I Timothy 1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

از طرف پولس كه به فرمان نجات‌دهندهٔ ما خدا و به دستور مسیح عیسی -‌امید ما- رسول مسیح عیسی است،

Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

به تیموتاؤس، فرزند حقیقی خودم در ایمان تقدیم می‌گردد. خدای پدر و خداوند ما مسیح عیسی، فیض و رحمت و آرامش به تو عطا فرمایند.

As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

همچنان‌که در سر راه خود به مقدونیه به تو اصرار كردم، باز هم از تو می‌خواهم كه در افسس بمانی. در آنجا بعضی اشخاص تعالیم نادرست می‌دهند و تو باید به آنها دستور دهی كه از این كار دست بردارند.

Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

به آنها بگو كه خود را با افسانه‌ها و شجره‌نامه‌های بی‌پایانی كه انسان را به مجادله می‌كشند، سرگرم نسازند. اینها به پیشرفت نقشهٔ خدا كه از راه ایمان شناخته می‌شود، كمكی نمی‌کنند.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

هدف تعلیم ما، برانگیختن محبتّی است كه از دل پاک و وجدان روشن و ایمان خالص پدید می‌آید.

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

بعضی افراد از این چیزها روی گردانیده و در مباحثات احمقانه راهشان را گُم کرده‌اند.

Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

آنها مایلند معلّمان شریعت باشند، بدون آنكه بفهمند چه می‌گویند و یا دربارهٔ چه چیز این‌طور با اطمینان سخن می‌گویند.

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

ما می‌دانیم شریعت وقتی نیكوست كه به طرز صحیحی از آن استفاده شود.

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

البتّه باید دانست كه قوانین برای نیكان وضع نشده، بلكه برای افراد متمرّد و سركش، برای خدا ناشناسان، گناهكاران، كافران، بی‌دینان، قاتلان پدر و مادر، آدمكشان،

For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

زشتكاران، لواط‌گران، آدم دزدان، دروغگویان و اشخاصی كه شهادت دروغ می‌دهند و هر کار دیگری كه برخلاف تعلیم درست باشد را انجام می‌دهند.

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

آن تعلیمی كه در انجیل یافت می‌شود، یعنی مژده‌ای از جانب خدای پرجلال و متبارک كه به من سپرده شده است تا آن را اعلام كنم.

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

از مسیح عیسی، خداوند ما كه نیروی این كار را به من داده است، تشكّر می‌كنم. زیرا او مرا قابل اعتماد دانست و برای خدمت خود برگزید.

Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

اگرچه در گذشته به او دشنام می‌دادم، جفا می‌رسانیدم و اهانت می‌کردم، امّا خدا به من رحم كرد زیرا من بی‌ایمان بودم و نمی‌‌‌دانستم چه می‌كردم.

And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

و خداوند فیض سرشار خود را بر من جاری ساخت و آن ایمان و محبتّی را به من عطا نمود كه در اتّحاد با مسیح نصیب ما می‌گردد.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

این سخن درست است و کاملاً قابل قبول كه مسیح عیسی به جهان آمد تا گناهكاران را نجات بخشد. گناهكاری بزرگتر از من هم نیست!

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

امّا به این دلیل رحمت یافتم تا عیسی مسیح در رفتار خود با من كه بزرگترین گناهكارانم، كمال بردباری خود را نشان دهد و من نمونه‌ای باشم برای همهٔ کسانی‌که بعدها به او ایمان آورده، حیات جاودانی خواهند یافت.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

به پادشاه جاودانی و فناناپذیر و نادیدنی، خدای یكتا تا به ابد عزّت و جلال باد، آمین.

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

ای تیموتاؤس، فرزند من، همان‌طور كه مدّتها پیش دربارهٔ تو نبوّت شد، این فرمان را به تو می‌سپارم و امیدوارم آن سخنان، مانند سلاحی در این جنگ نیكو تو را یاری دهد،

Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

و ایمان و وجدان پاک خود را نگه‌دار. كشتی ایمان بعضی‌ها به علّت گوش ‌ندادن به ندای وجدان درهم شكسته است.

Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

از آن جمله «هیمینائوس» و «اسكندر» می‌باشند كه آنها را به شیطان سپردم تا یاد بگیرند كه دیگر كفر نگویند.
