Acts 28

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

وقتی صحیح و سالم به ساحل رسیدیم، فهمیدیم كه نام آن جزیره مالت است.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

مردم آن جزیره به ما محبّت بسیار كردند و چون هوا سرد بود و باران می‌بارید آتش بزرگی افروختند و از ما پذیرایی كردند.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

پولس مقداری هیزم جمع كرده بود و وقتی آن را روی ‎آتش گذاشت به علّت حرارت آتش ماری از میان آن بیرون آمد و به دست او چسبید.

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

همین‌كه بومیان مار را به دست او آویزان دیدند، به یكدیگر گفتند: «این شخص حتماً قاتل است كه با وجود اینكه از دریا نجات پیدا كرد، الههٔ عدالت اجازه نمی‌دهد كه او زنده بماند.»

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

امّا پولس مار را روی آتش انداخت و اصلاً آسیبی ندید.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

آنان منتظر بودند كه هر لحظه بدنش ورم كند و یا ناگهان نقش زمین گردد. امّا وقتی مدّت زیادی منتظر ماندند و دیدند كه هیچ آسیبی به او نرسیده است، عقیده آنها عوض شد و گفتند كه او یكی از خدایان است.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

در نزدیكی‌های آن محل املاكی وجود داشت كه متعلّق به پوبلیوس، حاكم آن جزیره بود. این شخص ما را به خانه برد و مدّت سه روز با كمال مهربانی از ما پذیرایی كرد.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

از قضا پدر پوبلیوس بستری و مبتلا به تب نوبه و اسهال خونی بود. پولس به بالین او رفت و پس از دعا بر او دست گذاشت و او را شفا داد.

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

پس از این جریان سایر بیماران آن جزیره هم آمدند و شفا یافتند.

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

آنان در مقابل، هدایای فراوانی به ما دادند و وقتی خواستیم آنجا را ترک كنیم چیزهایی كه در سفر مورد احتیاج ما بود برای ما به كشتی آوردند.

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

پس از سه ماه اقامت در آن جزیره با یک كشتی اسكندریه‌‌ای، كه علامت دو پیكر جوزا داشت و زمستان را در آنجا توقّف كرده بود، به راه افتادیم.

And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

در شهر سراكیوس لنگر انداختیم و سه روز در آنجا توقّف نمودیم.

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

بار دیگر با كشتی از آنجا حركت كرده به ریغیون رفتیم. بعد از یک روز باد جنوبی برخاست و دو روز طول كشید كه به بندر پوطیولی رسیدیم.

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

در آنجا ایماندارن را پیدا كردیم و به دعوت آنان مدّت یک هفته در آنجا ماندیم و به این ترتیب به روم رسیدیم.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

مسیحیان آن شهر وقتی شنیدند كه ما در راه هستیم تا بازار آپیاس و دهکده‌ای به نام «سه میخانه» به استقبال ما آمدند و چون پولس آنان را دید، خدا را شكر نموده و دلگرم شد.

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

وقتی به روم رسیدیم، پولس اجازه یافت كه با یک نگهبان رومی در خانه‌ای جداگانه زندگی كند.

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

بعد از سه روز پولس رهبران یهودیان آنجا را دعوت كرد و وقتی آنها جمع شدند به ایشان گفت: «ای برادران، من كه هرگز عملی علیه ملّت و یا آیین نیاکانمان انجام نداده‌‌ام، در اورشلیم دستگیر و تسلیم رومیان شدم.

Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

رومیان از من بازپرسی نمودند و می‌خواستند مرا آزاد سازند زیرا پی بردند كه من هیچ كاری نکرده‌ام كه مستوجب مرگ باشم.

But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

امّا یهودیان مخالفت كردند و من هیچ راهی نداشتم جز اینكه از امپراتور دادخواهی نمایم، البتّه من هیچ شكایتی هم علیه ملّت خود ندارم.

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

به این سبب از شما دعوت كردم تا شما را ببینم و با شما گفت‌وگو كنم. زیرا من به‌خاطر همان امیدی كه اسرائیل دارد، به طوری‌ كه می‌‌بینید، گرفتار زنجیرم.»

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

به او گفتند: «هیچ نامه‌ای دربارهٔ تو از یهودیه به ما نرسیده است و از برادران ما هم كسی به اینجا نیامده است كه دربارهٔ تو گزارشی داده باشد و یا سخن بدی به زیان آورده باشد.

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

امّا ما مایل هستیم عقاید و نظرات تو را از زبان خودت بشنویم. آنچه ما دربارهٔ این فرقهٔ جدید می‌دانیم آن است كه همه از آن ایراد می‌گیرند.»

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

پس روزی را تعیین كردند و عدّهٔ زیادی برای دیدن او به منزلش آمدند. او به تفصیل از صبح تا شب دربارهٔ پادشاهی خدا برای آنها سخن گفت و كوشید با مراجعه به تورات موسی و نوشته‌های انبیا آنان را نسبت به عیسی متقاعد سازد.

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

بعضی از آنها سخنان او را قبول كرده ایمان آوردند، ولی دیگران در بی‌ایمانی خود باقی ماندند.

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

آنها بدون آنكه بین خودشان توافقی حاصل شود متفرق گشتند. امّا قبل از رفتن آنها پولس اظهار داشت: «روح‌القدس به وسیلهٔ اشعیای نبی به نیاکان شما چه خوب گفته است:

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

'پیش این قوم برو و به آنها بگو: بسیار خواهید شنید ولی درک نخواهید كرد و پیوسته خواهید نگریست ولی نخواهید دید،

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

زیرا دلهای این قوم سخت و گوشهایشان سنگین و چشمانشان بسته شده است مبادا با چشم خود ببینند و با گوش خود بشنوند و با قلب خود بفهمند و برگردند و من آنان را شفا بخشم.'

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

«پس بدانید كه این نجات الهی در اختیار غیر یهودیان گذاشته شده است و آنها آن را خواهند پذیرفت.» [

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

چون پولس این سخنان را گفت، یهودیان رفتند و با یكدیگر بشدّت مباحثه می‌کردند.]

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

پولس دو سال تمام در منزل اجاره‌ای خود زندگی كرد و در خانه‌اش به روی همه باز بود.

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

او پادشاهی خدا را اعلام می‌کرد و دربارهٔ عیسی مسیح خداوند بسیار صریح و بدون هیچ مانعی تعلیم می‌داد.
