Job 1

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

ملکِ عُوض میں ایک بےالزام آدمی رہتا تھا جس کا نام ایوب تھا۔ وہ سیدھی راہ پر چلتا، اللہ کا خوف مانتا اور ہر بُرائی سے دُور رہتا تھا۔

And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

اُس کے سات بیٹے اور تین بیٹیاں پیدا ہوئیں۔

His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

ساتھ ساتھ اُس کے بہت مال مویشی تھے: 7,000 بھیڑبکریاں، 3,000 اونٹ، بَیلوں کی 500 جوڑیاں اور 500 گدھیاں۔ اُس کے بےشمار نوکر نوکرانیاں بھی تھے۔ غرض مشرق کے تمام باشندوں میں اِس آدمی کی حیثیت سب سے بڑی تھی۔

And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

اُس کے بیٹوں کا دستور تھا کہ باری باری اپنے گھروں میں ضیافت کریں۔ اِس کے لئے وہ اپنی تین بہنوں کو بھی اپنے ساتھ کھانے اور پینے کی دعوت دیتے تھے۔

And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

ہر دفعہ جب ضیافت کے دن اختتام تک پہنچتے تو ایوب اپنے بچوں کو بُلا کر اُنہیں پاک صاف کر دیتا اور صبح سویرے اُٹھ کر ہر ایک کے لئے بھسم ہونے والی ایک ایک قربانی پیش کرتا۔ کیونکہ وہ کہتا تھا، ”ہو سکتا ہے میرے بچوں نے گناہ کر کے دل میں اللہ پر لعنت کی ہو۔“ چنانچہ ایوب ہر ضیافت کے بعد ایسا ہی کرتا تھا۔

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

ایک دن فرشتے اپنے آپ کو رب کے حضور پیش کرنے آئے۔ ابلیس بھی اُن کے درمیان موجود تھا۔

And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

رب نے ابلیس سے پوچھا، ”تُو کہاں سے آیا ہے؟“ ابلیس نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں دنیا میں اِدھر اُدھر گھومتا پھرتا رہا۔“

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

رب بولا، ”کیا تُو نے میرے بندہ ایوب پر توجہ دی؟ دنیا میں اُس جیسا کوئی اَور نہیں۔ کیونکہ وہ بےالزام ہے، وہ سیدھی راہ پر چلتا، اللہ کا خوف مانتا اور ہر بُرائی سے دُور رہتا ہے۔“

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

ابلیس نے رب کو جواب دیا، ”بےشک، لیکن کیا ایوب یوں ہی اللہ کا خوف مانتا ہے؟

Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

تُو نے تو اُس کے، اُس کے گھرانے کے اور اُس کی تمام ملکیت کے ارد گرد حفاظتی باڑ لگائی ہے۔ اور جو کچھ اُس کے ہاتھ نے کیا اُس پر تُو نے برکت دی، نتیجے میں اُس کی بھیڑبکریاں اور گائےبَیل پورے ملک میں پھیل گئے ہیں۔

But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

لیکن وہ کیا کرے گا اگر تُو اپنا ہاتھ ذرا بڑھا کر سب کچھ تباہ کرے جو اُسے حاصل ہے۔ تب وہ تیرے منہ پر ہی تجھ پر لعنت کرے گا۔“

And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

رب نے ابلیس سے کہا، ”ٹھیک ہے، جو کچھ بھی اُس کا ہے وہ تیرے ہاتھ میں ہے۔ لیکن اُس کے بدن کو ہاتھ نہ لگانا۔“ ابلیس رب کے حضور سے چلا گیا۔

And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

ایک دن ایوب کے بیٹے بیٹیاں معمول کے مطابق ضیافت کر رہے تھے۔ وہ بڑے بھائی کے گھر میں کھانا کھا رہے اور مَے پی رہے تھے۔

And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

اچانک ایک قاصد ایوب کے پاس پہنچ کر کہنے لگا، ”بَیل کھیت میں ہل چلا رہے تھے اور گدھیاں ساتھ والی زمین پر چر رہی تھیں

And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

کہ سبا کے لوگوں نے ہم پر حملہ کر کے سب کچھ چھین لیا۔ اُنہوں نے تمام ملازموں کو تلوار سے مار ڈالا، صرف مَیں ہی آپ کو یہ بتانے کے لئے بچ نکلا ہوں۔“

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

وہ ابھی بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ ایک اَور قاصد پہنچاجس نے اطلاع دی، ”اللہ کی آگ نے آسمان سے گر کر آپ کی تمام بھیڑبکریوں اور ملازموں کو بھسم کر دیا۔ صرف مَیں ہی آپ کو یہ بتانے کے لئے بچ نکلا ہوں۔“

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

وہ ابھی بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ تیسرا قاصد پہنچا۔ وہ بولا، ”بابل کے کسدیوں نے تین گروہوں میں تقسیم ہو کر ہمارے اونٹوں پر حملہ کیا اور سب کچھ چھین لیا۔ تمام ملازموں کو اُنہوں نے تلوار سے مار ڈالا، صرف مَیں ہی آپ کو یہ بتانے کے لئے بچ نکلا ہوں۔“

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

وہ ابھی بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ چوتھا قاصد پہنچا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”آپ کے بیٹے بیٹیاں اپنے بڑے بھائی کے گھر میں کھانا کھا رہے اور مَے پی رہے تھے

And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

کہ اچانک ریگستان کی جانب سے ایک زوردار آندھی آئی جو گھر کے چاروں کونوں سے یوں ٹکرائی کہ وہ جوانوں پر گر پڑا۔ سب کے سب ہلاک ہو گئے۔ صرف مَیں ہی آپ کو یہ بتانے کے لئے بچ نکلا ہوں۔“

Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

یہ سب کچھ سن کر ایوب اُٹھا۔ اپنا لباس پھاڑ کر اُس نے اپنے سر کے بال منڈوائے۔ پھر اُس نے زمین پر گر کر اوندھے منہ رب کو سجدہ کیا۔

And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

وہ بولا، ”مَیں ننگی حالت میں ماں کے پیٹ سے نکلا اور ننگی حالت میں کوچ کر جاؤں گا۔ رب نے دیا، رب نے لیا، رب کا نام مبارک ہو!“

In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

اِس سارے معاملے میں ایوب نے نہ گناہ کیا، نہ اللہ کے بارے میں کفر بکا۔
