Jeremiah 9

Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

کاش میرا سر پانی کا منبع اور میری آنکھیں آنسوؤں کا چشمہ ہوں تاکہ مَیں دن رات اپنی قوم کے مقتولوں پر آہ و زاری کر سکوں۔

Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

کاش ریگستان میں کہیں مسافروں کے لئے سرائے ہو تاکہ مَیں اپنی قوم کو چھوڑ کر وہاں چلا جاؤں۔ کیونکہ سب زناکار، سب غداروں کا جتھا ہیں۔

And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”وہ اپنی زبان سے جھوٹ کے تیر چلاتے ہیں، اور ملک میں اُن کی طاقت دیانت داری پر مبنی نہیں ہوتی۔ نیز، وہ بدتر ہوتے جا رہے ہیں۔ مجھے تو وہ جانتے ہی نہیں۔

Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.

ہر ایک اپنے پڑوسی سے خبردار رہے، اور اپنے کسی بھی بھائی پر بھروسا مت رکھنا۔ کیونکہ ہر بھائی چالاکی کرنے میں ماہر ہے، اور ہر پڑوسی تہمت لگانے پر تُلا رہتا ہے۔

And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

ہر ایک اپنے پڑوسی کو دھوکا دیتا ہے، کوئی بھی سچ نہیں بولتا۔ اُنہوں نے اپنی زبان کو جھوٹ بولنا سکھایا ہے، اور اب وہ غلط کام کرتے کرتے تھک گئے ہیں۔

Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

اے یرمیاہ، تُو فریب سے گھرا رہتا ہے، اور یہ لوگ فریب کے باعث ہی مجھے جاننے سے انکار کرتے ہیں۔“

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

اِس لئے رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ”دیکھو، مَیں اُنہیں خام چاندی کی طرح پگھلا کر آزماؤں گا، کیونکہ مَیں اپنی قوم، اپنی بیٹی کے ساتھ اَور کیا کر سکتا ہوں؟

Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.

اُن کی زبانیں مہلک تیر ہیں۔ اُن کے منہ پڑوسی سے صلح سلامتی کی باتیں کرتے ہیں جبکہ اندر ہی اندر وہ اُس کی تاک میں بیٹھے ہیں۔“

Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

رب فرماتا ہے، ”کیا مجھے اُنہیں اِس کی سزا نہیں دینی چاہئے؟ کیا مجھے ایسی قوم سے بدلہ نہیں لینا چاہئے؟“

For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.

مَیں پہاڑوں کے بارے میں آہ و زاری کروں گا، بیابان کی چراگاہوں پر ماتم کا گیت گاؤں گا۔ کیونکہ وہ یوں تباہ ہو گئے ہیں کہ نہ کوئی اُن میں سے گزرتا، نہ ریوڑوں کی آوازیں اُن میں سنائی دیتی ہیں۔ پرندے اور جانور سب بھاگ کر چلے گئے ہیں۔

And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.

”یروشلم کو مَیں ملبے کا ڈھیر بنا دوں گا، اور آئندہ گیدڑ اُس میں جا بسیں گے۔ یہوداہ کے شہروں کو مَیں ویران و سنسان کر دوں گا۔ ایک بھی اُن میں نہیں بسے گا۔“

Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?

کون اِتنا دانش مند ہے کہ یہ سمجھ سکے؟ کس کو رب سے اِتنی ہدایت ملی ہے کہ وہ بیان کر سکے کہ ملک کیوں برباد ہو گیا ہے؟ وہ کیوں ریگستان جیسا بن گیا ہے، اِتنا ویران کہ اُس میں سے کوئی نہیں گزرتا؟

And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;

رب نے فرمایا، ”وجہ یہ ہے کہ اُنہوں نے میری شریعت کو ترک کیا، وہ ہدایت جو مَیں نے خود اُنہیں دی تھی۔ نہ اُنہوں نے میری سنی، نہ میری شریعت کی پیروی کی۔

But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

اِس کے بجائے وہ اپنے ضدی دلوں کی پیروی کر کے بعل دیوتاؤں کے پیچھے لگ گئے ہیں۔ اُنہوں نے وہی کچھ کیا جو اُن کے باپ دادا نے اُنہیں سکھایا تھا۔“

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

اِس لئے رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ”دیکھو، مَیں اِس قوم کو کڑوا کھانا کھلا کر زہریلا پانی پلا دوں گا۔

I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.

مَیں اُنہیں ایسی قوموں میں منتشر کر دوں گا جن سے نہ وہ اور نہ اُن کے باپ دادا واقف تھے۔ میری تلوار اُس وقت تک اُن کے پیچھے پڑی رہے گی جب تک ہلاک نہ ہو جائیں۔“

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:

رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ”دھیان دے کر گریہ کرنے والی عورتوں کو بُلاؤ۔ جو جنازوں پر واویلا کرتی ہیں اُن میں سے سب سے ماہر عورتوں کو بُلاؤ۔

And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

وہ جلد آ کر ہم پر آہ و زاری کریں تاکہ ہماری آنکھوں سے آنسو بہہ نکلیں، ہماری پلکوں سے پانی خوب ٹپکنے لگے۔

For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.

کیونکہ صیون سے گریہ کی آوازیں بلند ہو رہی ہیں، ’ہائے، ہمارے ساتھ کیسی زیادتی ہوئی ہے، ہماری کیسی رُسوائی ہوئی ہے! ہم ملک کو چھوڑنے پر مجبور ہیں، کیونکہ دشمن نے ہمارے گھروں کو ڈھا دیا ہے‘۔“

Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.

اے عورتو، رب کا پیغام سنو۔ اپنے کانوں کو اُس کی ہر بات پر دھرو! اپنی بیٹیوں کو نوحہ کرنے کی تعلیم دو، ایک دوسری کو ماتم کا یہ گیت سکھاؤ،

For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.

”موت پھلانگ کر ہماری کھڑکیوں میں سے گھس آئی اور ہمارے قلعوں میں داخل ہوئی ہے۔ اب وہ بچوں کو گلیوں میں سے اور نوجوانوں کو چوکوں میں سے مٹا ڈالنے جا رہی ہے۔“

Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”نعشیں کھیتوں میں گوبر کی طرح اِدھر اُدھر بکھری پڑی رہیں گی۔ جس طرح کٹا ہوا گندم فصل کاٹنے والے کے پیچھے اِدھر اُدھر پڑا رہتا ہے اُسی طرح لاشیں اِدھر اُدھر پڑی رہیں گی۔ لیکن اُنہیں اکٹھا کرنے والا کوئی نہیں ہو گا۔“

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

رب فرماتا ہے، ”نہ دانش مند اپنی حکمت پر فخر کرے، نہ زورآور اپنے زور پر یا امیر اپنی دولت پر۔

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

فخر کرنے والا فخر کرے کہ اُسے سمجھ حاصل ہے، کہ وہ رب کو جانتا ہے اور کہ مَیں رب ہوں جو دنیا میں مہربانی، انصاف اور راستی کو عمل میں لاتا ہوں۔ کیونکہ یہی چیزیں مجھے پسند ہیں۔“

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;

رب فرماتا ہے، ”ایسا وقت آ رہا ہے جب مَیں اُن سب کو سزا دوں گا جن کا صرف جسمانی ختنہ ہوا ہے۔

Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

اِن میں مصر، یہوداہ، ادوم، عمون، موآب اور وہ شامل ہیں جو ریگستان کے کنارے کنارے رہتے ہیں۔ کیونکہ گو یہ تمام اقوام ظاہری طور پر ختنہ کی رسم ادا کرتی ہیں، لیکن اُن کا ختنہ باطنی طور پر نہیں ہوا۔ دھیان دو کہ اسرائیل کی بھی یہی حالت ہے۔“
