I Chronicles 17

Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

روزی داوود در کاخ خود نشسته بود و به ناتان نبی گفت: «ببین، من در این قصری که از چوب سرو ساخته شده است زندگی می‌کنم، امّا صندوقچه پیمان خداوند در زیر خیمه قرار دارد.»

Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

ناتان در جواب او گفت: «اختیار به دست خودت است، هرچه می‌خواهی بکن، زیرا خداوند همراهت توست.»

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

امّا در همان شب خداوند، به ناتان فرمود:

Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

«برو به داوود بگو که خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: 'معبدی برای سکونت من نساز،

For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

زیرا از روزی ‌‌که مردم اسرائیل را از کشور مصر رهایی دادم تا به امروز در معبدی ساکن نبوده‌ام، همیشه در خیمه‌ها زندگی کرده و از جایی به جایی دیگر نقل مکان کرده‌ام.

Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

در همهٔ سفرها با قوم اسرائیل رفته‌ام، امّا به هیچ‌یک از رهبرانشان که من آنها را برای رهبریشان تعیین نمودم، شکایت نکرده‌ام که چرا معبدی از چوب سرو برای من نساخته‌اند.'

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

«حال به بنده‌ام داوود بگو که خداوند متعال می‌فرماید: 'من تو را که چوپان ساده‌ای بیش نبودی آوردم و به عنوان پادشاه قوم خود، اسرائیل انتخاب کردم.

And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

به هر جایی که رفتی با تو بودم. همهٔ دشمنانت را از سر راهت از بین بردم. حالا نام تو را مثل نام بزرگترین شخصیّت‌های جهان می‌سازم.

Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

برای قوم خود، اسرائیل جا‌یی را تعیین می‌کنم که وطن و مِلک همیشگی‌ ایشان باشد و هیچ‌کسی نتواند آرامی آنها را برهم بزند. به مردمان بدخواه اجازه نمی‌دهم که آنها را مثل داورانی که من برایشان تعیین کردم، خوار و حقیر سازند. دشمنانت را مغلوب تو می‌کنم و وعده می‌دهم که به تو فرزندان فراوان ببخشم.

And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.

برای قوم خود، اسرائیل جا‌یی را تعیین می‌کنم که وطن و مِلک همیشگی‌ ایشان باشد و هیچ‌کسی نتواند آرامی آنها را برهم بزند. به مردمان بدخواه اجازه نمی‌دهم که آنها را مثل داورانی که من برایشان تعیین کردم، خوار و حقیر سازند. دشمنانت را مغلوب تو می‌کنم و وعده می‌دهم که به تو فرزندان فراوان ببخشم.

And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

و وقتی‌که عمرت به سر برسد و به نیاکانت بپیوندی، یکی از فرزندانت را پادشاه می‌سازم و سلطنت او را برقرار می‌کنم.

He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

او برای من معبدی بنا می‌کند و من تاج و تخت او را استوار و ابدی می‌سازم.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

من پدر او و او پسر من خواهد بود. محبّت پایدار و شفقّت خود را از او دریغ نمی‌کنم، طوری که از شائول دریغ کردم و او را از پادشاهی خلع نمودم.

But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

زمام اختیار مردم و سلطنت خود را به دست او می‌دهم و پادشاهی او ابدی و جاودانی می‌باشد.'»

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

ناتان همهٔ آنچه را که خداوند در رؤیا به او فرموده بود برای داوود بیان کرد.

And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

بعد داوود به داخل خیمهٔ مقدّس رفت و به حضور خداوند نشست و گفت: «ای خداوند خدای من، من کیستم و فامیل من چیست که مرا به این مقام رساندی؟

And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

من ارزش این چیزهای فوق‌العاده را که تا به حال در حق من کردی ندارم، امّا تو باز هم وعده‌های عالی‌تر آینده را به من دادی که خانواده و فرزندان من هم شامل آن وعده‌‌ها می‌باشند. ای خداوند خدای من!

What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

زیادتر از این چه می‌توانم بگویم؟ این بنده‌ات چه کسی است که تو او را به چنین افتخاراتی نایل ساختی؟

O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

ای خداوند خدای من تو به رضا و میل خود این وعده‌های عالی را به من دادی.

O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

ای خداوند، تو شریک و همتایی نداری. ما می‌دانیم و به گوش خود شنیده‌ایم که به غیراز ذات پاک تو خدای دیگری وجود ندارد.

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

هیچ قوم دیگری به پای قوم اسرائیل نمی‌رسد و یگانه قومی است که تو از کشور مصر نجات دادی و برای خود برگزیدی. با معجزات حیرت‌انگیز، نام خود را بزرگ و مشهور ساختی. و به‌خاطر اینکه راه را برای خروج قوم اسرائیل از کشور مصر هموار سازی اقوام زیادی را از بین بردی.

For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

و قوم اسرائیل را برای همیشه از آن خود ساختی و تو ای خداوند خدایشان شدی.

Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

«حالا ای خداوند، آن وعده‌هایی که به بنده‌ات و به خانواده‌اش دادی استوار و ابدی باقی بمانند و همگی عملی گردند؛

Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

تا نام مقدّس تو مشهور شود و جلال و عظمت ابدی یابد و همه بگویند: 'خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، واقعاً خدای اسرائیل است'، و خانوادهٔ بنده‌ات همیشه فرمانروای قوم اسرائیل باشد،

For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

زیرا تو ای خدای من، به وضوح به من فرمودی که سلسلهٔ مرا پادشاه می‌سازی، بنابراین به بنده‌ات جرأت بخشیدی که برای عرض دعا به دربارت رو کند.

And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

حالا ای خداوند، تو خدا هستی و تو این وعده را به بنده‌ات دادی.

Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.

پس می‌خواهم که به رضای خود، خانوادهٔ این بنده‌ات را برکت بدهی و این برکت تو جاودانی باشد تا تو ای خداوند، آنها را برکت داده‌ای و برکت تو تا ابد با آنها خواهد بود.»
