Nehemiah 6

Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

سنبلّط، طوبیاہ، جشم عربی اور ہمارے باقی دشمنوں کو پتا چلا کہ مَیں نے فصیل کو تکمیل تک پہنچایا ہے اور دیوار میں کہیں بھی خالی جگہ نظر نہیں آتی۔ صرف دروازوں کے کواڑ اب تک لگائے نہیں گئے تھے۔

That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

تب سنبلّط اور جشم نے مجھے پیغام بھیجا، ”ہم وادیِ اونو کے شہر کفیریم میں آپ سے ملنا چاہتے ہیں۔“ لیکن مجھے معلوم تھا کہ وہ مجھے نقصان پہنچانا چاہتے ہیں۔

And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

اِس لئے مَیں نے قاصدوں کے ہاتھ جواب بھیجا، ”مَیں اِس وقت ایک بڑا کام تکمیل تک پہنچا رہا ہوں، اِس لئے مَیں آ نہیں سکتا۔ اگر مَیں آپ سے ملنے آؤں تو پورا کام رُک جائے گا۔“

Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

چار دفعہ اُنہوں نے مجھے یہی پیغام بھیجا اور ہر بار مَیں نے وہی جواب دیا۔

Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;

پانچویں مرتبہ جب سنبلّط نے اپنے ملازم کو میرے پاس بھیجا تو اُس کے ہاتھ میں ایک کھلا خط تھا۔

Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

خط میں لکھا تھا، ”پڑوسی ممالک میں افواہ پھیل گئی ہے کہ آپ اور باقی یہودی بغاوت کی تیاریاں کر رہے ہیں۔ جشم نے اِس بات کی تصدیق کی ہے۔ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اِسی وجہ سے آپ فصیل بنا رہے ہیں۔ اِن رپورٹوں کے مطابق آپ اُن کے بادشاہ بنیں گے۔

And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

کہا جاتا ہے کہ آپ نے نبیوں کو مقرر کیا ہے جو یروشلم میں اعلان کریں کہ آپ یہوداہ کے بادشاہ ہیں۔ بےشک ایسی افواہیں شہنشاہ تک بھی پہنچیں گی۔ اِس لئے آئیں، ہم مل کر ایک دوسرے سے مشورہ کریں کہ کیا کرنا چاہئے۔“

Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.

مَیں نے اُسے جواب بھیجا، ”جو کچھ آپ کہہ رہے ہیں وہ جھوٹ ہی جھوٹ ہے۔ کچھ نہیں ہو رہا، بلکہ آپ نے فرضی کہانی گھڑ لی ہے!“

For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

اصل میں دشمن ہمیں ڈرانا چاہتے تھے۔ اُنہوں نے سوچا، ”اگر ہم ایسی باتیں کہیں تو وہ ہمت ہار کر کام سے باز آئیں گے۔“ لیکن اب مَیں نے زیادہ عزم کے ساتھ کام جاری رکھا۔

Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

ایک دن مَیں سمعیاہ بن دِلایاہ بن مہیطب ایل سے ملنے گیا جو تالا لگا کر گھر میں بیٹھا تھا۔ اُس نے مجھ سے کہا، ”آئیں، ہم اللہ کے گھر میں جمع ہو جائیں اور دروازوں کو اپنے پیچھے بند کر کے کنڈی لگائیں۔ کیونکہ لوگ اِسی رات آپ کو قتل کرنے کے لئے آئیں گے۔“

And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

مَیں نے اعتراض کیا، ”کیا یہ ٹھیک ہے کہ مجھ جیسا آدمی بھاگ جائے؟ یا کیا مجھ جیسا شخص جو امام نہیں ہے رب کے گھر میں داخل ہو کر زندہ رہ سکتا ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں! مَیں ایسا نہیں کروں گا!“

And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

مَیں نے جان لیا کہ سمعیاہ کی یہ بات اللہ کی طرف سے نہیں ہے۔ سنبلّط اور طوبیاہ نے اُسے رشوت دی تھی، اِسی لئے اُس نے میرے بارے میں ایسی پیش گوئی کی تھی۔

Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

اِس سے وہ مجھے ڈرا کر گناہ کرنے پر اُکسانا چاہتے تھے تاکہ وہ میری بدنامی کر کے مجھے مذاق کا نشانہ بنا سکیں۔

My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

اے میرے خدا، طوبیاہ اور سنبلّط کی یہ بُری حرکتیں مت بھولنا! نوعدیاہ نبیہ اور باقی اُن نبیوں کو یاد رکھ جنہوں نے مجھے ڈرانے کی کوشش کی ہے۔

So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

فصیل اِلول کے مہینے کے 25ویں دن یعنی 52 دنوں میں مکمل ہوئی۔

And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

جب ہمارے دشمنوں کو یہ خبر ملی تو پڑوسی ممالک سہم گئے، اور وہ احساسِ کمتری کا شکار ہو گئے۔ اُنہوں نے جان لیا کہ اللہ نے خود یہ کام تکمیل تک پہنچایا ہے۔

Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.

اُن 52 دنوں کے دوران یہوداہ کے شرفا طوبیاہ کو خط بھیجتے رہے اور اُس سے جواب ملتے رہے تھے۔

For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

اصل میں یہوداہ کے بہت سے لوگوں نے قَسم کھا کر اُس کی مدد کرنے کا وعدہ کیا تھا۔ وجہ یہ تھی کہ وہ سکنیاہ بن ارخ کا داماد تھا، اور اُس کے بیٹے یوحنان کی شادی مسُلّام بن برکیاہ کی بیٹی سے ہوئی تھی۔

Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

طوبیاہ کے یہ مددگار میرے سامنے اُس کے نیک کاموں کی تعریف کرتے رہے اور ساتھ ساتھ میری ہر بات اُسے بتاتے رہے۔ پھر طوبیاہ مجھے خط بھیجتا تاکہ مَیں ڈر کر کام سے باز آؤں۔
