Nahum 1

The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

Detta är en utsaga om Nineve, den bok som innehåller elkositen Nahums syn.

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

 HERREN är en nitälskande Gud och en hämnare,  ja, en hämnare är HERREN, en som kan vredgas.  En hämnare är HERREN mot sina ovänner,  vrede behåller han mot sina fiender.2 Mos. 20,5. 34,14. 5 Mos. 4,24. 5,9. Jos. 24 19. Ps. 103,9.

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

 HERREN är långmodig, men han är stor i kraft,  och ingalunda låter han någon bliva ostraffad.  HERREN har sin väg i storm och oväder  och molnen äro dammet efter hans fötter.2 Mos. 34,6 f. 4 Mos. 14,18. Neh. 9,17. Ps. 18,14. 103,8. 145,8.Joel 2,13.

He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

 Han näpser havet och låter det uttorka  och alla strömmar låter han sina bort.  Då försmäkta Basan och Karmel,  Libanons grönska försmäktar.2 Mos. 14,21. Jos. 3,16. Ps. 106,9. 114,3 f. Jes. 50,2.

The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

 Bergen bäva för honom,  och höjderna försmälta av ångest.  Jorden röres upp för hans ansikte,  jordens krets med alla som bo därpå.2 Mos. 19,18. Ps. 18,8. 24,1. Joel 3,16. Am. 9,5. Mik. 1,4.

Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

 Vem kan bestå för hans ogunst,  och vem kan uthärda hans vrede glöd?  Hans förtörnelse utgjuter sig såsom eld,  och klipporna rämna inför honom.

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

 HERREN är god, ett värn i nödens tid,  och han låter sig vårda om dem som förtrösta på honom.Ps. 9,10.

But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

 Men genom en störtflod gör han ände      på platsen där den staden står,  och hans fiender förföljas av mörker.Ords. 13,21.

What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

 Ja, på edert anslag mot HERREN gör han ände,  icke två gånger behöver hemsökelsen drabba.

For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

 Ty om de ock äro hopslingrade såsom törnsnår  och så fulla av livssaft, som deras dryck är av must,  skola de likväl alla förbrännas såsom torrt strå.

There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

 Ty från dig drog ut en man      som hade onda anslag mot HERREN,  en vilkens rådslag voro fördärv.

Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

 Så säger HERREN:  »Huru starka och huru många de ock må vara,  skola de ändå mejas av och försvinna;  och om jag förr har plågat dig,  så skall jag nu ej göra det mer.Nah. 2,2.

For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

 Ty nu skall jag bryta sönder de ok han har lagt på dig,  och hans band skall jag slita av.»

And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

 Men om dig bjuder HERREN så  »Ingen avkomma av ditt namn skall mer få finnas.  Ur dina gudars hus skall jag utrota alla beläten,      både skurna och gjutna.  En grav bereder jag åt dig, ty på skam har du kommit.»

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

 Se, över bergen nalkas glädjebudbärarens fötter      hans som förkunnar frid:  »Fira dina högtider, Juda,      infria dina löften.  Ty ej mer skall fördärvaren draga fram mot dig;      han varder förgjord i grund.»Jes. 52,7. Rom. 10,15.
