Jeremiah 1

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

ذیل میں یرمیاہ بن خِلقیاہ کے پیغامات قلم بند کئے گئے ہیں۔ (بن یمین کے قبائلی علاقے کے شہر عنتوت میں کچھ امام رہتے تھے، اور یرمیاہ کا والد اُن میں سے تھا)۔

To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

رب کا فرمان پہلی بار یہوداہ کے بادشاہ یوسیاہ بن امون کی حکومت کے 13ویں سال میں یرمیاہ پر نازل ہوا،

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

اور یرمیاہ کو یہ پیغامات یہویقیم بن یوسیاہ کے دورِ حکومت سے لے کر صِدقیاہ بن یوسیاہ کی حکومت کے 11ویں سال کے پانچویں مہینے تک ملتے رہے۔ اُس وقت یروشلم کے باشندوں کو جلاوطن کر دیا گیا۔

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

ایک دن رب کا کلام مجھ پر نازل ہوا،

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

”مَیں تجھے ماں کے پیٹ میں تشکیل دینے سے پہلے ہی جانتا تھا، تیری پیدائش سے پہلے ہی مَیں نے تجھے مخصوص و مُقدّس کر کے اقوام کے لئے نبی مقرر کیا۔“

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

مَیں نے اعتراض کیا، ”اے رب قادرِ مطلق، افسوس! مَیں تیرا کلام سنانے کا صحیح علم نہیں رکھتا، مَیں تو بچہ ہی ہوں۔“

But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

لیکن رب نے مجھ سے فرمایا، ”مت کہہ’مَیں بچہ ہی ہوں۔‘ کیونکہ جن کے پاس بھی مَیں تجھے بھیجوں گا اُن کے پاس تُو جائے گا، اور جو کچھ بھی مَیں تجھے سنانے کو کہوں گا اُسے تُو سنائے گا۔

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

لوگوں سے مت ڈرنا، کیونکہ مَیں تیرے ساتھ ہوں، مَیں تجھے بچائے رکھوں گا۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

پھر رب نے اپنا ہاتھ بڑھا کر میرے ہونٹوں کو چھو دیا اور فرمایا، ”دیکھ، مَیں نے اپنے الفاظ کو تیرے منہ میں ڈال دیا ہے۔

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

آج مَیں تجھے قوموں اور سلطنتوں پر مقرر کر دیتا ہوں۔ کہیں تجھے اُنہیں جڑ سے اُکھاڑ کر گرا دینا، کہیں برباد کر کے ڈھا دینا اور کہیں تعمیر کر کے پودے کی طرح لگا دینا ہے۔“

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

رب کا کلام مجھ پر نازل ہوا، ”اے یرمیاہ، تجھے کیا نظر آ رہا ہے؟“ مَیں نے جواب دیا، ”بادام کی ایک شاخ، اُس درخت کی جو ’دیکھنے والا‘ کہلاتا ہے۔“

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

رب نے فرمایا، ”تُو نے صحیح دیکھا ہے۔ اِس کا مطلب ہے کہ مَیں اپنے کلام کی دیکھ بھال کر رہا ہوں، مَیں دھیان دے رہا ہوں کہ وہ پورا ہو جائے۔“

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

پھر رب کا کلام دوبارہ مجھ پر نازل ہوا، ”تجھے کیا نظر آ رہا ہے؟“ مَیں نے جواب دیا، ”شمال میں دیگ دکھائی دے رہی ہے۔ جو کچھ اُس میں ہے وہ اُبل رہا ہے، اور اُس کا منہ ہماری طرف جھکا ہوا ہے۔“

Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

تب رب نے مجھ سے کہا، ”اِسی طرح شمال سے ملک کے تمام باشندوں پر آفت ٹوٹ پڑے گی۔“

For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

کیونکہ رب فرماتا ہے، ”مَیں شمالی ممالک کے تمام گھرانوں کو بُلا لوں گا، اور ہر ایک آ کر اپنا تخت یروشلم کے دروازوں کے سامنے ہی کھڑا کرے گا۔ ہاں، وہ اُس کی پوری فصیل کو گھیر کر اُس پر بلکہ یہوداہ کے تمام شہروں پر چھاپہ ماریں گے۔

And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

یوں مَیں اپنی قوم پر فیصلے صادر کر کے اُن کے غلط کاموں کی سزا دوں گا۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے مجھے ترک کر کے اجنبی معبودوں کے لئے بخور جلایا اور اپنے ہاتھوں سے بنے ہوئے بُتوں کو سجدہ کیا ہے۔

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

چنانچہ کمربستہ ہو جا! اُٹھ کر اُنہیں سب کچھ سنا دے جو مَیں فرماؤں گا۔ اُن سے دہشت مت کھانا، ورنہ مَیں تجھے اُن کے سامنے ہی دہشت زدہ کر دوں گا۔

For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

دیکھ، آج مَیں نے تجھے قلعہ بند شہر، لوہے کے ستون اور پیتل کی چاردیواری جیسا مضبوط بنا دیا ہے تاکہ تُو پورے ملک کا سامنا کر سکے، خواہ یہوداہ کے بادشاہ، افسر، امام یا عوام تجھ پر حملہ کیوں نہ کریں۔

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

تجھ سے لڑنے کے باوجود وہ تجھ پر غالب نہیں آئیں گے، کیونکہ مَیں تیرے ساتھ ہوں، مَیں ہی تجھے بچائے رکھوں گا۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔
