Hosea 4

Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

اے اسرائیلیو، رب کا کلام سنو! کیونکہ رب کا ملک کے باشندوں سے مقدمہ ہے۔ ”الزام یہ ہے کہ ملک میں نہ وفاداری، نہ مہربانی اور نہ اللہ کا عرفان ہے۔

By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

کوسنا، جھوٹ بولنا، چوری اور زنا کرنا عام ہو گیا ہے۔ روز بہ روز قتل و غارت کی نئی خبریں ملتی رہتی ہیں۔

Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

اِسی لئے ملک میں کال ہے اور اُس کے تمام باشندے پژمُردہ ہو گئے ہیں۔ جنگلی جانور، پرندے اور مچھلیاں بھی فنا ہو رہی ہیں۔

Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

لیکن بلاوجہ کسی پر الزام مت لگانا، نہ خواہ مخواہ کسی کی تنبیہ کرو! اے امامو، مَیں تم ہی پر الزام لگاتا ہوں۔

Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

اے امام، دن کے وقت تُو ٹھو کر کھا کر گرے گا، اور رات کے وقت نبی گر کر تیرے ساتھ پڑا رہے گا۔ مَیں تیری ماں کو بھی تباہ کروں گا۔

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

افسوس، میری قوم اِس لئے تباہ ہو رہی ہے کہ وہ صحیح علم نہیں رکھتی۔ اور کیا عجب جب تم اماموں نے یہ علم رد کر دیا ہے۔ اب مَیں تمہیں بھی رد کرتا ہوں۔ آئندہ تم امام کی خدمت ادا نہیں کرو گے۔ چونکہ تم اپنے خدا کی شریعت بھول گئے ہو اِس لئے مَیں تمہاری اولاد کو بھی بھول جاؤں گا۔

As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

اماموں کی تعداد جتنی بڑھتی گئی اُتنا ہی وہ میرا گناہ کرتے گئے۔ اُنہوں نے اپنی عزت ایسی چیز کے عوض چھوڑ دی جو رُسوائی کا باعث ہے۔

They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

میری قوم کے گناہ اُن کی خوراک ہیں، اور وہ اِس لالچ میں رہتے ہیں کہ لوگوں کا قصور مزید بڑھ جائے۔

And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.

چنانچہ اماموں اور قوم کے ساتھ ایک جیسا سلوک کیا جائے گا۔ دونوں کو مَیں اُن کے چال چلن کی سزا دوں گا، دونوں کو اُن کی حرکتوں کا اجر دوں گا۔

For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

کھانا تو وہ کھائیں گے لیکن سیر نہیں ہوں گے۔ زنا بھی کرتے رہیں گے، لیکن بےفائدہ۔ اِس سے اُن کی تعداد نہیں بڑھے گی۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے رب کا خیال کرنا چھوڑ دیا ہے۔

Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

زنا کرنے اور نئی اور پرانی مَے پینے سے لوگوں کی عقل جاتی رہتی ہے۔

My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

میری قوم لکڑی سے دریافت کرتی ہے کہ کیا کرنا ہے، اور اُس کی لاٹھی اُسے ہدایت دیتی ہے۔ کیونکہ زناکاری کی روح نے اُنہیں بھٹکا دیا ہے، زنا کرتے کرتے وہ اپنے خدا سے کہیں دُور ہو گئے ہیں۔

They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

وہ پہاڑوں کی چوٹیوں پر اپنے جانوروں کو قربان کرتے ہیں اور پہاڑیوں پر چڑھ کر بلوط، سفیدہ یا کسی اَور درخت کے خوش گوار سائے میں بخور کی قربانیاں پیش کرتے ہیں۔ اِسی لئے تمہاری بیٹیاں عصمت فروش بن گئی ہیں، اور تمہاری بہوئیں زنا کرتی ہیں۔

I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

لیکن مَیں اُنہیں اُن کی عصمت فروشی اور زناکاری کی سزا کیوں دوں جبکہ تم مرد کسبیوں سے صحبت رکھتے اور دیوتاؤں کی خدمت میں عصمت فروشی کرنے والی عورتوں کے ساتھ قربانیاں چڑھاتے ہو؟ ایسی حرکتوں سے ناسمجھ قوم تباہ ہو رہی ہے۔

Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth–aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

اے اسرائیل، تُو عصمت فروش ہے، لیکن یہوداہ خبردار رہے کہ وہ اِس جرم میں ملوث نہ ہو جائے۔ اسرائیل کے شہروں جِلجال اور بیت آون کی قربان گاہوں کے پاس مت جانا۔ ایسی جگہوں پر رب کا نام لے کر اُس کی حیات کی قَسم کھانا منع ہے۔

For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

اسرائیل تو ضدی گائے کی طرح اَڑ گیا ہے۔ تو پھر رب اُنہیں کس طرح سبزہ زار میں بھیڑ کے بچوں کی طرح چَرا سکتا ہے؟

Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

اسرائیل تو بُتوں کا اتحادی ہے، اُسے چھوڑ دے!

Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.

یہ لوگ شراب کی محفل سے فارغ ہو کر زناکاری میں لگ جاتے ہیں۔ وہ ناجائز محبت کرتے کرتے کبھی نہیں تھکتے۔ لیکن اِس کا اجر اُن کی اپنی بےعزتی ہے۔

The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

آندھی اُنہیں اپنی لپیٹ میں لے کر اُڑا لے جائے گی، اور وہ اپنی قربانیوں کے باعث شرمندہ ہو جائیں گے۔
