Nuže nyní, boháči, plačte, kvílíce nad bídami svými, kteréž přijdou.

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Zboží vaše shnilo a roucho vaše zmolovatělo.

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

Zlato vaše a stříbro zerzavělo, a rez jejich bude na svědectví proti vám, a zžířeť těla vaše jako oheň. Shromáždili jste poklad ku posledním dnům.

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Aj, mzda dělníků, kteříž žali krajiny vaše, při vás zadržaná, křičí, a hlas volání ženců v uši Pána zástupů vešel.

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Rozkoš jste provodili na zemi a zbujněli jste; vykrmili jste srdce vaše jakožto ke dni zabití.

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

Odsoudili jste a zamordovali spravedlivého, a neodpíral vám.

Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

A protož trpěliví buďte, bratří, až do příchodu Páně. Aj, oráč očekává drahého užitku zemského, trpělivě naň očekávaje, až by přijal podzimní i jarní déšť.

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Buďtež i vy trpěliví a potvrzujte srdcí vašich; neboť se přibližuje příští Páně.

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Nevzdychejtež k Bohu jedni proti druhým, bratří, abyste nebyli odsouzeni. Aj, Soudce již přede dveřmi stojí.

Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

Ku příkladu snášení protivenství a dlouhočekání, bratří moji, vezměte proroky, kteříž mluvívali ve jménu Páně.

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Aj, blahoslavíme ty trpělivé. O trpělivosti Jobově slýchali jste, a dokonání Páně viděli jste; nebo velmi jest milosrdný Pán a lítostivý.

Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Přede všemi pak věcmi, bratří moji, nepřisahejte, ani skrze nebe, ani skrze zemi, ani kteroukoli jinou přísahou, ale buď řeč vaše: Jistě, jistě, nikoli, nikoli, abyste neupadli v odsouzení.

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Jest-li kdo z vás zkormoucený? Modliž se. Pakli jest kdo mysli dobré? Prozpěvuj Pánu.

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Stůně-li kdo z vás? Zavolej starších sboru, a oni modltež se za něj, mažíce jej olejem ve jménu Páně.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

A modlitba víry uzdraví neduživého, a pozdvihneť ho Pán; a jestliže jest co prohřešil, budeť jemu odpuštěno.

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Vyznávejtež se pak jedni druhým z hříchů svých, a modlte se jedni za druhé, abyste uzdraveni byli. Mnohoť zajisté může modlitba spravedlivého opravdová.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Eliáš člověk byl týmž bídám jako i my poddaný, a modlitbou modlil se, aby nepršelo, i nepršel déšť na zemi za tři léta a za šest měsíců.

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

A zase modlil se, i vydalo nebe déšť, a země zplodila ovoce své.

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Bratří, jestliže by kdo z vás pobloudil od pravdy, a někdo by jej napravil,

Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

Věziž, že ten, kdož by odvrátil hříšníka od bludné cesty jeho, vysvobodí duši jeho od smrti a přikryje množství hříchů.

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
