Jeremiah 10

Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

اے اسرائیل کے گھرانے، رب کا پیغام سن!

Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”دیگر اقوام کی بُت پرستی مت اپنانا۔ یہ لوگ علمِ نجوم سے مستقبل جان لینے کی کوشش کرتے کرتے پریشان ہو جاتے ہیں، لیکن تم اُن کی باتوں سے پریشان نہ ہو جاؤ۔

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

کیونکہ دیگر قوموں کے رسم و رواج فضول ہی ہیں۔ جنگل میں درخت کٹ جاتا ہے، پھر کاری گر اُسے اپنے اوزار سے تشکیل دیتا ہے۔

They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

لوگ اُسے اپنی سونا چاندی سے سجا کر کیلوں سے کہیں لگا دیتے ہیں تاکہ ہلے نہ۔

They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

بُت اُن پُتلوں کی مانند ہیں جو کھیرے کے کھیت میں کھڑے کئے جاتے ہیں تاکہ پرندوں کو بھگا دیں۔ نہ وہ بول سکتے، نہ چل سکتے ہیں، اِس لئے لوگ اُنہیں اُٹھا کر اپنے ساتھ لے جاتے ہیں۔ اُن سے مت ڈرنا، کیونکہ نہ وہ نقصان کا باعث ہیں، نہ بھلائی کا۔“

Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

اے رب، تجھ جیسا کوئی نہیں ہے، تُو عظیم ہے، تیرے نام کی عظمت زوردار طریقے سے ظاہر ہوئی ہے۔

Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

اے اقوام کے بادشاہ، کون تیرا خوف نہیں مانے گا؟ کیونکہ تُو اِس لائق ہے۔ اقوام کے تمام دانش مندوں اور اُن کے تمام ممالک میں تجھ جیسا کوئی نہیں ہے۔

But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.

سب احمق اور بےوقوف ثابت ہوئے ہیں، کیونکہ اُن کی تربیت لکڑی کے بےکار بُتوں سے حاصل ہوئی ہے۔

Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.

ترسیس سے چاندی کی چادریں اور اوفاز سے سونا لایا جاتا ہے۔ اُن سے کاری گر اور سنار بُت بنا دیتے ہیں جسے قرمزی اور ارغوانی رنگ کے کپڑے پہنائے جاتے ہیں۔ سب کچھ ماہر اُستادوں کے ہاتھ سے بنایا جاتا ہے۔

But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

لیکن رب ہی حقیقی خدا ہے۔ وہی زندہ خدا اور ابدی بادشاہ ہے۔ جب وہ ناراض ہو جاتا ہے تو زمین لرزنے لگتی ہے۔ اقوام اُس کا قہر برداشت نہیں کر سکتیں۔

Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.

بُت پرستوں کو بتاؤ کہ دیوتاؤں نے نہ آسمان کو بنایا اور نہ زمین کو، اُن کا نام و نشان تو آسمان و زمین سے مٹ جائے گا۔

He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

دیکھو، اللہ ہی نے اپنی قدرت سے زمین کو خلق کیا، اُسی نے اپنی حکمت سے دنیا کی بنیاد رکھی، اور اُسی نے اپنی سمجھ کے مطابق آسمان کو خیمے کی طرح تان لیا۔

When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

اُس کے حکم پر آسمان پر پانی کے ذخیرے گرجنے لگتے ہیں۔ وہ دنیا کی انتہا سے بادل چڑھنے دیتا، بارش کے ساتھ بجلی کڑکنے دیتا اور اپنے گوداموں سے ہَوا نکلنے دیتا ہے۔

Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

تمام انسان احمق اور سمجھ سے خالی ہیں۔ ہر سنار اپنے بُتوں کے باعث شرمندہ ہوا ہے۔ اُس کے بُت دھوکا ہی ہیں، اُن میں دم نہیں۔

They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

وہ فضول اور مضحکہ خیز ہیں۔ عدالت کے وقت وہ نیست ہو جائیں گے۔

The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.

اللہ جو یعقوب کا موروثی حصہ ہے اِن کی مانند نہیں ہے۔ وہ سب کا خالق ہے، اور اسرائیلی قوم اُس کا موروثی حصہ ہے۔ رب الافواج ہی اُس کا نام ہے۔

Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.

اے محاصرہ شدہ شہر، اپنا سامان سمیٹ کر ملک سے نکلنے کی تیاریاں کر لے۔

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.

کیونکہ رب فرماتا ہے، ”اِس بار مَیں ملک کے باشندوں کو باہر پھینک دوں گا۔ مَیں اُنہیں تنگ کروں گا تاکہ اُنہیں پکڑا جائے۔“

Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.

ہائے، میرا بیڑا غرق ہو گیا ہے! ہائے، میرا زخم بھر نہیں سکتا۔ پہلے مَیں نے سوچا کہ یہ ایسی بیماری ہے جسے مجھے برداشت ہی کرنا ہے۔

My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

لیکن اب میرا خیمہ تباہ ہو گیا ہے، اُس کے تمام رسّے ٹوٹ گئے ہیں۔ میرے بیٹے میرے پاس سے چلے گئے ہیں، ایک بھی نہیں رہا۔ کوئی نہیں ہے جو میرا خیمہ دوبارہ لگائے، جو اُس کے پردے نئے سرے سے لٹکائے۔

For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

کیونکہ قوم کے گلہ بان احمق ہو گئے ہیں، اُنہوں نے رب کو تلاش نہیں کیا۔ اِس لئے وہ کامیاب نہیں رہے، اور اُن کا پورا ریوڑ تتر بتر ہو گیا ہے۔

Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.

سنو! ایک خبر پہنچ رہی ہے، شمالی ملک سے شور و غوغا سنائی دے رہا ہے۔ یہوداہ کے شہر اُس کی زد میں آ کر برباد ہو جائیں گے۔ آئندہ گیدڑ ہی اُن میں بسیں گے۔

O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

اے رب، مَیں نے جان لیا ہے کہ انسان کی راہ اُس کے اپنے ہاتھ میں نہیں ہوتی۔ اپنی مرضی سے نہ وہ چلتا، نہ قدم اُٹھاتا ہے۔

O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

اے رب، میری تنبیہ کر، لیکن مناسب حد تک۔ طیش میں آ کر میری تنبیہ نہ کر، ورنہ مَیں بھسم ہو جاؤں گا۔

Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

اپنا غضب اُن اقوام پر نازل کر جو تجھے نہیں جانتیں، اُن اُمّتوں پر جو تیرا نام لے کر تجھے نہیں پکارتیں۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے یعقوب کو ہڑپ کر لیا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے اُسے مکمل طور پر نگل کر اُس کی چراگاہ کو تباہ کر دیا ہے۔
