I Kings 12

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

رحبعام سِکم گیا، کیونکہ وہاں تمام اسرائیلی اُسے بادشاہ مقرر کرنے کے لئے جمع ہو گئے تھے۔

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)

یرُبعام بن نباط یہ خبر سنتے ہی مصر سے جہاں اُس نے سلیمان بادشاہ سے بھاگ کر پناہ لی تھی اسرائیل واپس آیا۔

That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

اسرائیلیوں نے اُسے بُلایا تاکہ اُس کے ساتھ سِکم جائیں۔ جب پہنچا تو اسرائیل کی پوری جماعت یرُبعام کے ساتھ مل کر رحبعام سے ملنے گئی۔ اُنہوں نے بادشاہ سے کہا،

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

”جو جوا آپ کے باپ نے ہم پر ڈال دیا تھا اُسے اُٹھانا مشکل تھا، اور جو وقت اور پیسے ہمیں بادشاہ کی خدمت میں صَرف کرنے تھے وہ ناقابلِ برداشت تھے۔ اب دونوں کو کم کر دیں۔ پھر ہم خوشی سے آپ کی خدمت کریں گے۔“

And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

رحبعام نے جواب دیا، ”مجھے تین دن کی مہلت دیں، پھر دوبارہ میرے پاس آئیں۔“ چنانچہ لوگ چلے گئے۔

And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

پھر رحبعام بادشاہ نے اُن بزرگوں سے مشورہ کیا جو سلیمان کے جیتے جی بادشاہ کی خدمت کرتے رہے تھے۔ اُس نے پوچھا، ”آپ کا کیا خیال ہے؟ مَیں اِن لوگوں کو کیا جواب دوں؟“

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

بزرگوں نے جواب دیا، ”ہمارا مشورہ ہے کہ اِس وقت اُن کا خادم بن کر اُن کی خدمت کریں اور اُنہیں نرم جواب دیں۔ اگر آپ ایسا کریں تو وہ ہمیشہ آپ کے وفادار خادم بنے رہیں گے۔“

But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

لیکن رحبعام نے بزرگوں کا مشورہ رد کر کے اُس کی خدمت میں حاضر اُن جوانوں سے مشورہ کیا جو اُس کے ساتھ پروان چڑھے تھے۔

And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

اُس نے پوچھا، ”مَیں اِس قوم کو کیا جواب دوں؟ یہ تقاضا کر رہے ہیں کہ مَیں وہ جوا ہلکا کر دوں جو میرے باپ نے اُن پر ڈال دیا۔“

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

جو جوان اُس کے ساتھ پروان چڑھے تھے اُنہوں نے کہا، ”اچھا، یہ لوگ تقاضا کر رہے ہیں کہ آپ کے باپ کا جوا ہلکا کیا جائے؟ اُنہیں بتا دینا، ’میری چھوٹی اُنگلی میرے باپ کی کمر سے زیادہ موٹی ہے!

And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

بےشک جو جوا اُس نے آپ پر ڈال دیا اُسے اُٹھانا مشکل تھا، لیکن میرا جوا اَور بھی بھاری ہو گا۔ جہاں میرے باپ نے آپ کو کوڑے لگائے وہاں مَیں آپ کی بچھوؤں سے تادیب کروں گا‘!“

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

تین دن کے بعد جب یرُبعام تمام اسرائیلیوں کے ساتھ رحبعام کا فیصلہ سننے کے لئے واپس آیا

And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;

تو بادشاہ نے اُنہیں سخت جواب دیا۔ بزرگوں کا مشورہ رد کر کے

And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

اُس نے اُنہیں جوانوں کا جواب دیا، ”بےشک جو جوا میرے باپ نے آپ پر ڈال دیا اُسے اُٹھانا مشکل تھا، لیکن میرا جوا اَور بھی بھاری ہو گا۔ جہاں میرے باپ نے آپ کو کوڑے لگائے وہاں مَیں آپ کی بچھوؤں سے تادیب کروں گا!“

Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

یوں رب کی مرضی پوری ہوئی کہ رحبعام لوگوں کی بات نہیں مانے گا۔ کیونکہ اب رب کی وہ پیش گوئی پوری ہوئی جو سَیلا کے نبی اخیاہ نے یرُبعام بن نباط کو بتائی تھی۔

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

جب اسرائیلیوں نے دیکھا کہ بادشاہ ہماری بات سننے کے لئے تیار نہیں ہے تو اُنہوں نے اُس سے کہا، ”نہ ہمیں داؤد سے میراث میں کچھ ملے گا، نہ یسّی کے بیٹے سے کچھ ملنے کی اُمید ہے۔ اے اسرائیل، سب اپنے اپنے گھر واپس چلیں! اے داؤد، اب اپنا گھر خود سنبھال لو!“ یہ کہہ کر وہ سب چلے گئے۔

But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

صرف یہوداہ کے قبیلے کے شہروں میں رہنے والے اسرائیلی رحبعام کے تحت رہے۔

Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

پھر رحبعام بادشاہ نے بےگاریوں پر مقرر افسر ادونیرام کو شمالی قبیلوں کے پاس بھیج دیا، لیکن اُسے دیکھ کر تمام لوگوں نے اُسے سنگسار کیا۔ تب رحبعام جلدی سے اپنے رتھ پر سوار ہوا اور بھاگ کر یروشلم پہنچ گیا۔

So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

یوں اسرائیل کے شمالی قبیلے داؤد کے شاہی گھرانے سے الگ ہو گئے اور آج تک اُس کی حکومت نہیں مانتے۔

And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

جب خبر شمالی اسرائیل میں پھیلی کہ یرُبعام مصر سے واپس آ گیا ہے تو لوگوں نے قومی اجلاس منعقد کر کے اُسے بُلایا اور وہاں اُسے اپنا بادشاہ بنا لیا۔ صرف یہوداہ کا قبیلہ رحبعام اور اُس کے گھرانے کا وفادار رہا۔

And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

جب رحبعام یروشلم پہنچا تو اُس نے یہوداہ اور بن یمین کے قبیلوں کے چیدہ چیدہ فوجیوں کو اسرائیل سے جنگ کرنے کے لئے بُلایا۔ 1,80,000 مرد جمع ہوئے تاکہ رحبعام بن سلیمان کے لئے اسرائیل پر دوبارہ قابو پائیں۔

But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

لیکن عین اُس وقت مردِ خدا سمعیاہ کو اللہ کی طرف سے پیغام ملا،

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

”یہوداہ کے بادشاہ رحبعام بن سلیمان، یہوداہ اور بن یمین کے تمام افراد اور باقی لوگوں کو اطلاع دے،

Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

’رب فرماتا ہے کہ اپنے اسرائیلی بھائیوں سے جنگ مت کرنا۔ ہر ایک اپنے اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے، کیونکہ جو کچھ ہوا ہے وہ میرے حکم پر ہوا ہے‘۔“ تب وہ رب کی سن کر اپنے اپنے گھر واپس چلے گئے۔

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

یرُبعام افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے کے شہر سِکم کو مضبوط کر کے وہاں آباد ہوا۔ بعد میں اُس نے فنوایل شہر کی بھی قلعہ بندی کی اور وہاں منتقل ہوا۔

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

لیکن دل میں اندیشہ رہا کہ کہیں اسرائیل دوبارہ داؤد کے گھرانے کے ہاتھ میں نہ آ جائے۔

If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

اُس نے سوچا، ”لوگ باقاعدگی سے یروشلم آتے جاتے ہیں تاکہ وہاں رب کے گھر میں اپنی قربانیاں پیش کریں۔ اگر یہ سلسلہ توڑا نہ جائے تو آہستہ آہستہ اُن کے دل دوبارہ یہوداہ کے بادشاہ رحبعام کی طرف مائل ہو جائیں گے۔ آخرکار وہ مجھے قتل کر کے رحبعام کو اپنا بادشاہ بنا لیں گے۔“

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

اپنے افسروں کے مشورے پر اُس نے سونے کے دو بچھڑے بنوائے۔ لوگوں کے سامنے اُس نے اعلان کیا، ”ہر قربانی کے لئے یروشلم جانا مشکل ہے! اے اسرائیل دیکھ، یہ تیرے دیوتا ہیں جو تجھے مصر سے نکال لائے۔“

And he set the one in Beth–el, and the other put he in Dan.

ایک بُت اُس نے جنوبی شہر بیت ایل میں کھڑا کیا اور دوسرا شمالی شہر دان میں۔

And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

یوں یرُبعام نے اسرائیلیوں کو گناہ کرنے پر اُکسایا۔ لوگ دان تک سفر کیا کرتے تھے تاکہ وہاں کے بُت کی پوجا کریں۔

And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

اِس کے علاوہ یرُبعام نے بہت سی اونچی جگہوں پر مندر بنوائے۔ اُنہیں سنبھالنے کے لئے اُس نے ایسے لوگ مقرر کئے جو لاوی کے قبیلے کے نہیں بلکہ عام لوگ تھے۔

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Beth–el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth–el the priests of the high places which he had made.

اُس نے ایک نئی عید بھی رائج کی جو یہوداہ میں منانے والی جھونپڑیوں کی عید کی مانند تھی۔ یہ عید آٹھویں ماہ کے پندرھویں دن منائی جاتی تھی۔ بیت ایل میں اُس نے خود قربان گاہ پر جا کر اپنے بنوائے ہوئے بچھڑوں کو قربانیاں پیش کیں، اور وہیں اُس نے اپنے اُن مندروں کے اماموں کو مقرر کیا جو اُس نے اونچی جگہوں پر تعمیر کئے تھے۔

So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth–el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

چنانچہ یرُبعام کے مقرر کردہ دن یعنی آٹھویں مہینے کے پندرھویں دن اسرائیلیوں نے بیت ایل میں عید منائی۔ تمام مہمانوں کے سامنے یرُبعام قربان گاہ پر چڑھ گیا تاکہ قربانیاں پیش کرے۔
