Exodus 19

In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

بنی‌اسرائیل از رفیدیم حرکت کرده و در روز اول ماه سوم بعد از بیرون آمدن از مصر، به صحرای سینا رسیدند و در دامنهٔ کوه سینا اردو زدند.

For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

بنی‌اسرائیل از رفیدیم حرکت کرده و در روز اول ماه سوم بعد از بیرون آمدن از مصر، به صحرای سینا رسیدند و در دامنهٔ کوه سینا اردو زدند.

And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

موسی به بالای کوه رفت تا با خدا ملاقات كند. خداوند از میان کوه با موسی صحبت کرد و فرمود به ‌ بنی‌اسرائیل یعنی به فرزندان یعقوب بگو:

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

«شما دیدید که من، خداوند، با مصریان چه کردم و چطور مثل عقابی که جوجه‌های خود را روی بالهای خود می‌برد، شما را نزد خود آوردم.

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

حالا اگر شما از من اطاعت کنید و پیمان مرا نگاه دارید، شما قوم برگزیدهٔ من خواهید بود. زیرا تمام زمین از آن من است،

And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

ولی شما برای من امّت مقدّس و خادمان من خواهید بود.»

And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

موسی از کوه پایین رفت و تمام رهبران اسرائیل را جمع کرد و آنچه خداوند به او فرموده بود به ایشان گفت.

And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

تمام مردم یک صدا گفتند: «ما هرچه خداوند فرموده است انجام خواهیم داد» و موسی این را به خداوند عرض کرد.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

خداوند به موسی گفت: «من در ابر غلیظی به نزد تو خواهم آمد تا قوم سخن گفتن مرا با تو بشنوند و از آن به بعد تو را باور خواهند کرد.» موسی به خداوند گفت که مردم به او چه پاسخی داده‌اند.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,

خداوند فرمود: «به نزد مردم برو و به ایشان بگو كه امروز و فردا خود را برای پرستش پاک نمایند. آنها باید لباسهای خود را بشویند

And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

و در روز سوم حاضر باشند. من در آن روز در مقابل چشمان همه بر کوه سینا نازل می‌شوم.

And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

در اطراف کوه حدودی معیّن کن تا مردم از آن عبور نکنند. به ایشان بگو از کوه بالا نروند و حتّی به کوه نزدیک نشوند. اگر کسی یک قدم روی کوه بگذارد، کشته خواهد شد.

There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

آن شخص باید یا سنگسار شود و یا با تیر کشته شود و کسی نباید به او دست بزند. این دستور هم برای انسان است و هم برای حیوانات که باید کشته شوند. امّا وقتی شیپور زده شود، آنگاه همه باید بالای کوه بروند.»

And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

موسی از کوه پایین آمد و به مردم گفت که برای پرستش آماده شوند. پس آنها لباسهای خود را شستند.

And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

موسی به آنها گفت: «برای پس فردا آماده شوید و در این مدّت رابطهٔ جنسی نداشته باشید.»

And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

صبح روز سوم در کوه رعد و برق شد و ابر غلیظی روی کوه ظاهر گردید. سپس صدای شیپور بسیار بلندی شنیده شد، به طوری که تمام مردمی که در اردو‌‌گاه بودند از ترس لرزیدند.

And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

موسی قوم را از اردو‌‌گاه بیرون برد و برای ملاقات خدا در دامنهٔ کوه‌ ایستادند.

And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

تمام کوه سینا با دود پوشیده شده بود، زیرا خداوند در آتش بر روی کوه نزول فرموده بود و دود آن مثل دود کوره بالا می‌رفت و تمام کوه بشدّت می‌لرزید.

And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

صدای شیپور بلندتر و بلندتر شد. موسی صحبت کرد و خدا در رعد به او جواب داد.

And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

خداوند بر روی قلّهٔ کوه سینا نازل شد و از موسی خواست که به قلّهٔ کوه بیاید. موسی به قلّهٔ کوه رفت.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

خداوند به او فرمود: «پایین برو و به قوم بگو که مبادا از حدود معیّن شده عبور کنند تا مرا ببینند. اگر چنین کنند بسیاری از آنان کشته خواهند شد.

And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

حتّی کاهنانی هم که به من نزدیک می‌شوند باید خود را پاک نمایند. در غیر این صورت آنها را هم مجازات خواهم کرد.»

And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

موسی به خداوند عرض کرد: «مردم نمی‌توانند از کوه بالا بیایند زیرا تو به ما دستور داده‌ای که کوه را مقدّس شمرده، حدودی دور آن تعیین کنیم.»

And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

خداوند فرمود: «پایین برو و هارون را با خودت بیاور. امّا کاهنان و مردم نباید از حدود خود عبور کنند و نزد من بیایند، چون ایشان را مجازات می‌کنم.»

So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

موسی پایین رفت و آنچه خداوند فرموده بود، به مردم گفت.
