I Timothy 4

روح‌القدس صریحاً می‌فرماید كه در زمانهای آخر، بعضی‌ها از ایمان دست خواهند كشید و از ارواح گمراه كننده و تعالیم شیاطین پیروی خواهند کرد.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

از تعالیم ریاكارانهٔ دروغ‌گویان استفاده كرده و وجدانشان طوری بی‌حس خواهد گردید كه گویی با آهنی داغ سوخته شده است.

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

ازدواج را ممنوع نموده و خوردن بعضی از غذاهایی را قدغن می‌کنند كه خدا آفریده است، تا ایماندارانی كه حقیقت را می‌دانند با شكرگزاری از آن غذاها استفاده كنند.

Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

درصورتی كه همهٔ چیزهایی كه خدا آفریده است نیكوست و نباید چیزی را كه با شكرگزاری پذیرفته می‌شود، ناپاک شمرد.

For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

زیرا به وسیلهٔ كلام خدا و دعا پاک می‌گردد.

For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

اگر این دستورها را به ایمانداران یادآور شوی، خادم نیكوی مسیح عیسی خواهی بود كه در حقایق ایمان و تعالیم نیكویی كه دنبال کرده‌ای، پرورش خواهی یافت.

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

امّا با افسانه‌های كفرآمیز كه ارزش بازگو كردن ندارد، كاری نداشته باش. اگر می‌خواهید ورزش كنید، خود را در خدا‌پرستی تقویت كنید.

But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

زیرا اگرچه ورزش در بعضی موارد برای بدن مفید است، خداپرستی از هر حیث فایده دارد، چون هم برای حال و هم برای آینده وعدهٔ حیات دارد.

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

این سخن درست و کاملاً قابل قبول است.

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

بنابراین ما تقلّا و كوشش می‌کنیم زیرا به خدای زنده كه نجات‌دهندهٔ همهٔ آدمیان و مخصوصاً ایمانداران است توکّل داریم.

For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

این است آنچه تو باید به آنها دستور و تعلیم دهی:

These things command and teach.

هیچ‌کس جوانی تو را حقیر نشمارد، بلكه در گفتار و كردار، در محبّت و ایمان و پاكی برای ایمانداران نمونه باش

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

و تا موقع آمدن من، وقت خود را صرف موعظه و تعلیم و قرائت كلام خدا برای عموم بنما.

Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

نسبت به عطیهٔ روحانی خود بی‌توجّه نباش، عطیه‌ای كه در وقت دستگذاری تو به وسیلهٔ رهبران كلیسا همراه با نبوّت آنها به تو داده شد.

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

این چیزها را به عمل‌آور و خود را وقف آنها بساز تا پیشرفت تو برای همه معلوم گردد.

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

مراقب خود و تعالیمت باش و در انجام این كارها همیشه كوشش كن چون به این وسیله هم خود و هم آنانی را كه به تو گوش می‌دهند، نجات خواهی داد.

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
