Ecclesiastes 11

Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

اپنی روٹی پانی پر پھینک کر جانے دے تو متعدد دنوں کے بعد وہ تجھے پھر مل جائے گی۔

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

اپنی ملکیت سات بلکہ آٹھ مختلف کاموں میں لگا دے، کیونکہ تجھے کیا معلوم کہ ملک کیا کیا مصیبت سے دوچار ہو گا۔

If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

اگر بادل پانی سے بھرے ہوں تو زمین پر بارش ضرور ہو گی۔ درخت جنوب یا شمال کی طرف گر جائے تو اُسی طرف پڑا رہے گا۔

He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

جو ہر وقت ہَوا کا رُخ دیکھتا رہے وہ کبھی بیج نہیں بوئے گا۔ جو بادلوں کو تکتا رہے وہ کبھی فصل کی کٹائی نہیں کرے گا۔

As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

جس طرح نہ تجھے ہَوا کے چکر معلوم ہیں، نہ یہ کہ ماں کے پیٹ میں بچہ کس طرح تشکیل پاتا ہے اُسی طرح تُو اللہ کا کام نہیں سمجھ سکتا، جو سب کچھ عمل میں لاتا ہے۔

In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

صبح کے وقت اپنا بیج بو اور شام کو بھی کام میں لگا رہ، کیونکہ کیا معلوم کہ کس کام میں کامیابی ہو گی، اِس میں، اُس میں یا دونوں میں۔

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:

روشنی کتنی بھلی ہے، اور سورج آنکھوں کے لئے کتنا خوش گوار ہے۔

But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

جتنے بھی سال انسان زندہ رہے اُتنے سال وہ خوش باش رہے۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُسے یاد رہے کہ تاریک دن بھی آنے والے ہیں، اور کہ اُن کی بڑی تعداد ہو گی۔ جو کچھ آنے والا ہے وہ باطل ہی ہے۔

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

اے نوجوان، جب تک تُو جوان ہے خوش رہ اور جوانی کے مزے لیتا رہ۔ جو کچھ تیرا دل چاہے اور تیری آنکھوں کو پسند آئے وہ کر، لیکن یاد رہے کہ جو کچھ بھی تُو کرے اُس کا جواب اللہ تجھ سے طلب کرے گا۔

Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

چنانچہ اپنے دل سے رنجیدگی اور اپنے جسم سے دُکھ درد دُور رکھ، کیونکہ جوانی اور کالے بال دم بھر کے ہی ہیں۔
