Ja tapahtui Josuan kuoleman jälkeen, että Israelin lapset kysyivät Herralta, sanoen: kuka meistä ensisti menee sotaan ylös Kanaanealaisia vastaan?

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

Ja Herra sanoi: Juudan pitää menemän: katso, minä annoin maan hänen käsiinsä.

And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

Niin sanoi Juuda veljellensä Simeonille: käy minun kanssani minun arpaani, sotimaan Kanaanealaisia vastaan, niin minä myös menen sinun arpaas sinun kanssas; ja Simeon meni hänen kanssansa.

And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

Kuin Juuda meni sinne ylös, antoi Herra hänelle Kanaanealaiset ja Pheresiläiset heidän käsiinsä; ja he löivät Besekissä kymmenentuhatta miestä.

And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

Ja he löysivät AdoniBesekin Besekistä, ja sotivat heitä vastaan ja löivät Kanaanealaiset ja Pheresiläiset.

And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Mutta AdoniBesek pakeni, ja he ajoivat häntä takaa, saivat hänen kiinni ja leikkasivat häneltä peukalot käsistä ja isot varpaat jaloista.

But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

Niin sanoi AdoniBesek: seitsemänkymmentä kuningasta, leikatuilla peukaloilla heidän käsistänsä ja jaloistansa, hakivat minun pöytäni alla; niinkuin minä tein, niin on Jumala minulle maksanut. Ja he veivät hänen Jerusalemiin, ja siellä hän kuoli.

And Adoni–bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Mutta Juudan lapset sotivat Jerusalemia vastaan, ja voittivat sen, ja löivät sen miekan terällä, ja polttivat kaupungin.

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

Sitte matkustivat Juudan lapset alas sotimaan Kanaanealaisia vastaan, jotka vuorella asuivat etelään päin laaksoissa.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

Meni myös Juuda Kanaanealaisia vastaan, jotka Hebronissa asuivat (mutta Hebron kutsuttiin muinen KirjatArba), ja löivät Sesain, Ahimanin ja Talmain;

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

Ja meni sieltä Debirin asuvia vastaan (mutta Debir kutsuttiin muinen KirjatSepher).

And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath–sepher:

Ja Kaleb sanoi: joka KirjatSepherin lyö ja sen voittaa, hänelle annan minä tyttäreni Aksan emännäksi.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath–sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

Niin voitti sen Otniel Kenaksen, Kalebin nuoremman veljen poika, ja hän antoi tyttärensä Aksan hänelle emännäksi.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

Ja tapahtui, kuin Aksa tuli, että hän neuvoi miestänsä anomaan peltoa isältä; ja hän astui aasinsa päältä alas, niin sanoi Kaleb hänelle: mikä sinun on?

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

Hän sanoi hänelle: anna minulle siunaus; sillä sinä annoit minulle kuivan maan , anna myös minulle vesinen maa. Niin antoi Kaleb hänelle vesiset maat ylhäältä ja alhaalta.

And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

Ja Moseksen apen Keniläisen lapset menivät Palmukaupungista Juudan lasten kanssa Juudan korpeen, etelään päin Aradia; ja he menivät ja asuivat kansan seassa.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

Ja Juuda meni veljensä Simeonin kanssa, ja he löivät Kanaanealaiset jotka Sephatissa asuivat, ja hävittivät sen, ja kutsuivat kaupungin Horma.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

Sitälikin voitti Juuda Gasan rajoinensa, ja Askalonin rajoinensa, ja Ekronin rajoinensa.

Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

Ja Herra oli Juudan kanssa, niin että hän omisti vuoret; sillä ei hän voinut niitä ajaa ulos, jotka laaksoissa asuivat, sillä heillä oli rautaiset vaunut.

And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

Ja he antoivat Kalebille Hebronin, niinkuin Moses sanonut oli, ja hän ajoi siitä ulos kolme Enakin poikaa.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

Mutta BenJaminin lapset ei ajaneet Jebusilaisia pois, jotka asuivat Jerusalemissa; ja Jebusilaiset asuivat BenJaminin lasten tykönä Jerusalemissa tähän päivään asti.

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

Meni myös Josephin huone ylös BetEliin, ja Herra oli heidän kanssansa.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the LORD was with them.

Ja Josephin huone vakosi BetEliä (joka muinen kutsuttiin Luts).

And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth–el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

Ja vartiat saivat nähdä miehen käyvän kaupungista, ja sanoivat hänelle: osoita meille, kusta kaupungin sisälle mennään, niin me teemme laupiuden sinun kanssas.

And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

Ja hän osoitti heille kaupungin sisällekäytävän, ja he löivät kaupungin miekan terällä; mutta sen miehen ja kaiken hänen sukunsa laskivat he menemään.

And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

Niin meni se mies Hetiläisten maakuntaan ja rakensi kaupungin, ja kutsui hänen Luts, joka tähän päivään asti niin kutsutaan.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

Ja ei Manasse ajanut ulos Betseania tyttärinensä, eikä myös Taanakia tyttärinensä, eikä Dorin asuvaisia tyttärinensä, eikä Jibleamin asuvia tyttärinensä, eikä Megiddon asuvia tyttärinensä. Ja Kanaanealaiset rupesivat asumaan siinä maassa.

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Ja kuin Israel voimalliseksi tuli, teki hän Kanaanealaiset verolliseksi ja ei ajanut heitä ollenkaan ulos.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

Eikä myös Ephraim ajanut ulos Kanaanealaisia, jotka asuivat Gatserissa; mutta Kanaanealaiset asuivat heidän seassansa Gatserissa.

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

Eikä myös Zebulon ajanut Kitronin ja Nahalolin asuvaisia ulos; vaan Kanaanealaiset asuivat heidän keskellänsä ja olivat verolliset.

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

Eikä myös Asser ajanut niitä ulos, jotka asuivat Akkossa, eikä niitä, jotka asuivat Zidonissa, Akelabissa, Aksibissa, Helbassa, Aphikissa ja Rehobissa.

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

Mutta Asserilaiset asuivat Kanaanealaisten seassa, jotka siinä maassa asuivat: ettei he niitä ajaneet ulos.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

Eikä myös Naphtali ajanut niitä ulos, jotka asuivat BetSemessä ja BetAnatissa, mutta asuivat Kanaanealaisten seassa, jotka maan asuvaiset olivat; mutta ne, jotka BetSemessä ja BetAnatissa olivat, tulivat heille verollisiksi.

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributaries unto them.

Ja Amorilaiset ahdistivat Danin lapsia vuorilla eikä sallineet heitä tulemaan laaksoon.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

Mutta Amorilaiset rupesivat asumaan vuorilla, Hereessä, Ajalonissa ja Saalbimissa; niin tuli Josephin käsi heille raskaaksi, ja he tulivat verollisiksi.

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

Ja Amorilaisten rajat olivat siitä, kuin käydään ylös Akrabimiin, kalliosta ja ylhäältä.

And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
