Daniel 4

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

نبوکدنضر دنیا کی تمام قوموں، اُمّتوں اور زبانوں کے افراد کو ذیل کا پیغام بھیجتا ہے، سب کی سلامتی ہو!

I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

مَیں نے سب کو اُن الٰہی نشانات اور معجزات سے آگاہ کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے جو اللہ تعالیٰ نے میرے لئے کئے ہیں۔

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

اُس کے نشان کتنے عظیم، اُس کے معجزات کتنے زبردست ہیں! اُس کی بادشاہی ابدی ہے، اُس کی سلطنت نسل در نسل قائم رہتی ہے۔

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

مَیں، نبوکدنضر خوشی اور سکون سے اپنے محل میں رہتا تھا۔

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

لیکن ایک دن مَیں ایک خواب دیکھ کر بہت گھبرا گیا۔ مَیں پلنگ پر لیٹا ہوا تھا کہ اِتنی ہول ناک باتیں اور رویائیں میرے سامنے سے گزریں کہ مَیں ڈر گیا۔

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

تب مَیں نے حکم دیا کہ بابل کے تمام دانش مند میرے پاس آئیں تاکہ میرے لئے خواب کی تعبیر کریں۔

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

قسمت کا حال بتانے والے، جادوگر، نجومی اور غیب دان پہنچے تو مَیں نے اُنہیں اپنا خواب بیان کیا، لیکن وہ اُس کی تعبیر کرنے میں ناکام رہے۔

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,

آخرکار دانیال میرے حضور آیا جس کا نام بیل طَشَضَر رکھا گیا ہے (میرے دیوتا کا نام بیل ہے)۔ دانیال میں مُقدّس دیوتاؤں کی روح ہے۔ اُسے بھی مَیں نے اپنا خواب سنایا۔

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

مَیں بولا، ”اے بیل طَشَضَر، تم جادوگروں کے سردار ہو، اور مَیں جانتا ہوں کہ مُقدّس دیوتاؤں کی روح تم میں ہے۔ کوئی بھی بھید تمہارے لئے اِتنا مشکل نہیں ہے کہ تم اُسے کھول نہ سکو۔ اب میرا خواب سن کر اُس کی تعبیر کرو!

Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

پلنگ پر لیٹے ہوئے مَیں نے رویا میں دیکھا کہ دنیا کے بیچ میں نہایت لمبا سا درخت لگا ہے۔

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

یہ درخت اِتنا اونچا اور تناور ہوتا گیا کہ آخرکار اُس کی چوٹی آسمان تک پہنچ گئی اور وہ دنیا کی انتہا تک نظر آیا۔

The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

اُس کے پتے خوب صورت تھے، اور وہ بہت پھل لاتا تھا۔ اُس کے سائے میں جنگلی جانور پناہ لیتے، اُس کی شاخوں میں پرندے بسیرا کرتے تھے۔ ہر انسان و حیوان کو اُس سے خوراک ملتی تھی۔

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

مَیں ابھی درخت کو دیکھ رہا تھا کہ ایک مُقدّس فرشتہ آسمان سے اُتر آیا۔

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

اُس نے بڑے زور سے آواز دی، ’درخت کو کاٹ ڈالو! اُس کی شاخیں توڑ دو، اُس کے پتے جھاڑ دو، اُس کا پھل بکھیر دو! جانور اُس کے سائے میں سے نکل کر بھاگ جائیں، پرندے اُس کی شاخوں سے اُڑ جائیں۔

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

لیکن اُس کا مُڈھ جڑوں سمیت زمین میں رہنے دو۔ اُسے لوہے اور پیتل کی زنجیروں میں جکڑ کر کھلے میدان کی گھاس میں چھوڑ دو۔ وہاں اُسے آسمان کی اوس تر کرے، اور جانوروں کے ساتھ زمین کی گھاس ہی اُس کو نصیب ہو۔

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

سات سال تک اُس کا انسانی دل جانور کے دل میں بدل جائے۔

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

کیونکہ مُقدّس فرشتوں نے فتویٰ دیا ہے کہ ایسا ہی ہو تاکہ انسان جان لے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا اختیار انسانی سلطنتوں پر ہے۔ وہ اپنی ہی مرضی سے لوگوں کو اُن پر مقرر کرتا ہے، خواہ وہ کتنے ذلیل کیوں نہ ہوں۔‘

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

مَیں، نبوکدنضر نے خواب میں یہ کچھ دیکھا۔ اے بیل طَشَضَر، اب مجھے اِس کی تعبیر پیش کرو۔ میری سلطنت کے تمام دانش مند اِس میں ناکام رہے ہیں۔ لیکن تم یہ کر پاؤ گے، کیونکہ تم میں مُقدّس دیوتاؤں کی روح ہے۔“

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

تب بیل طَشَضَریعنی دانیال کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو گئے، اور جو خیالات اُبھر آئے اُن سے اُس پر کافی دیر تک سخت دہشت طاری رہی۔ آخرکار بادشاہ بولا، ”اے بیل طَشَضَر، خواب اور اُس کا مطلب تجھے اِتنا دہشت زدہ نہ کرے۔“ بیلطَشَضَر نے جواب دیا، ”میرے آقا، کاش خواب کی باتیں آپ کے دشمنوں اور مخالفوں کو پیش آئیں!

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

آپ نے ایک درخت دیکھا جو اِتنا اونچا اور تناور ہو گیا کہ اُس کی چوٹی آسمان تک پہنچی اور وہ پوری دنیا کو نظر آیا۔

Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

اُس کے پتے خوب صورت تھے، اور وہ بہت سا پھل لاتا تھا۔ اُس کے سائے میں جنگلی جانور پناہ لیتے، اُس کی شاخوں میں پرندے بسیرا کرتے تھے۔ ہر انسان و حیوان کو اُس سے خوراک ملتی تھی۔

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

اے بادشاہ، آپ ہی یہ درخت ہیں! آپ ہی بڑے اور طاقت ور ہو گئے ہیں بلکہ آپ کی عظمت بڑھتے بڑھتے آسمان سے باتیں کرنے لگی، آپ کی سلطنت دنیا کی انتہا تک پھیل گئی ہے۔

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

اے بادشاہ، اِس کے بعد آپ نے ایک مُقدّس فرشتے کو دیکھا جو آسمان سے اُتر کر بولا، ’درخت کو کاٹ ڈالو! اُسے تباہ کرو، لیکن اُس کا مُڈھ جڑوں سمیت زمین میں رہنے دو۔ اُسے لوہے اور پیتل کی زنجیروں میں جکڑ کر کھلے میدان کی گھاس میں چھوڑ دو۔ وہاں اُسے آسمان کی اوس تر کرے، اور جانوروں کے ساتھ زمین کی گھاس ہی اُس کو نصیب ہو۔ سات سال یوں ہی گزر جائیں۔

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

اے بادشاہ، اِس کا مطلب یہ ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ نے میرے آقا بادشاہ کے بارے میں فیصلہ کیا ہے

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

کہ آپ کو انسانی سنگت سے نکال کر بھگایا جائے گا۔ تب آپ جنگلی جانوروں کے ساتھ رہ کر بَیلوں کی طرح گھاس چریں گے اور آسمان کی اوس سے تر ہو جائیں گے۔ سات سال یوں ہی گزریں گے۔ پھر آخرکار آپ اقرار کریں گے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا انسانی سلطنتوں پر اختیار ہے، وہ اپنی ہی مرضی سے لوگوں کو اُن پر مقرر کرتا ہے۔

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

لیکن خواب میں یہ بھی کہا گیا کہ درخت کے مُڈھ کو جڑوں سمیت زمین میں چھوڑا جائے۔ اِس کا مطلب ہے کہ آپ کی سلطنت تاہم قائم رہے گی۔ جب آپ اعتراف کریں گے کہ تمام اختیار آسمان کے ہاتھ میں ہے تو آپ کو سلطنت واپس ملے گی۔

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

اے بادشاہ، اب مہربانی سے میرا مشورہ قبول فرمائیں۔ انصاف کر کے اور مظلوموں پر کرم فرما کر اپنے گناہوں کو دُور کریں۔ شاید ایسا کرنے سے آپ کی خوش حالی قائم رہے۔“

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

دانیال کی ہر بات نبوکدنضر کو پیش آئی۔

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

بارہ مہینے کے بعد بادشاہ بابل میں اپنے شاہی محل کی چھت پر ٹہل رہا تھا۔

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

تب وہ کہنے لگا، ”لو، یہ عظیم شہر دیکھو جو مَیں نے اپنی رہائش کے لئے تعمیر کیا ہے! یہ سب کچھ مَیں نے اپنی ہی زبردست قوت سے بنا لیا ہے تاکہ میری شان و شوکت مزید بڑھتی جائے۔“

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

بادشاہ یہ بات بول ہی رہا تھا کہ آسمان سے آواز سنائی دی، ”اے نبوکدنضر بادشاہ، سن! سلطنت تجھ سے چھین لی گئی ہے۔

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

تجھے انسانی سنگت سے نکال کر بھگایا جائے گا، اور تُو جنگلی جانوروں کے ساتھ رہ کر بَیل کی طرح گھاس چَرے گا۔ سات سال یوں ہی گزر جائیں گے۔ پھر آخرکار تُو اقرار کرے گا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا انسانی سلطنتوں پر اختیار ہے، وہ اپنی ہی مرضی سے لوگوں کو اُن پر مقرر کرتا ہے۔“

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

جوں ہی آواز بند ہوئی تو ایسا ہی ہوا۔ نبوکدنضر کو انسانی سنگت سے نکال کر بھگایا گیا، اور وہ بَیلوں کی طرح گھاس چرنے لگا۔ اُس کا جسم آسمان کی اوس سے تر ہوتا رہا۔ ہوتے ہوتے اُس کے بال عقاب کے پَروں جتنے لمبے اور اُس کے ناخن پرندے کے چنگل کی مانند ہوئے۔

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

لیکن سات سال گزرنے کے بعد مَیں، نبوکدنضر اپنی آنکھوں کو آسمان کی طرف اُٹھا کر دوبارہ ہوش میں آیا۔ تب مَیں نے اللہ تعالیٰ کی تمجید کی، مَیں نے اُس کی حمد و ثنا کی جو ہمیشہ تک زندہ ہے۔ اُس کی حکومت ابدی ہے، اُس کی سلطنت نسل در نسل قائم رہتی ہے۔

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

اُس کی نسبت دنیا کے تمام باشندے صفر کے برابر ہیں۔ وہ آسمانی فوج اور دنیا کے باشندوں کے ساتھ جو جی چاہے کرتا ہے۔ اُسے کچھ کرنے سے کوئی نہیں روک سکتا، کوئی اُس سے جواب طلب کر کے پوچھ نہیں سکتا، ”تُو نے کیا کِیا؟“

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

جوں ہی مَیں دوبارہ ہوش میں آیا تو مجھے پہلی شاہی عزت اور شان و شوکت بھی از سرِ نو حاصل ہوئی۔ میرے مشیر اور شرفا دوبارہ میرے سامنے حاضر ہوئے، اور مجھے دوبارہ تخت پر بٹھایا گیا۔ پہلے کی نسبت میری عظمت میں اضافہ ہوا۔

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

اب مَیں، نبوکدنضر آسمان کے بادشاہ کی حمد و ثنا کرتا ہوں۔ مَیں اُسی کو جلال دیتا ہوں، کیونکہ جو کچھ بھی وہ کرے وہ صحیح ہے۔ اُس کی تمام راہیں منصفانہ ہیں۔ جو مغرور ہو کر زندگی گزارتے ہیں اُنہیں وہ پست کرنے کے قابل ہے۔
