Romans 4

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

Que diremos, pois, que Abraão, nosso pai segundo a carne, alcançou?

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

Porque, se Abraão foi justificado pelas obras, tem de que se gloriar, mas não diante de Deus.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Pois, que diz a Escritura? Abraão creu em Deus e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

Ora, ao que trabalha, a recompensa não é tida como graça, mas sim como dívida;

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

porém ao que não trabalha, mas crê naquele que justifica o ímpio, a sua fé é contada como justiça;

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Como também Davi descreve a bênção do homem a quem Deus imputa a justiça sem as obras,

Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

dizendo: Benditos aqueles cujas iniquidades são perdoadas, e cujos pecados são cobertos.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Bendito o homem a quem o Senhor não imputará o pecado.

Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Vem esta bênção sobre a circuncisão somente, ou também sobre a incircuncisão? Porque dizemos que a fé foi imputada a Abraão como justiça.

How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

Como, pois, lhe foi imputada? Estando na circuncisão, ou na incircuncisão? Não na circuncisão, mas sim na incircuncisão.

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

E recebeu o sinal da circuncisão, um selo da justiça da fé que ele teve sendo ainda incircunciso; para que ele fosse o pai de todos os que creem, embora não sejam circuncidados, a fim de que a justiça também lhes seja imputada,

And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

e pai dos circuncisos aos que não somente são da circuncisão, mas também andam nas pisadas daquela fé de nosso pai Abraão, que ele teve sendo ainda incircunciso.

For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Pois, a promessa de que ele seria herdeiro do mundo, não veio a Abraão, ou à sua descendência, pela lei, mas pela justiça da fé.

For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

Pois, se os que são da lei são herdeiros, logo a fé é anulada e a promessa se torna sem efeito.

Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

Porque a lei opera a ira; mas onde não há lei também não há transgressão.

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Portanto, é pela fé, para que seja pela graça; a fim de que a promessa seja firme a toda a descendência, não somente à que é da lei, mas também à que é da fé de Abraão, o qual é pai de todos nós.

(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

(como está escrito: Por pai de muitas nações te constituí) perante aquele em quem ele creu, a saber, Deus, que vivifica os mortos, e chama as coisas que não são, como se já fossem.

Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

O qual, em esperança, creu contra a esperança, para que se tornasse pai de muitas nações, conforme o que lhe fora dito: Assim será a tua descendência;

And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

e não sendo fraco na fé, não considerou seu próprio corpo já amortecido, tendo cerca de cem anos, nem o amortecimento do ventre de Sara;

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Não vacilou diante da promessa de Deus pela incredulidade; antes foi forte na fé, dando glória a Deus,

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

e estando plenamente convicto de que o que ele havia prometido, era também poderoso para o cumprir.

And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Portanto, isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.

Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

Ora, não é só por causa dele que está escrito que lhe foi imputado;

But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

mas também por causa de nós a quem há de ser imputado, se crermos naquele que ressuscitou dos mortos a Jesus nosso Senhor;

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

o qual foi entregue por causa das nossas transgressões, e foi ressuscitado para a nossa justificação.
