Romans 1

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

یہ خط مسیح عیسیٰ کے غلام پولس کی طرف سے ہے جسے رسول ہونے کے لئے بُلایا اور اللہ کی خوش خبری کی منادی کرنے کے لئے الگ کیا گیا ہے۔

(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

پاک نوشتوں میں درج اِس خوش خبری کا وعدہ اللہ نے پہلے ہی اپنے نبیوں سے کر رکھا تھا۔

Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

اور یہ پیغام اُس کے فرزند عیسیٰ کے بارے میں ہے۔ انسانی لحاظ سے وہ داؤد کی نسل سے پیدا ہوا،

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

جبکہ روح القدس کے لحاظ سے وہ قدرت کے ساتھ اللہ کا فرزند ٹھہرا جب وہ مُردوں میں سے جی اُٹھا۔ یہ ہے ہمارے خداوند عیسیٰ مسیح کے بارے میں اللہ کی خوش خبری۔

By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

مسیح سے ہمیں رسولی اختیار کا یہ فضل حاصل ہوا ہے کہ ہم تمام غیریہودیوں میں منادی کریں تاکہ وہ ایمان لا کر اُس کے تابع ہو جائیں اور یوں مسیح کے نام کو جلال ملے۔

Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

آپ بھی اُن غیریہودیوں میں سے ہیں، جو عیسیٰ مسیح کے بُلائے ہوئے ہیں۔

To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

مَیں آپ سب کو لکھ رہا ہوں جو روم میں اللہ کے پیارے ہیں اور مخصوص و مُقدّس ہونے کے لئے بُلائے گئے ہیں۔ خدا ہمارا باپ اور خداوند عیسیٰ مسیح آپ کو فضل اور سلامتی عطا کریں۔

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

اوّل، مَیں آپ سب کے لئے عیسیٰ مسیح کے وسیلے سے اپنے خدا کا شکر کرتا ہوں، کیونکہ پوری دنیا میں آپ کے ایمان کا چرچا ہو رہا ہے۔

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

خدا ہی میرا گواہ ہے جس کی خدمت مَیں اپنی روح میں کرتا ہوں جب مَیں اُس کے فرزند کے بارے میں خوش خبری پھیلاتا ہوں، مَیں لگاتار آپ کو یاد کرتا رہتا ہوں

Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

اور ہر وقت اپنی دعاؤں میں منت کرتا ہوں کہ اللہ مجھے آخرکار آپ کے پاس آنے کی کامیابی عطا کرے۔

For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;

کیونکہ مَیں آپ سے ملنے کا آرزومند ہوں۔ مَیں چاہتا ہوں کہ میرے ذریعے آپ کو کچھ روحانی برکت مل جائے اور یوں آپ مضبوط ہو جائیں۔

That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

یعنی آنے کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ میرے ایمان سے آپ کی حوصلہ افزائی کی جائے اور اِسی طرح آپ کے ایمان سے میرا حوصلہ بھی بڑھ جائے۔

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

بھائیو، آپ کے علم میں ہو کہ مَیں نے بہت دفعہ آپ کے پاس آنے کا ارادہ کیا۔ کیونکہ جس طرح دیگر غیریہودی اقوام میں میری خدمت سے پھل پیدا ہوا ہے اُسی طرح آپ میں بھی پھل دیکھنا چاہتا ہوں۔ لیکن آج تک مجھے روکا گیا ہے۔

I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

بات یہ ہے کہ یہ خدمت سرانجام دینا میرا فرض ہے، خواہ یونانیوں میں ہو یا غیریونانیوں میں، خواہ داناؤں میں ہو یا نادانوں میں۔

So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

یہی وجہ ہے کہ مَیں آپ کو بھی جو روم میں رہتے ہیں اللہ کی خوش خبری سنانے کا مشتاق ہوں۔

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

مَیں تو خوش خبری کے سبب سے شرماتا نہیں، کیونکہ یہ اللہ کی قدرت ہے جو ہر ایک کو جو ایمان لاتا ہے نجات دیتی ہے، پہلے یہودیوں کو، پھر غیریہودیوں کو۔

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

کیونکہ اِس خوش خبری میں اللہ کی ہی راست بازی ظاہر ہوتی ہے، وہ راست بازی جو شروع سے آخر تک ایمان پر مبنی ہے۔ یہی بات کلامِ مُقدّس میں درج ہے جب لکھا ہے، ”راست باز ایمان ہی سے جیتا رہے گا۔“

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

لیکن اللہ کا غضب آسمان پر سے اُن تمام بےدین اور ناراست لوگوں پر نازل ہوتا ہے جو سچائی کو اپنی ناراستی سے دبائے رکھتے ہیں۔

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

جو کچھ اللہ کے بارے میں معلوم ہو سکتا ہے وہ تو اُن پر ظاہر ہے، ہاں اللہ نے خود یہ اُن پر ظاہر کیا ہے۔

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

کیونکہ دنیا کی تخلیق سے لے کر آج تک انسان اللہ کی اَن دیکھی فطرت یعنی اُس کی ازلی قدرت اور الوہیت مخلوقات کا مشاہدہ کرنے سے پہچان سکتا ہے۔ اِس لئے اُن کے پاس کوئی عذر نہیں۔

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

اللہ کو جاننے کے باوجود اُنہوں نے اُسے وہ جلال نہ دیا جو اُس کا حق ہے، نہ اُس کا شکر ادا کیا بلکہ وہ باطل خیالات میں پڑ گئے اور اُن کے بےسمجھ دلوں پر تاریکی چھا گئی۔

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

وہ دعویٰ تو کرتے تھے کہ ہم دانا ہیں، لیکن احمق ثابت ہوئے۔

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

یوں اُنہوں نے غیرفانی خدا کو جلال دینے کے بجائے ایسے بُتوں کی پوجا کی جو فانی انسان، پرندوں، چوپایوں اور رینگنے والے جانوروں کی صورت میں بنائے گئے تھے۔

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

اِس لئے اللہ نے اُنہیں اُن نجس کاموں میں چھوڑ دیا جو اُن کے دل کرنا چاہتے تھے۔ نتیجے میں اُن کے جسم ایک دوسرے سے بےحرمت ہوتے رہے۔

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

ہاں، اُنہوں نے اللہ کے بارے میں سچائی کو رد کر کے جھوٹ کو اپنا لیا اور مخلوقات کی پرستش اور خدمت کی، نہ کہ خالق کی، جس کی تعریف ابد تک ہوتی رہے، آمین۔

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

یہی وجہ ہے کہ اللہ نے اُنہیں اُن کی شرم ناک شہوتوں میں چھوڑ دیا۔ اُن کی خواتین نے فطرتی جنسی تعلقات کے بجائے غیرفطرتی تعلقات رکھے۔

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

اِسی طرح مرد خواتین کے ساتھ فطرتی تعلقات چھوڑ کر ایک دوسرے کی شہوت میں مست ہو گئے۔ مردوں نے مردوں کے ساتھ بےحیا حرکتیں کر کے اپنے بدنوں میں اپنی اِس گم راہی کا مناسب بدلہ پایا۔

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

اور چونکہ اُنہوں نے اللہ کو جاننے سے انکار کر دیا اِس لئے اُس نے اُنہیں اُن کی مکروہ سوچ میں چھوڑ دیا۔ اور اِس لئے وہ ایسی حرکتیں کرتے رہتے ہیں جو کبھی نہیں کرنی چاہئیں۔

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

وہ ہر طرح کی ناراستی، شر، لالچ اور بُرائی سے بھرے ہوئے ہیں۔ وہ حسد، خوں ریزی، جھگڑے، فریب اور کینہ وری سے لبریز ہیں۔ وہ چغلی کھانے والے،

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

تہمت لگانے والے، اللہ سے نفرت کرنے والے، سرکش، مغرور، شیخی باز، بدی کو ایجاد کرنے والے، ماں باپ کے نافرمان،

Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

بےسمجھ، بےوفا، سنگ دل اور بےرحم ہیں۔

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

اگرچہ وہ اللہ کا فرمان جانتے ہیں کہ ایسا کرنے والے سزائے موت کے مستحق ہیں توبھی وہ ایسا کرتے ہیں۔ نہ صرف یہ بلکہ وہ ایسا کرنے والے دیگر لوگوں کو شاباش بھی دیتے ہیں۔
