Ecclesiastes 1

Думите на проповедника, сина на Давид, цар в Ерусалим:

The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

Суета на суетите! — казва проповедникът. — Суета на суетите, всичко е суета.

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

Каква полза има човек от целия си труд, в който се труди под слънцето?

What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

Едно поколение преминава и друго поколение идва, а земята вечно стои.

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

И слънцето изгрява и слънцето залязва, и бърза към мястото, където е изгряло.

The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

Вятърът отива на юг и се обръща на север, непрестанно се върти и отива, и в кръгообразните си пътища се връща вятърът.

The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

Всички реки отиват в морето, а морето не се напълва. На мястото, където реките отиват, там те се връщат да отидат отново.

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

Всички думи са трудни, нищо не може да каже човек. Окото не се насища с гледане и ухото не се напълва със слушане.

All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

Каквото е било, това и ще бъде и каквото е извършено, това и ще се извърши; и няма нищо ново пред слънцето.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Има ли нещо, за което да се каже: Виж, това е ново? То вече е било в древни времена преди нас.

Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Няма спомен за предишните; и за следващите, които ще бъдат, няма да има спомен между онези, които ще бъдат после.

There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Аз, проповедникът, бях цар над Израил в Ерусалим.

I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

И предадох сърцето си да издиря и да изследвам чрез мъдрост всичко, което се върши под небето. Тежка работа е дал Бог на човешките синове, за да се трудят в нея.

And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.

Видях всичките дела, които се вършат под слънцето, и ето, всичко е суета и гонене на вятър.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Кривото не може да се изправи и липсващото не може да се брои.

That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

Аз говорих в сърцето си и казах: Ето, увеличих и умножих мъдрост повече от всички, които са били преди мен в Ерусалим, и сърцето ми видя изобилие от мъдрост и знание.

I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

И предадох сърцето си, за да позная мъдрост и да позная лудост и безумие. Разбрах, че и това е гонене на вятър.

And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

Защото в многото мъдрост има много тъга, и който умножава знание, умножава печал.

For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
