Hosea 12

کارهای مردم اسرائیل از صبحگاه تا شامگاه بیهوده و ویرانگر است. خیانت و خشونت در میان ایشان فزونی خواهد یافت. ایشان با آشور پیمان می‌بندند و با مصر بازرگانی می‌کنند.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

خداوند از یهودا شکایت دارد و اسرائیل را به سزای کارهایشان می‌رساند و مطابق کارهایی که کرده است، او را جزا می‌دهد.

The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

در رحم مادر با حیله جای برادر خود را گرفت و وقتی بزرگ شد با خدا مبارزه کرد.

He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

با فرشته دست و پنجه نرم کرد و پیروز شد. بعد با گریه و زاری از فرشته خواست که برکتش بدهد. در بیت‌ئیل خدا را دید و در آنجا با او صحبت کرد

Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth–el, and there he spake with us;

با همان خداوند، خدای متعال که نامش معروف و مشهور است.

Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

پس ای اسرائیل، به سوی خدای خود بازگرد. با دوستی و عدالت زندگی کن و با صبر و بردباری همیشه منتظر خدا باش.

Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

خداوند می‌فرماید: «مردم اسرائیل به فروشنده‌ای می‌مانند که با ترازوی تقلّبی معامله می‌کند و به فریب و حیله علاقه دارد.

He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

افرایم با غرور می‌گوید: 'من ثروتمند هستم و همهٔ این دارایی و ثروت را خودم به دست آورده‌ام و در کسب و کار خود خیانت نکرده‌ام و گناهی ندارم.'

And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

امّا من خداوند، خدای تو هستم که تو را از مصر بیرون آوردم، تو را دوباره می‌فرستم تا مانند دورانی که در بیابان و در زمان عید فصح به سر می‌بردی، در چادر‌ها زندگی کنی.

And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

«من با انبیا صحبت کردم، آنها را با رؤیاها و مَثَلهای زیاد پیش شما فرستادم تا شما را از ارادهٔ من آگاه سازند.

I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

امّا بازهم در جلعاد دست از گناه و خطا نکشیدید و در جلجال برای بُتها قربانی کردید و قربانگاههایتان هنوز هم مثل توده‌های سنگ در همه‌جا و حتّی در کشتزارها دیده می‌شوند.»

Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

جدشان یعقوب به سرزمین سوریه فرار کرد و در آنجا با کار چوپانی برای خود زن گرفت.

And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

خداوند نبی‌ای را فرستاد تا اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون بیاورد و از او مراقبت کند.

And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

امّا حالا افرایم خداوند را بشدّت خشمگین ساخته است، بنابراین خداوند او را به‌خاطر جنایتی که مرتکب شده است محکوم به مرگ می‌کند.

Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
