II Chronicles 24

Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beer–sheba.

یوآس 7 سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بنا، اور یروشلم میں اُس کی حکومت کا دورانیہ 40 سال تھا۔ اُس کی ماں ضِبیاہ بیرسبع کی رہنے والی تھی۔

And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

یہویدع کے جیتے جی یوآس وہ کچھ کرتا رہا جو رب کو پسند تھا۔

And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

یہویدع نے اُس کی شادی دو خواتین سے کرائی جن کے بیٹے بیٹیاں پیدا ہوئے۔

And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.

کچھ دیر کے بعد یوآس نے رب کے گھر کی مرمت کرانے کا فیصلہ کیا۔

And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.

اماموں اور لاویوں کو اپنے پاس بُلا کر اُس نے اُنہیں حکم دیا، ”یہوداہ کے شہروں میں سے گزر کر تمام لوگوں سے پیسے جمع کریں تاکہ آپ سال بہ سال اپنے خدا کے گھر کی مرمت کروائیں۔ اب جا کر جلدی کریں۔“ لیکن لاویوں نے بڑی دیر لگائی۔

And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

تب بادشاہ نے امامِ اعظم یہویدع کو بُلا کر پوچھا، ”آپ نے لاویوں سے کیوں نہیں مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم سے رب کے گھر کی مرمت کے پیسے جمع کریں؟ یہ تو کوئی نئی بات نہیں ہے، کیونکہ رب کا خادم موسیٰ بھی ملاقات کا خیمہ ٹھیک رکھنے کے لئے اسرائیلی جماعت سے ٹیکس لیتا رہا۔

For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.

آپ کو خود معلوم ہے کہ اُس بےدین عورت عتلیاہ نے اپنے پیروکاروں کے ساتھ رب کے گھر میں نقب لگا کر رب کے لئے مخصوص ہدیئے چھین لئے اور بعل کے اپنے بُتوں کی خدمت کے لئے استعمال کئے تھے۔“

And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.

بادشاہ کے حکم پر ایک صندوق بنوایا گیا جو باہر، رب کے گھر کے صحن کے دروازے پر رکھا گیا۔

And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

پورے یہوداہ اور یروشلم میں اعلان کیا گیا کہ رب کے لئے وہ ٹیکس ادا کیا جائے جس کا خدا کے خادم موسیٰ نے ریگستان میں اسرائیلیوں سے مطالبہ کیا تھا۔

And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

یہ سن کر تمام راہنما بلکہ پوری قوم خوش ہوئی۔ اپنے ہدیئے رب کے گھر کے پاس لا کر وہ اُنہیں صندوق میں ڈالتے رہے۔ جب کبھی وہ بھر جاتا

Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

تو لاوی اُسے اُٹھا کر بادشاہ کے افسروں کے پاس لے جاتے۔ اگر اُس میں واقعی بہت پیسے ہوتے تو بادشاہ کا میرمنشی اور امامِ اعظم کا ایک افسر آ کر اُسے خالی کر دیتے۔ پھر لاوی اُسے اُس کی جگہ واپس رکھ دیتے تھے۔ یہ سلسلہ روزانہ جاری رہا، اور آخرکار بہت بڑی رقم اکٹھی ہو گئی۔

And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

بادشاہ اور یہویدع یہ پیسے اُن ٹھیکے داروں کو دیا کرتے تھے جو رب کے گھر کی مرمت کرواتے تھے۔ یہ پیسے پتھر تراشنے والوں، بڑھئیوں اور اُن کاری گروں کی اُجرت کے لئے صَرف ہوئے جو لوہے اور پیتل کا کام کرتے تھے۔

So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

رب کے گھر کی مرمت کے نگرانوں نے محنت سے کام کیا، اور اُن کے زیرِ نگرانی ترقی ہوتی گئی۔ آخر میں رب کے گھر کی حالت پہلے کی سی ہو گئی تھی بلکہ اُنہوں نے اُسے مزید مضبوط بنا دیا۔

And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

کام کے اختتام پر ٹھیکے دار باقی پیسے یوآس بادشاہ اور یہویدع کے پاس لائے۔ اِن سے اُنہوں نے رب کے گھر کی خدمت کے لئے درکار پیالے، سونے اور چاندی کے برتن اور دیگر کئی چیزیں جو قربانیاں چڑھانے کے لئے استعمال ہوتی تھیں بنوائیں۔ یہویدع کے جیتے جی رب کے گھر میں باقاعدگی سے بھسم ہونے والی قربانیاں پیش کی جاتی رہیں۔

But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

یہویدع نہایت بوڑھا ہو گیا۔ 130 سال کی عمر میں وہ فوت ہوا۔

And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

اُسے یروشلم کے اُس حصے میں شاہی قبرستان میں دفنایا گیا جو ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے، کیونکہ اُس نے اسرائیل میں اللہ اور اُس کے گھر کی اچھی خدمت کی تھی۔

Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

یہویدع کی موت کے بعد یہوداہ کے بزرگ یوآس کے پاس آ کر منہ کے بل جھک گئے۔ اُس وقت سے وہ اُن کے مشوروں پر عمل کرنے لگا۔

And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

اِس کا ایک نتیجہ یہ نکلا کہ وہ اُن کے ساتھ مل کر رب اپنے باپ کے خدا کے گھر کو چھوڑ کر یسیرت دیوی کے کھمبوں اور بُتوں کی پوجا کرنے لگا۔ اِس گناہ کی وجہ سے اللہ کا غضب یہوداہ اور یروشلم پر نازل ہوا۔

Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

اُس نے اپنے نبیوں کو لوگوں کے پاس بھیجا تاکہ وہ اُنہیں سمجھا کر رب کے پاس واپس لائیں۔ لیکن کوئی بھی اُن کی بات سننے کے لئے تیار نہ ہوا۔

And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

پھر اللہ کا روح یہویدع امام کے بیٹے زکریاہ پر نازل ہوا، اور اُس نے قوم کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر کہا، ”اللہ فرماتا ہے، ’تم رب کے احکام کی خلاف ورزی کیوں کرتے ہو؟ تمہیں کامیابی حاصل نہیں ہو گی۔ چونکہ تم نے رب کو ترک کر دیا ہے اِس لئے اُس نے تمہیں ترک کر دیا ہے‘!“

And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

جواب میں لوگوں نے زکریاہ کے خلاف سازش کر کے اُسے بادشاہ کے حکم پر رب کے گھر کے صحن میں سنگسار کر دیا۔

Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

یوں یوآس بادشاہ نے اُس مہربانی کا خیال نہ کیا جو یہویدع نے اُس پر کی تھی بلکہ اُسے نظرانداز کر کے اُس کے بیٹے کو قتل کیا۔ مرتے وقت زکریاہ بولا، ”رب دھیان دے کر میرا بدلہ لے!“

And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

اگلے سال کے آغاز میں شام کی فوج یوآس سے لڑنے آئی۔ یہوداہ میں گھس کر اُنہوں نے یروشلم پر فتح پائی اور قوم کے تمام بزرگوں کو مار ڈالا۔ سارا لُوٹا ہوا مال دمشق کو بھیجا گیا جہاں بادشاہ تھا۔

For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

اگرچہ شام کی فوج یہوداہ کی فوج کی نسبت بہت چھوٹی تھی توبھی رب نے اُسے فتح بخشی۔ چونکہ یہوداہ نے رب اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کو ترک کر دیا تھا اِس لئے یوآس کو شام کے ہاتھوں سزا ملی۔

And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

جنگ کے دوران یہوداہ کا بادشاہ شدید زخمی ہوا۔ جب دشمن نے ملک کو چھوڑ دیا تو یوآس کے افسروں نے اُس کے خلاف سازش کی۔ یہویدع امام کے بیٹے کے قتل کا انتقام لے کر اُنہوں نے اُسے مار ڈالا جب وہ بیمار حالت میں بستر پر پڑا تھا۔ بادشاہ کو یروشلم کے اُس حصے میں دفن کیا گیا جو ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے۔ لیکن شاہی قبرستان میں نہیں دفنایا گیا۔

And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

سازش کرنے والوں کے نام زبد اور یہوزبد تھے۔ پہلے کی ماں سِمعات عمونی تھی جبکہ دوسرے کی ماں سِمریت موآبی تھی۔

Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

یوآس کے بیٹوں، اُس کے خلاف نبیوں کے فرمانوں اور اللہ کے گھر کی مرمت کے بارے میں مزید معلومات ’شاہان کی کتاب‘ میں درج ہیں۔ یوآس کے بعد اُس کا بیٹا اَمصیاہ تخت نشین ہوا۔
