Deuteronomy 8

All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.

«تمام فرمانهایی را که امروز به شما داده‌ام، به دقّت انجام دهید تا زنده بمانید و زیاد شوید، و وارد زمینی که خداوند به نیاکان شما وعده داده بود، شوید و آن را تصرّف کنید.

And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

شما باید به یاد داشته باشید که خداوند چگونه شما را در این چهل سال در بیابان هدایت کرد تا شما را فروتن کند و شما را بیازماید تا بداند در قلب شما چیست، آیا فرمانهای او را بجا می‌آورید یا نه.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

او شما را فروتن کرد و گرسنه گذاشت و بعد شما را با مَنّا تغذیه کرد که نه شما می‌شناختید و نه نیاکانتان تا به شما بفهماند که زندگی انسان فقط بسته به نان نیست، بلکه به هر کلمه‌ای که خدا می‌فرماید.

Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

در این چهل سال لباسهای شما پاره نشد و پاهای شما متورّم نگشت.

Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

به یاد داشته باشید، همان‌طور که پدر، پسر خود را تأدیب می‌کند، خداوند خدایتان نیز شما را تأدیب می‌کند.

Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

پس شما باید از فرمانهای خداوند اطاعت کنید و در راه او قدم بردارید و از او بترسید.

For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;

زیرا خداوند شما را به سرزمین حاصلخیزی می‌برد که جویهای آب، چشمه‌ها و رودخانه‌ها از وادیها و کوههای آن جاری است

A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

سرزمینی که در آن گندم، جو، انگور، درختان انجیر، انار و زیتون، عسل

A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.

و خوراک به فراوانی یافت می‌شود و در آنجا به هیچ چیزی محتاج نخواهید بود. در آن سرزمین و کوههایش پُر از معادن آهن و مس می‌باشد.

When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.

در آنجا بخورید و سیر ‌شوید و خداوند خدایتان را به‌خاطر این سرزمین با برکتی که به شما بخشیده، شکر ‌کنید.

Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

«امّا احتیاط کنید که خداوند خدایتان را از یاد نبرید. احکام، قوانین و دستورات او را که امروز به شما ابلاغ می‌کنم، بجا آورید.

Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

در آنجا بخورید و سیر شوید و برای سکونت خود خانه‌های زیبا بسازید

And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;

و هنگامی‌که رمه، گلّه، نقره، طلا و دارایی‌تان افزایش یابد،

Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

نباید مغرور شوید و خداوند خدایتان را که شما را از اسارت و بردگی در مصر بیرون آورد، فراموش کنید.

Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

او شما را در بیابان بزرگ و وحشتناک و خشک و بی‌علف که پُر از مارهای سمی و کژدم بود، راهنمایی کرد. از دل سنگ خارا به شما آب داد.

Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

در آن بیابان شما را با مَنّا که اجدادتان آن را ندیده بودند، تغذیه کرد تا شما را فروتن سازد و بیازماید و در آخر به شما برکت بدهد.

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

هیچ‌گاه نگویید: 'ما با نیرو و قدرت خود این ثروت را به دست آورده‌‌ایم.'

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

خداوند خدایتان را همیشه به‌خاطر داشته باشید، زیرا اوست که به شما قدرت و ثروت عطا می‌کند تا وعد‌ه‌ای را که به نیاکانتان داده بود، انجام دهد.

And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

امّا اگر خداوند خدایتان را فراموش کنید و از خدایان دیگر پیروی کنید و آنها را بپرستید، من به شما اخطار می‌کنم که هلاکت شما حتمی است.

As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.

مانند اقوامی که خداوند پیش روی شما نابود کرد، شما نیز نابود خواهید شد؛ زیرا شما از صدای خداوند خدایتان پیروی نکردید.
