I Kings 18

And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

بہت دن گزر گئے۔ پھر کال کے تیسرے سال میں رب الیاس سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”اب جا کر اپنے آپ کو اخی اب کے سامنے پیش کر۔ مَیں بارش کا سلسلہ دوبارہ شروع کر دوں گا۔“

And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

چنانچہ الیاس اخی اب سے ملنے کے لئے اسرائیل چلا گیا۔ اُس وقت سامریہ کال کی سخت گرفت میں تھا،

And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:

اِس لئے اخی اب نے محل کے انچارج عبدیاہ کو بُلایا۔ (عبدیاہ رب کا خوف مانتا تھا۔

For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

جب ایزبل نے رب کے تمام نبیوں کو قتل کرنے کی کوشش کی تھی تو عبدیاہ نے 100 نبیوں کو دو غاروں میں چھپا دیا تھا۔ ہر غار میں 50 نبی رہتے تھے، اور عبدیاہ اُنہیں کھانے پینے کی چیزیں پہنچاتا رہتا تھا۔)

And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.

اب اخی اب نے عبدیاہ کو حکم دیا، ”پورے ملک میں سے گزر کر تمام چشموں اور وادیوں کا معائنہ کریں۔ شاید کہیں کچھ گھاس مل جائے جو ہم اپنے گھوڑوں اور خچروں کو کھلا کر اُنہیں بچا سکیں۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ ہمیں کھانے کی قلت کے باعث کچھ جانوروں کو ذبح کرنا پڑے۔“

So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

اُنہوں نے مقرر کیا کہ اخی اب کہاں جائے گا اور عبدیاہ کہاں، پھر دونوں ایک دوسرے سے الگ ہو گئے۔

And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

چلتے چلتے عبدیاہ کو اچانک الیاس اُس کی طرف آتے ہوئے نظر آیا۔ جب عبدیاہ نے اُسے پہچانا تو وہ منہ کے بل جھک کر بولا، ”میرے آقا الیاس، کیا آپ ہی ہیں؟“

And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

الیاس نے جواب دیا، ”جی، مَیں ہی ہوں۔ جائیں، اپنے مالک کو اطلاع دیں کہ الیاس آ گیا ہے۔“

And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

عبدیاہ نے اعتراض کیا، ”مجھ سے کیا غلطی ہوئی ہے کہ آپ مجھے اخی اب سے مروانا چاہتے ہیں؟

As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

رب آپ کے خدا کی قَسم، بادشاہ نے اپنے بندوں کو ہر قوم اور ملک میں بھیج دیا ہے تاکہ آپ کو ڈھونڈ نکالیں۔ اور جہاں جواب ملا کہ الیاس یہاں نہیں ہے وہاں لوگوں کو قَسم کھانی پڑی کہ ہم الیاس کا کھوج لگانے میں ناکام رہے ہیں۔

And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

اور اب آپ چاہتے ہیں کہ مَیں بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر اُسے بتاؤں کہ الیاس یہاں ہے؟

And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.

عین ممکن ہے کہ جب مَیں آپ کو چھوڑ کر چلا جاؤں تو رب کا روح آپ کو اُٹھا کر کسی نامعلوم جگہ لے جائے۔ اگر بادشاہ میری یہ اطلاع سن کر یہاں آئے اور آپ کو نہ پائے تو مجھے مار ڈالے گا۔ یاد رہے کہ مَیں جوانی سے لے کر آج تک رب کا خوف مانتا آیا ہوں۔

Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

کیا میرے آقا تک یہ خبر نہیں پہنچی کہ جب ایزبل رب کے نبیوں کو قتل کر رہی تھی تو مَیں نے کیا کِیا؟ مَیں دو غاروں میں پچاس پچاس نبیوں کو چھپا کر اُنہیں کھانے پینے کی چیزیں پہنچاتا رہا۔

And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.

اور اب آپ چاہتے ہیں کہ مَیں اخی اب کے پاس جا کر اُسے اطلاع دوں کہ الیاس یہاں آ گیا ہے؟ وہ مجھے ضرور مار ڈالے گا۔“

And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.

الیاس نے کہا، ”رب الافواج کی حیات کی قَسم جس کی خدمت مَیں کرتا ہوں، آج مَیں اپنے آپ کو ضرور بادشاہ کو پیش کروں گا۔“

So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

تب عبدیاہ چلا گیا اور بادشاہ کو الیاس کی خبر پہنچائی۔ یہ سن کر اخی اب الیاس سے ملنے کے لئے آیا۔

And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

الیاس کو دیکھتے ہی اخی اب بولا، ”اے اسرائیل کو مصیبت میں ڈالنے والے، کیا آپ واپس آ گئے ہیں؟“

And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

الیاس نے اعتراض کیا، ”مَیں تو اسرائیل کے لئے مصیبت کا باعث نہیں بنا بلکہ آپ اور آپ کے باپ کا گھرانا۔ آپ رب کے احکام چھوڑ کر بعل کے بُتوں کے پیچھے لگ گئے ہیں۔

Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

اب مَیں آپ کو چیلنج دیتا ہوں، تمام اسرائیل کو بُلا کر کرمل پہاڑ پر جمع کریں۔ ساتھ ساتھ بعل دیوتا کے 450 نبیوں کو اور ایزبل کی میز پر شریک ہونے والے یسیرت دیوی کے 400 نبیوں کو بھی بُلائیں۔“

So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

اخی اب مان گیا۔ اُس نے تمام اسرائیلیوں اور نبیوں کو بُلایا۔ جب وہ کرمل پہاڑ پر جمع ہو گئے

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

تو الیاس اُن کے سامنے جا کھڑا ہوا اور کہا، ”آپ کب تک کبھی اِس طرف، کبھی اُس طرف لنگڑاتے رہیں گے ؟ اگر رب خدا ہے تو صرف اُسی کی پیروی کریں، لیکن اگر بعل واحد خدا ہے تو اُسی کے پیچھے لگ جائیں۔“ لوگ خاموش رہے۔

Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

الیاس نے بات جاری رکھی، ”رب کے نبیوں میں سے صرف مَیں ہی باقی رہ گیا ہوں۔ دوسری طرف بعل دیوتا کے یہ 450 نبی کھڑے ہیں۔

Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

اب دو بَیل لے آئیں۔ بعل کے نبی ایک کو پسند کریں اور پھر اُسے ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر کے اپنی قربان گاہ کی لکڑیوں پر رکھ دیں۔ لیکن وہ لکڑیوں کو آگ نہ لگائیں۔ مَیں دوسرے بَیل کو تیار کر کے اپنی قربان گاہ کی لکڑیوں پر رکھ دوں گا۔ لیکن مَیں بھی اُنہیں آگ نہیں لگاؤں گا۔

And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

پھر آپ اپنے دیوتا کا نام پکاریں جبکہ مَیں رب کا نام پکاروں گا۔ جو معبود قربانی کو جلا کر جواب دے گا وہی خدا ہے۔“ تمام لوگ بولے، ”آپ ٹھیک کہتے ہیں۔“

And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.

پھر الیاس نے بعل کے نبیوں سے کہا، ”شروع کریں، کیونکہ آپ بہت ہیں۔ ایک بَیل کو چن کر اُسے تیار کریں۔ لیکن اُسے آگ مت لگانا بلکہ اپنے دیوتا کا نام پکاریں تاکہ وہ آگ بھیج دے۔“

And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.

اُنہوں نے بَیلوں میں سے ایک کو چن کر اُسے تیار کیا، پھر بعل کا نام پکارنے لگے۔ صبح سے لے کر دوپہر تک وہ مسلسل چیختے چلّاتے رہے، ”اے بعل، ہماری سن!“ ساتھ ساتھ وہ اُس قربان گاہ کے ارد گرد ناچتے رہے جو اُنہوں نے بنائی تھی۔ لیکن نہ کوئی آواز سنائی دی، نہ کسی نے جواب دیا۔

And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

دوپہر کے وقت الیاس اُن کا مذاق اُڑانے لگا، ”زیادہ اونچی آواز سے بولیں! شاید وہ سوچوں میں غرق ہو یا اپنی حاجت رفع کرنے کے لئے ایک طرف گیا ہو۔ یہ بھی ہو سکتا ہے کہ وہ کہیں سفر کر رہا ہو۔ یا شاید وہ گہری نیند سو گیا ہو اور اُسے جگانے کی ضرورت ہے۔“

And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

تب وہ مزید اونچی آواز سے چیخنے چلّانے لگے۔ معمول کے مطابق وہ چھریوں اور نیزوں سے اپنے آپ کو زخمی کرنے لگے، یہاں تک کہ خون بہنے لگا۔

And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

دوپہر گزر گئی، اور وہ شام کے اُس وقت تک وجد میں رہے جب غلہ کی نذر پیش کی جاتی ہے۔ لیکن کوئی آواز نہ سنائی دی۔ نہ کسی نے جواب دیا، نہ اُن کے تماشے پر توجہ دی۔

And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.

پھر الیاس اسرائیلیوں سے مخاطب ہوا، ”آئیں، سب یہاں میرے پاس آئیں!“ سب قریب آئے۔ وہاں رب کی ایک قربان گاہ تھی جو گرائی گئی تھی۔ اب الیاس نے وہ دوبارہ کھڑی کی۔

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

اُس نے یعقوب سے نکلے ہر قبیلے کے لئے ایک ایک پتھر چن لیا۔ (بعد میں رب نے یعقوب کا نام اسرائیل رکھا تھا)۔

And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

اِن بارہ پتھروں کو لے کر الیاس نے رب کے نام کی تعظیم میں قربان گاہ بنائی۔ اِس کے ارد گرد اُس نے اِتنا چوڑا گڑھا کھودا کہ اُس میں تقریباً 15 لٹر پانی سما سکتا تھا۔

And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

پھر اُس نے قربان گاہ پر لکڑیوں کا ڈھیر لگایا اور بَیل کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر کے لکڑیوں پر رکھ دیا۔ اِس کے بعد اُس نے حکم دیا، ”چار گھڑے پانی سے بھر کر قربانی اور لکڑیوں پر اُنڈیل دیں!“

And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

جب اُنہوں نے ایسا کیا تو اُس نے دوبارہ ایسا کرنے کا حکم دیا، پھر تیسری بار۔

And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

آخرکار اِتنا پانی تھا کہ اُس نے چاروں طرف قربان گاہ سے ٹپک کر گڑھے کو بھر دیا۔

And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

شام کے وقت جب غلہ کی نذر پیش کی جاتی ہے الیاس نے قربان گاہ کے پاس جا کر بلند آواز سے دعا کی، ”اے رب، اے ابراہیم، اسحاق اور اسرائیل کے خدا، آج لوگوں پر ظاہر کر کہ اسرائیل میں تُو ہی خدا ہے اور کہ مَیں تیرا خادم ہوں۔ ثابت کر کہ مَیں نے یہ سب کچھ تیرے حکم کے مطابق کیا ہے۔

Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

اے رب، میری دعا سن! میری سن تاکہ یہ لوگ جان لیں کہ تُو، اے رب، خدا ہے اور کہ تُو ہی اُن کے دلوں کو دوبارہ اپنی طرف مائل کر رہا ہے۔“

Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

اچانک آسمان سے رب کی آگ نازل ہوئی۔ آگ نے نہ صرف قربانی اور لکڑی کو بھسم کر دیا بلکہ قربان گاہ کے پتھروں اور اُس کے نیچے کی مٹی کو بھی۔ گڑھے میں پانی بھی ایک دم سوکھ گیا۔

And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

یہ دیکھ کر اسرائیلی اوندھے منہ گر کر پکارنے لگے، ”رب ہی خدا ہے! رب ہی خدا ہے!“

And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

پھر الیاس نے اُنہیں حکم دیا، ”بعل کے نبیوں کو پکڑ لیں۔ ایک بھی بچنے نہ پائے!“ لوگوں نے اُنہیں پکڑ لیا تو الیاس اُنہیں نیچے وادیِ قیسون میں لے گیا اور وہاں سب کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتار دیا۔

And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

پھر الیاس نے اخی اب سے کہا، ”اب جا کر کچھ کھائیں اور پئیں، کیونکہ موسلادھار بارش کا شور سنائی دے رہا ہے۔“

So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

چنانچہ اخی اب کھانے پینے کے لئے چلا گیا جبکہ الیاس کرمل پہاڑ کی چوٹی پر چڑھ گیا۔ وہاں اُس نے جھک کر اپنے سر کو دونوں گھٹنوں کے بیچ میں چھپا لیا۔

And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

اپنے نوکر کو اُس نے حکم دیا، ”جاؤ، سمندر کی طرف دیکھو۔“ نوکر گیا اور سمندر کی طرف دیکھا، پھر واپس آ کر الیاس کو اطلاع دی، ”کچھ بھی نظر نہیں آتا۔“ لیکن الیاس نے اُسے دوبارہ دیکھنے کے لئے بھیج دیا۔ اِس دفعہ بھی کچھ معلوم نہ ہو سکا۔ سات بار الیاس نے نوکر کو دیکھنے کے لئے بھیجا۔

And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

آخرکار جب نوکر ساتویں دفعہ گیا تو اُس نے واپس آ کر اطلاع دی، ”ایک چھوٹا سا بادل سمندر میں سے نکل کر اوپر چڑھ رہا ہے۔ وہ آدمی کے ہاتھ کے برابر ہے۔“ تب الیاس نے حکم دیا، ”جاؤ، اخی اب کو اطلاع دو، ’گھوڑوں کو فوراً رتھ میں جوت کر گھر چلے جائیں، ورنہ بارش آپ کو روک لے گی‘۔“

And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

نوکر اطلاع دینے چلا گیا تو جلد ہی آندھی آئی، آسمان پر کالے کالے بادل چھا گئے اور موسلادھار بارش برسنے لگی۔ اخی اب جلدی سے رتھ پر سوار ہو کر یزرعیل کے لئے روانہ ہو گیا۔

And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

اُس وقت رب نے الیاس کو خاص طاقت دی۔ سفر کے لئے کمربستہ ہو کر وہ اخی اب کے رتھ کے آگے آگے دوڑ کر اُس سے پہلے یزرعیل پہنچ گیا۔
