II Kings 23

And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

تب بادشاہ یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے تمام بزرگوں کو بُلا کر

And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.

رب کے گھر میں گیا۔ سب لوگ چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک اُس کے ساتھ گئے یعنی یہوداہ کے آدمی، یروشلم کے باشندے، امام اور نبی۔ وہاں پہنچ کر جماعت کے سامنے عہد کی اُس پوری کتاب کی تلاوت کی گئی جو رب کے گھر میں ملی تھی۔

And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

پھر بادشاہ نے ستون کے پاس کھڑے ہو کر رب کے حضور عہد باندھا اور وعدہ کیا، ”ہم رب کی پیروی کریں گے، ہم پورے دل و جان سے اُس کے احکام اور ہدایات پوری کر کے اِس کتاب میں درج عہد کی باتیں قائم رکھیں گے۔“ پوری قوم عہد میں شریک ہوئی۔

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth–el.

اب بادشاہ نے امامِ اعظم خِلقیاہ، دوسرے درجے پر مقرر اماموں اور دربانوں کو حکم دیا، ”رب کے گھر میں سے وہ تمام چیزیں نکال دیں جو بعل دیوتا، یسیرت دیوی اور آسمان کے پورے لشکر کی پوجا کے لئے استعمال ہوئی ہیں۔“ پھر اُس نے یہ سارا سامان یروشلم کے باہر وادیِ قدرون کے کھلے میدان میں جلا دیا اور اُس کی راکھ اُٹھا کر بیت ایل لے گیا۔

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

اُس نے اُن بُت پرست پجاریوں کو بھی ہٹا دیا جنہیں یہوداہ کے بادشاہوں نے یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم کے گرد و نواح کے مندروں میں قربانیاں پیش کرنے کے لئے مقرر کیا تھا۔ یہ پجاری نہ صرف بعل دیوتا کو اپنے نذرانے پیش کرتے تھے بلکہ سورج، چاند، جھرمٹوں اور آسمان کے پورے لشکر کو بھی۔

And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.

یسیرت دیوی کا کھمبا یوسیاہ نے رب کے گھر سے نکال کر شہر کے باہر وادیِ قدرون میں جلا دیا۔ پھر اُس نے اُسے پیس کر اُس کی راکھ غریب لوگوں کی قبروں پر بکھیر دی۔

And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.

رب کے گھر کے پاس ایسے مکان تھے جو جسم فروش مردوں اور عورتوں کے لئے بنائے گئے تھے۔ اُن میں عورتیں یسیرت دیوی کے لئے کپڑے بھی بُنتی تھیں۔ اب بادشاہ نے اُن کو بھی گرا دیا۔

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer–sheba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

پھر یوسیاہ تمام اماموں کو یروشلم واپس لایا۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے یہوداہ کے شمال میں جِبع سے لے کر جنوب میں بیرسبع تک اونچی جگہوں کے اُن تمام مندروں کی بےحرمتی کی جہاں امام پہلے قربانیاں پیش کرتے تھے۔ یروشلم کے اُس دروازے کے پاس بھی دو مندر تھے جو شہر کے سردار یشوع کے نام سے مشہور تھا۔ اِن کو بھی یوسیاہ نے ڈھا دیا۔ (شہر میں داخل ہوتے وقت یہ مندر بائیں طرف نظر آتے تھے۔)

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

جن اماموں نے اونچی جگہوں پر خدمت کی تھی اُنہیں یروشلم میں رب کے حضور قربانیاں پیش کرنے کی اجازت نہیں تھی۔ لیکن وہ باقی اماموں کی طرح بےخمیری روٹی کے لئے مخصوص روٹی کھا سکتے تھے۔

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

بن ہنوم کی وادی کی قربان گاہ بنام توفت کو بھی بادشاہ نے ڈھا دیا تاکہ آئندہ کوئی بھی اپنے بیٹے یا بیٹی کو جلا کر مَلِک دیوتا کو قربان نہ کر سکے۔

And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entering in of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan–melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

گھوڑے کے جو مجسمے یہوداہ کے بادشاہوں نے سورج دیوتا کی تعظیم میں کھڑے کئے تھے اُنہیں بھی یوسیاہ نے گرا دیا اور اُن کے رتھوں کو جلا دیا۔ یہ گھوڑے رب کے گھر کے صحن میں دروازے کے ساتھ کھڑے تھے، وہاں جہاں درباری افسر بنام ناتن مَلِک کا کمرا تھا۔

And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

آخز بادشاہ نے اپنی چھت پر ایک کمرا بنایا تھا جس کی چھت پر بھی مختلف بادشاہوں کی بنی ہوئی قربان گاہیں تھیں۔ اب یوسیاہ نے اِن کو بھی ڈھا دیا اور اُن دو قربان گاہوں کو بھی جو منسّی نے رب کے گھر کے دو صحنوں میں کھڑی کی تھیں۔ اِن کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر کے اُس نے ملبہ وادیِ قدرون میں پھینک دیا۔

And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

نیز، بادشاہ نے یروشلم کے مشرق میں اونچی جگہوں کے مندروں کی بےحرمتی کی۔ یہ مندر ہلاکت کے پہاڑ کے جنوب میں تھے، اور سلیمان بادشاہ نے اُنہیں تعمیر کیا تھا۔ اُس نے اُنہیں صیدا کی شرم ناک دیوی عستارات، موآب کے مکروہ دیوتا کموس اور عمون کے قابلِ گھن دیوتا ملکوم کے لئے بنایا تھا۔

And he brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.

یوسیاہ نے دیوتاؤں کے لئے مخصوص کئے گئے ستونوں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر کے یسیرت دیوی کے کھمبے کٹوا دیئے اور مقامات پر انسانی ہڈیاں بکھیر کر اُن کی بےحرمتی کی۔

Moreover the altar that was at Beth–el, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the grove.

بیت ایل میں اب تک اونچی جگہ پر وہ مندر اور قربان گاہ پڑی تھی جو یرُبعام بن نباط نے تعمیر کی تھی۔ یرُبعام ہی نے اسرائیل کو گناہ کرنے پر اُکسایا تھا۔ جب یوسیاہ نے دیکھا کہ جس پہاڑ پر قربان گاہ ہے اُس کی ڈھلانوں پر بہت سی قبریں ہیں تو اُس نے حکم دیا کہ اُن کی ہڈیاں نکال کر قربان گاہ پر جلا دی جائیں۔ یوں قربان گاہ کی بےحرمتی بالکل اُسی طرح ہوئی جس طرح رب نے مردِ خدا کی معرفت فرمایا تھا۔ اِس کے بعد یوسیاہ نے مندر اور قربان گاہ کو گرا دیا۔ اُس نے یسیرت دیوی کا مجسمہ کوٹ کوٹ کر آخر میں سب کچھ جلا دیا۔

And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

بیت ایل میں اب تک اونچی جگہ پر وہ مندر اور قربان گاہ پڑی تھی جو یرُبعام بن نباط نے تعمیر کی تھی۔ یرُبعام ہی نے اسرائیل کو گناہ کرنے پر اُکسایا تھا۔ جب یوسیاہ نے دیکھا کہ جس پہاڑ پر قربان گاہ ہے اُس کی ڈھلانوں پر بہت سی قبریں ہیں تو اُس نے حکم دیا کہ اُن کی ہڈیاں نکال کر قربان گاہ پر جلا دی جائیں۔ یوں قربان گاہ کی بےحرمتی بالکل اُسی طرح ہوئی جس طرح رب نے مردِ خدا کی معرفت فرمایا تھا۔ اِس کے بعد یوسیاہ نے مندر اور قربان گاہ کو گرا دیا۔ اُس نے یسیرت دیوی کا مجسمہ کوٹ کوٹ کر آخر میں سب کچھ جلا دیا۔

Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth–el.

پھر یوسیاہ کو ایک اَور قبر نظر آئی۔ اُس نے شہر کے باشندوں سے پوچھا، ”یہ کس کی قبر ہے؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”یہ یہوداہ کے اُس مردِ خدا کی قبر ہے جس نے بیت ایل کی قربان گاہ کے بارے میں عین وہ پیش گوئی کی تھی جو آج آپ کے وسیلے سے پوری ہوئی ہے۔“

And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

یہ سن کر بادشاہ نے حکم دیا، ”اِسے چھوڑ دو! کوئی بھی اِس کی ہڈیوں کو نہ چھیڑے۔“ چنانچہ اُس کی اور اُس نبی کی ہڈیاں بچ گئیں جو سامریہ سے اُس سے ملنے آیا اور بعد میں اُس کی قبر میں دفنایا گیا تھا۔

And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth–el.

جس طرح یوسیاہ نے بیت ایل کے مندر کو تباہ کیا اُسی طرح اُس نے سامریہ کے تمام شہروں کے مندروں کے ساتھ کیا۔ اُنہیں اونچی جگہوں پر بنا کر اسرائیل کے بادشاہوں نے رب کو طیش دلایا تھا۔

And he slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men's bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.

اِن مندروں کے پجاریوں کو اُس نے اُن کی اپنی اپنی قربان گاہوں پر سزائے موت دی اور پھر انسانی ہڈیاں اُن پر جلا کر اُن کی بےحرمتی کی۔ اِس کے بعد وہ یروشلم لوٹ گیا۔

And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto the LORD your God, as it is written in the book of this covenant.

یروشلم میں آ کر بادشاہ نے حکم دیا، ”پوری قوم رب اپنے خدا کی تعظیم میں فسح کی عید منائے، جس طرح عہد کی کتاب میں فرمایا گیا ہے۔“

Surely there was not holden such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

اُس زمانے سے لے کر جب قاضی اسرائیل کی راہنمائی کرتے تھے یوسیاہ کے دنوں تک فسح کی عید اِس طرح نہیں منائی گئی تھی۔ اسرائیل اور یہوداہ کے بادشاہوں کے ایام میں بھی ایسی عید نہیں منائی گئی تھی۔

But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, wherein this passover was holden to the LORD in Jerusalem.

یوسیاہ کی حکومت کے 18ویں سال میں پہلی دفعہ رب کی تعظیم میں ایسی عید یروشلم میں منائی گئی۔

Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

یوسیاہ اُن تمام ہدایات کے تابع رہا جو شریعت کی اُس کتاب میں درج تھیں جو خِلقیاہ امام کو رب کے گھر میں ملی تھی۔ چنانچہ اُس نے مُردوں کی روحوں سے رابطہ کرنے والوں، رمّالوں، گھریلو بُتوں، دوسرے بُتوں اور باقی تمام مکروہ چیزوں کو ختم کر دیا۔

And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

نہ یوسیاہ سے پہلے، نہ اُس کے بعد اُس جیسا کوئی بادشاہ ہوا جس نے اُس طرح پورے دل، پوری جان اور پوری طاقت کے ساتھ رب کے پاس واپس آ کر موسوی شریعت کے ہر فرمان کے مطابق زندگی گزاری ہو۔

Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal.

توبھی رب یہوداہ پر اپنے غصے سے باز نہ آیا، کیونکہ منسّی نے اپنی غلط حرکتوں سے اُسے حد سے زیادہ طیش دلایا تھا۔

And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

اِسی لئے رب نے فرمایا، ”جو کچھ مَیں نے اسرائیل کے ساتھ کیا وہی کچھ یہوداہ کے ساتھ بھی کروں گا۔ مَیں اُسے اپنے حضور سے خارج کر دوں گا۔ اپنے چنے ہوئے شہر یروشلم کو مَیں رد کروں گا اور ساتھ ساتھ اُس گھر کو بھی جس کے بارے میں مَیں نے کہا، ’وہاں میرا نام ہو گا‘۔“

Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

باقی جو کچھ یوسیاہ کی حکومت کے دوران ہوا اور جو کچھ اُس نے کیا وہ ’شاہانِ یہوداہ کی تاریخ‘ کی کتاب میں بیان کیا گیا ہے۔

In his days Pharaoh–nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

یوسیاہ کی حکومت کے دوران مصر کا بادشاہ نکوہ فرعون دریائے فرات کے لئے روانہ ہوا تاکہ اسور کے بادشاہ سے لڑے۔ راستے میں یوسیاہ اُس سے لڑنے کے لئے نکلا۔ لیکن جب مجِدّو کے قریب اُن کا ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ مقابلہ ہوا تو نکوہ نے اُسے مار دیا۔

And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.

یوسیاہ کے ملازم اُس کی لاش رتھ پر رکھ کر مجِدّو سے یروشلم لے آئے جہاں اُسے اُس کی اپنی قبر میں دفن کیا گیا۔ پھر اُمّت نے اُس کے بیٹے یہوآخز کو مسح کر کے باپ کے تخت پر بٹھا دیا۔

Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

یہوآخز 23 سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بنا، اور یروشلم میں اُس کی حکومت کا دورانیہ تین ماہ تھا۔ اُس کی ماں حموطل بنت یرمیاہ لِبناہ کی رہنے والی تھی۔

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

اپنے باپ دادا کی طرح وہ بھی ایسا کام کرتا رہا جو رب کو ناپسند تھا۔

And Pharaoh–nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

نکوہ فرعون نے ملکِ حمات کے شہر رِبلہ میں اُسے گرفتار کر لیا، اور اُس کی حکومت ختم ہوئی۔ ملکِ یہوداہ کو خراج کے طور پر تقریباً 3,400 کلو گرام چاندی اور 34 کلو گرام سونا ادا کرنا پڑا۔

And Pharaoh–nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.

یہوآخز کی جگہ فرعون نے یوسیاہ کے ایک اَور بیٹے کو تخت پر بٹھایا۔ اُس کے نام اِلیاقیم کو اُس نے یہویقیم میں بدل دیا۔ یہوآخز کو وہ اپنے ساتھ مصر لے گیا جہاں وہ بعد میں مرا بھی۔

And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh–nechoh.

مطلوبہ چاندی اور سونے کی رقم ادا کرنے کے لئے یہویقیم نے لوگوں سے خاص ٹیکس لیا۔ اُمّت کو اپنی دولت کے مطابق پیسے دینے پڑے۔ اِس طریقے سے یہویقیم فرعون کو خراج ادا کر سکا۔

Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

یہویقیم 25 سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بنا، اور وہ یروشلم میں رہ کر 11 سال حکومت کرتا رہا۔ اُس کی ماں زبودہ بنت فِدایاہ روماہ کی رہنے والی تھی۔

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

باپ دادا کی طرح اُس کا چال چلن بھی رب کو ناپسند تھا۔
