Jeremiah 18

رب یرمیاہ سے ہم کلام ہوا،

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

”اُٹھ اور کمہار کے گھر میں جا! وہاں مَیں تجھ سے ہم کلام ہوں گا۔“

Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

چنانچہ مَیں کمہار کے گھر میں پہنچ گیا۔ اُس وقت وہ چاک پر کام کر رہا تھا۔

Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

لیکن مٹی کا جو برتن وہ اپنے ہاتھوں سے تشکیل دے رہا تھا وہ خراب ہو گیا۔ یہ دیکھ کر کمہار نے اُسی مٹی سے نیا برتن بنا دیا جو اُسے زیادہ پسند تھا۔

And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

تب رب مجھ سے ہم کلام ہوا،

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

”اے اسرائیل، کیا مَیں تمہارے ساتھ ویسا سلوک نہیں کر سکتا جیسا کمہار اپنے برتن سے کرتا ہے؟ جس طرح مٹی کمہار کے ہاتھ میں تشکیل پاتی ہے اُسی طرح تم میرے ہاتھ میں تشکیل پاتے ہو۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

”کبھی مَیں اعلان کرتا ہوں کہ کسی قوم یا سلطنت کو جڑ سے اُکھاڑ دوں گا، اُسے گرا کر تباہ کر دوں گا۔

At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

لیکن کئی بار یہ قوم اپنی غلط راہ کو ترک کر دیتی ہے۔ اِس صورت میں مَیں پچھتا کر اُس پر وہ آفت نہیں لاتا جو مَیں نے لانے کو کہا تھا۔

If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

کبھی مَیں کسی قوم یا سلطنت کو پنیری کی طرح لگانے اور تعمیر کرنے کا اعلان بھی کرتا ہوں۔

And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

لیکن افسوس، کئی دفعہ یہ قوم میری نہیں سنتی بلکہ ایسا کام کرنے لگتی ہے جو مجھے ناپسند ہے۔ اِس صورت میں مَیں پچھتا کر اُس پر وہ مہربانی نہیں کرتا جس کا اعلان مَیں نے کیا تھا۔

If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

اب یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے باشندوں سے مخاطب ہو کر کہہ، ’رب فرماتا ہے کہ مَیں تم پر آفت لانے کی تیاریاں کر رہا ہوں، مَیں نے تمہارے خلاف منصوبہ باندھ لیا ہے۔ چنانچہ ہر ایک اپنی غلط راہ سے ہٹ کر واپس آئے، ہر ایک اپنا چال چلن اور اپنا رویہ درست کرے۔‘

Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

لیکن افسوس، یہ اعتراض کریں گے، ’دفع کرو! ہم اپنے ہی منصوبے جاری رکھیں گے۔ ہر ایک اپنے شریر دل کی ضد کے مطابق ہی زندگی گزارے گا‘۔“

And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

اِس لئے رب فرماتا ہے، ”دیگر اقوام سے دریافت کرو کہ اُن میں کبھی ایسی بات سننے میں آئی ہے۔ کنواری اسرائیل سے نہایت گھنونا جرم ہوا ہے!

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

کیا لبنان کی پتھریلی چوٹیوں کی برف کبھی پگھل کر ختم ہو جاتی ہے؟ کیا دُوردراز چشموں سے بہنے والا برفیلا پانی کبھی تھم جاتا ہے؟

Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?

لیکن میری قوم مجھے بھول گئی ہے۔ یہ لوگ باطل بُتوں کے سامنے بخور جلاتے ہیں، اُن چیزوں کے سامنے جن کے باعث وہ ٹھوکر کھا کر قدیم راہوں سے ہٹ گئے ہیں اور اب کچے راستوں پر چل رہے ہیں۔

Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;

اِس لئے اُن کا ملک ویران ہو جائے گا، ایک ایسی جگہ جسے دوسرے اپنے مذاق کا نشانہ بنائیں گے۔ جو بھی گزرے اُس کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جائیں گے، وہ افسوس سے اپنا سر ہلائے گا۔

To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.

دشمن آئے گا تو مَیں اپنی قوم کو اُس کے آگے آگے منتشر کروں گا۔ جس طرح گرد مشرقی ہَوا کے تیز جھونکوں سے اُڑ کر بکھر جاتی ہے اُسی طرح وہ تتر بتر ہو جائیں گے۔ جب آفت اُن پر نازل ہو گی تو مَیں اُن کی طرف رجوع نہیں کروں گا بلکہ اپنا منہ اُن سے پھیر لوں گا۔“ یرمیاہ کے خلاف سازش

I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

یہ سن کر لوگ آپس میں کہنے لگے، ”آؤ، ہم یرمیاہ کے خلاف منصوبے باندھیں، کیونکہ اُس کی باتیں صحیح نہیں ہیں۔ نہ امام شریعت کی ہدایت سے، نہ دانش مند اچھے مشوروں سے، اور نہ نبی اللہ کے کلام سے محروم ہو جائے گا۔ آؤ، ہم زبانی اُس پر حملہ کریں اور اُس کی باتوں پر دھیان نہ دیں، خواہ وہ کچھ بھی کیوں نہ کہے۔“

Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

اے رب، مجھ پر توجہ دے اور اُس پر غور کر جو میرے مخالف کہہ رہے ہیں۔

Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.

کیا انسان کو نیک کام کے بدلے میں بُرا کام کرنا چاہئے؟ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے مجھے پھنسانے کے لئے گڑھا کھود کر تیار کر رکھا ہے۔ یاد کر کہ مَیں نے تیرے حضور کھڑے ہو کر اُن کے لئے شفاعت کی تاکہ تیرا غضب اُن پر نازل نہ ہو۔

Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.

اب ہونے دے کہ اُن کے بچے بھوکے مر جائیں اور وہ خود تلوار کی زد میں آئیں۔ اُن کی بیویاں بےاولاد اور شوہروں سے محروم ہو جائیں۔ اُن کے آدمیوں کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتارا جائے، اُن کے نوجوان جنگ میں لڑتے لڑتے ہلاک ہو جائیں۔

Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

اچانک اُن پر جنگی دستے لا تاکہ اُن کے گھروں سے چیخوں کی آوازیں بلند ہوں۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے مجھے پکڑنے کے لئے گڑھا تیار کر رکھا ہے، اُنہوں نے میرے پاؤں کو پھنسانے کے لئے میرے راستے میں پھندے چھپا رکھے ہیں۔

Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

اے رب، تُو اُن کی مجھے قتل کرنے کی تمام سازشیں جانتا ہے۔ اُن کا قصور معاف نہ کر، اور اُن کے گناہوں کو نہ مٹا بلکہ اُنہیں ہمیشہ یاد کر۔ ہونے دے کہ وہ ٹھوکر کھا کر تیرے سامنے گر جائیں۔ جب تیرا غضب نازل ہو گا تو اُن سے بھی نپٹ لے۔

Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
