Ecclesiastes 5

Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

اللہ کے گھر میں جاتے وقت اپنے قدموں کا خیال رکھ اور سننے کے لئے تیار رہ۔ یہ احمقوں کی قربانیوں سے کہیں بہتر ہے، کیونکہ وہ جانتے ہی نہیں کہ غلط کام کر رہے ہیں۔

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

بولنے میں جلدبازی نہ کر، تیرا دل اللہ کے حضور کچھ بیان کرنے میں جلدی نہ کرے۔ اللہ آسمان پر ہے جبکہ تُو زمین پر ہی ہے۔ لہٰذا بہتر ہے کہ تُو کم باتیں کرے۔

For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.

کیونکہ جس طرح حد سے زیادہ محنت مشقت سے خواب آنے لگتے ہیں اُسی طرح بہت باتیں کرنے سے آدمی کی حماقت ظاہر ہوتی ہے۔

When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

اگر تُو اللہ کے حضور مَنت مانے تو اُسے پورا کرنے میں دیر مت کر۔ وہ احمقوں سے خوش نہیں ہوتا، چنانچہ اپنی مَنت پوری کر۔

Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

مَنت نہ ماننا مَنت مان کر اُسے پورا نہ کرنے سے بہتر ہے۔

Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

اپنے منہ کو اجازت نہ دے کہ وہ تجھے گناہ میں پھنسائے، اور اللہ کے پیغمبر کے سامنے نہ کہہ، ”مجھ سے غیرارادی غلطی ہوئی ہے۔“ کیا ضرورت ہے کہ اللہ تیری بات سے ناراض ہو کر تیری محنت کا کام تباہ کرے؟

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

جہاں بہت خواب دیکھے جاتے ہیں وہاں فضول باتیں اور بےشمار الفاظ ہوتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ اللہ کا خوف مان!

If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

کیا تجھے صوبے میں ایسے لوگ نظر آتے ہیں جو غریبوں پر ظلم کرتے، اُن کا حق مارتے اور اُنہیں انصاف سے محروم رکھتے ہیں؟ تعجب نہ کر، کیونکہ ایک سرکاری ملازم دوسرے کی نگہبانی کرتا ہے، اور اُن پر مزید ملازم مقرر ہوتے ہیں۔

Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

چنانچہ ملک کے لئے ہر لحاظ سے فائدہ اِس میں ہے کہ ایسا بادشاہ اُس پر حکومت کرے جو کاشت کاری کی فکر کرتا ہے۔

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

جسے پیسے پیارے ہوں وہ کبھی مطمئن نہیں ہو گا، خواہ اُس کے پاس کتنے ہی پیسے کیوں نہ ہوں۔ جو زردوست ہو وہ کبھی آسودہ نہیں ہو گا، خواہ اُس کے پاس کتنی ہی دولت کیوں نہ ہو۔ یہ بھی باطل ہی ہے۔

When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

جتنا مال میں اضافہ ہو اُتنا ہی اُن کی تعداد بڑھتی ہے جو اُسے کھا جاتے ہیں۔ اُس کے مالک کو اُس کا کیا فائدہ ہے سوائے اِس کے کہ وہ اُسے دیکھ دیکھ کر مزہ لے؟

The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

کام کاج کرنے والے کی نیند میٹھی ہوتی ہے، خواہ اُس نے کم یا زیادہ کھانا کھایا ہو، لیکن امیر کی دولت اُسے سونے نہیں دیتی۔

There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.

مجھے سورج تلے ایک نہایت بُری بات نظر آئی۔ جو دولت کسی نے اپنے لئے محفوظ رکھی وہ اُس کے لئے نقصان کا باعث بن گئی۔

But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

کیونکہ جب یہ دولت کسی مصیبت کے باعث تباہ ہو گئی اور آدمی کے ہاں بیٹا پیدا ہوا تو اُس کے ہاتھ میں کچھ نہیں تھا۔

As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

ماں کے پیٹ سے نکلتے وقت وہ ننگا تھا، اور اِسی طرح کوچ کر کے چلا بھی جائے گا۔ اُس کی محنت کا کوئی پھل نہیں ہو گا جسے وہ اپنے ساتھ لے جا سکے۔

And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?

یہ بھی بہت بُری بات ہے کہ جس طرح انسان آیا اُسی طرح کوچ کر کے چلا بھی جاتا ہے۔ اُسے کیا فائدہ ہوا ہے کہ اُس نے ہَوا کے لئے محنت مشقت کی ہو؟

All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

جیتے جی وہ ہر دن تاریکی میں کھانا کھاتے ہوئے گزارتا، زندگی بھر وہ بڑی رنجیدگی، بیماری اور غصے میں مبتلا رہتا ہے۔

Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.

تب مَیں نے جان لیا کہ انسان کے لئے اچھا اور مناسب ہے کہ وہ جتنے دن اللہ نے اُسے دیئے ہیں کھائے پیئے اور سورج تلے اپنی محنت مشقت کے پھل کا مزہ لے، کیونکہ یہی اُس کے نصیب میں ہے۔

Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

کیونکہ جب اللہ کسی شخص کو مال و متاع عطا کر کے اُسے اِس قابل بنائے کہ اُس کا مزہ لے سکے، اپنا نصیب قبول کر سکے اور محنت مشقت کے ساتھ ساتھ خوش بھی ہو سکے تو یہ اللہ کی بخشش ہے۔

For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

ایسے شخص کو زندگی کے دنوں پر غور و خوض کرنے کا کم ہی وقت ملتا ہے، کیونکہ اللہ اُسے دل میں خوشی دلا کر مصروف رکھتا ہے۔
