Nehemiah 13

On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;

اُس دن قوم کے سامنے موسیٰ کی شریعت کی تلاوت کی گئی۔ پڑھتے پڑھتے معلوم ہوا کہ عمونیوں اور موآبیوں کو کبھی بھی اللہ کی قوم میں شریک ہونے کی اجازت نہیں۔

Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.

وجہ یہ ہے کہ اِن قوموں نے مصر سے نکلتے وقت اسرائیلیوں کو کھانا کھلانے اور پانی پلانے سے انکار کیا تھا۔ نہ صرف یہ بلکہ اُنہوں نے بلعام کو پیسے دیئے تھے تاکہ وہ اسرائیلی قوم پر لعنت بھیجے، اگرچہ ہمارے خدا نے لعنت کو برکت میں تبدیل کیا۔

Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

جب حاضرین نے یہ حکم سنا تو اُنہوں نے تمام غیریہودیوں کو جماعت سے خارج کر دیا۔

And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:

اِس واقعے سے پہلے رب کے گھر کے گوداموں پر مقرر امام اِلیاسب نے اپنے رشتے دار طوبیاہ

And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

کے لئے ایک بڑا کمرا خالی کر دیا تھا جس میں پہلے غلہ کی نذریں، بخور اور کچھ آلات رکھے جاتے تھے۔ نیز، غلہ، نئی مَے اور زیتون کے تیل کا جو دسواں حصہ لاویوں، گلوکاروں اور دربانوں کے لئے مقرر تھا وہ بھی اُس کمرے میں رکھا جاتا تھا اور ساتھ ساتھ اماموں کے لئے مقرر حصہ بھی۔

But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:

اُس وقت مَیں یروشلم میں نہیں تھا، کیونکہ بابل کے بادشاہ ارتخشستا کی حکومت کے 32ویں سال میں مَیں اُس کے دربار میں واپس آ گیا تھا۔ کچھ دیر بعد مَیں شہنشاہ سے اجازت لے کر دوبارہ یروشلم کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔

And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.

وہاں پہنچ کر مجھے پتا چلا کہ اِلیاسب نے کتنی بُری حرکت کی ہے، کہ اُس نے اپنے رشتے دار طوبیاہ کے لئے رب کے گھر کے صحن میں کمرا خالی کر دیا ہے۔

And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.

یہ بات مجھے نہایت ہی بُری لگی، اور مَیں نے طوبیاہ کا سارا سامان کمرے سے نکال کر پھینک دیا۔

Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.

پھر مَیں نے حکم دیا کہ کمرے نئے سرے سے پاک صاف کر دیئے جائیں۔ جب ایسا ہوا تو مَیں نے رب کے گھر کا سامان، غلہ کی نذریں اور بخور دوبارہ وہاں رکھ دیا۔

And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.

مجھے یہ بھی معلوم ہوا کہ لاوی اور گلوکار رب کے گھر میں اپنی خدمت کو چھوڑ کر اپنے کھیتوں میں کام کر رہے ہیں۔ وجہ یہ تھی کہ اُنہیں وہ حصہ نہیں مل رہا تھا جو اُن کا حق تھا۔

Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

تب مَیں نے ذمہ دار افسروں کو جھڑک کر کہا، ”آپ اللہ کے گھر کا انتظام اِتنی بےپروائی سے کیوں چلا رہے ہیں؟“ مَیں نے لاویوں اور گلوکاروں کو واپس بُلا کر دوبارہ اُن کی ذمہ داریوں پر لگایا۔

Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.

یہ دیکھ کر تمام یہوداہ غلہ، نئی مَے اور زیتون کے تیل کا دسواں حصہ گوداموں میں لانے لگا۔

And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.

گوداموں کی نگرانی مَیں نے سلمیاہ امام، صدوق منشی اور فِدایاہ لاوی کے سپرد کر کے حنان بن زکور بن متنیاہ کو اُن کا مددگار مقرر کیا، کیونکہ چاروں کو قابلِ اعتماد سمجھا جاتا تھا۔ اُن ہی کو اماموں اور لاویوں میں اُن کے مقررہ حصے تقسیم کرنے کی ذمہ داری دی گئی۔

Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.

اے میرے خدا، اِس کام کے باعث مجھے یاد کر! وہ سب کچھ نہ بھول جو مَیں نے وفاداری سے اپنے خدا کے گھر اور اُس کے انتظام کے لئے کیا ہے۔

In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.

اُس وقت مَیں نے یہوداہ میں کچھ لوگوں کو دیکھا جو سبت کے دن انگور کا رس نچوڑ کر مَے بنا رہے تھے۔ دوسرے اپنے کھیتوں سے غلہ لا کر مَے، انگور، انجیر اور دیگر مختلف قسم کی پیداوار کے ساتھ گدھوں پر لاد رہے اور یروشلم پہنچا رہے تھے۔ یہ سب کچھ سبت کے دن ہو رہا تھا۔ مَیں نے اُنہیں تنبیہ کی کہ سبت کے دن خوراک فروخت نہ کرنا۔

There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

صور کے کچھ آدمی بھی جو یروشلم میں رہتے تھے سبت کے دن مچھلی اور دیگر کئی چیزیں یروشلم میں لا کر یہوداہ کے لوگوں کو بیچتے تھے۔

Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?

یہ دیکھ کر مَیں نے یہوداہ کے شرفا کو ڈانٹ کر کہا، ”یہ کتنی بُری بات ہے! آپ تو سبت کے دن کی بےحرمتی کر رہے ہیں۔

Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.

جب آپ کے باپ دادا نے ایسا کیا تو اللہ یہ ساری آفت ہم پر اور اِس شہر پر لایا۔ اب آپ سبت کے دن کی بےحرمتی کرنے سے اللہ کا اسرائیل پر غضب مزید بڑھا رہے ہیں۔“

And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

مَیں نے حکم دیا کہ جمعہ کو یروشلم کے دروازے شام کے اُس وقت بند کئے جائیں جب دروازے سائیوں میں ڈوب جائیں، اور کہ وہ سبت کے پورے دن بند رہیں۔ سبت کے اختتام تک اُنہیں کھولنے کی اجازت نہیں تھی۔ مَیں نے اپنے کچھ لوگوں کو دروازوں پر کھڑا بھی کیا تاکہ کوئی بھی اپنا سامان سبت کے دن شہر میں نہ لائے۔

So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.

یہ دیکھ کر تاجروں اور بیچنے والوں نے کئی مرتبہ سبت کی رات شہر سے باہر گزاری اور وہاں اپنا مال بیچنے کی کوشش کی۔

Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

تب مَیں نے اُنہیں تنبیہ کی، ”آپ سبت کی رات کیوں فصیل کے پاس گزارتے ہیں؟ اگر آپ دوبارہ ایسا کریں تو آپ کو حوالۂ پولیس کیا جائے گا۔“ اُس وقت سے وہ سبت کے دن آنے سے باز آئے۔

And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

لاویوں کو مَیں نے حکم دیا کہ اپنے آپ کو پاک صاف کر کے شہر کے دروازوں کی پہرہ داری کریں تاکہ اب سے سبت کا دن مخصوص و مُقدّس رہے۔ اے میرے خدا، مجھے اِس نیکی کے باعث یاد کر کے اپنی عظیم شفقت کے مطابق مجھ پر مہربانی کر۔

In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:

اُس وقت مجھے یہ بھی معلوم ہوا کہ بہت سے یہودی مردوں کی شادی اشدود، عمون اور موآب کی عورتوں سے ہوئی ہے۔

And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

اُن کے آدھے بچے صرف اشدود کی زبان یا کوئی اَور غیرملکی زبان بول لیتے تھے۔ ہماری زبان سے وہ ناواقف ہی تھے۔

And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

تب مَیں نے اُنہیں جھڑکا اور اُن پر لعنت بھیجی۔ بعض ایک کے بال نوچ نوچ کر مَیں نے اُن کی پٹائی کی۔ مَیں نے اُنہیں اللہ کی قَسم کھلانے پر مجبور کیا کہ ہم اپنے بیٹے بیٹیوں کی شادی غیرملکیوں سے نہیں کرائیں گے۔

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

مَیں نے کہا، ”اسرائیل کے بادشاہ سلیمان کو یاد کریں۔ ایسی ہی شادیوں نے اُسے گناہ کرنے پر اُکسایا۔ اُس وقت اُس کے برابر کوئی بادشاہ نہیں تھا۔ اللہ اُسے پیار کرتا تھا اور اُسے پورے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنایا۔ لیکن اُسے بھی غیرملکی بیویوں کی طرف سے گناہ کرنے پر اُکسایا گیا۔

Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

اب آپ کے بارے میں بھی یہی کچھ سننا پڑتا ہے! آپ سے بھی یہی بڑا گناہ سرزد ہو رہا ہے۔ غیرملکی عورتوں سے شادی کرنے سے آپ ہمارے خدا سے بےوفا ہو گئے ہیں!“

And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

امامِ اعظم اِلیاسب کے بیٹے یویدع کے ایک بیٹے کی شادی سنبلّط حورونی کی بیٹی سے ہوئی تھی، اِس لئے مَیں نے بیٹے کو یروشلم سے بھگا دیا۔

Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

اے میرے خدا، اُنہیں یاد کر، کیونکہ اُنہوں نے امام کے عُہدے اور اماموں اور لاویوں کے عہد کی بےحرمتی کی ہے۔

Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;

چنانچہ مَیں نے اماموں اور لاویوں کو ہر غیرملکی چیز سے پاک صاف کر کے اُنہیں اُن کی خدمت اور مختلف ذمہ داریوں کے لئے ہدایات دیں۔

And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.

نیز، مَیں نے دھیان دیا کہ فصل کی پہلی پیداوار اور قربانیوں کو جلانے کی لکڑی وقت پر رب کے گھر میں پہنچائی جائے۔ اے میرے خدا، مجھے یاد کر کے مجھ پر مہربانی کر!
