My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Niechaj was niewiele będzie nauczycielami, bracia moi! wiedząc, że cięższy sąd odniesiemy.

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Albowiem w wielu upadamy wszyscy; jeźli kto nie upada w słowie, ten jest doskonałym mężem, który też może na wodzy trzymać i wszystko ciało.

Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

Oto koniom wędzidła w gęby wprawujemy, aby nam powolne były i wszystkiem ciałem ich kierujemy.

Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

Oto i okręty, choć tak wielkie są i tęgiemi wiatrami pędzone bywają, wszak i najmniejszym sterem bywają kierowane, gdziekolwiek jest wola sternikowa;

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

Tak i język mały jest członek, wszakże bardzo się wynosi. Oto maluczki ogień, jako wielki las zapala!

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

I język jest ogień i świat niesprawiedliwości; takci jest postanowiony język między członkami naszemi, który szpeci wszystko ciało i zapala koło urodzenia naszego, i bywa zapalony od ognia piekielnego.

For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

Albowiem wszelkie przyrodzenie i dzikich zwierząt, i ptaków, i gadzin, i morskich potworów bywa okrócone i jest okrócone od ludzi;

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Ale języka żaden z ludzi okrócić nie może, który jest nieokrócone złe i pełne jadu śmiertelnego.

Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

Przez niego błogosławimy Boga i Ojca, i przez niego przeklinamy ludzi, którzy na podobieństwo Boże stworzeni są;

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Z jednychże ust wychodzi błogosławieństwo i przeklęstwo. Nie tak ma być, bracia moi!

Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Izali zdrój z jednego źródła wypuszcza i słodką, i gorzką wodę?

Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Izali może, bracia moi! figowe drzewo przynosić oliwki, albo winna macica figi? Tak żaden zdrój słonej i słodkiej wody oraz nie wydaje.

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Jeźli kto jest mądry i umiejętny między wami? niech pokaże dobrem obcowaniem uczynki swoje w mądrej cichości.

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Ale jeźli macie gorzką zawiść i zajątrzenie w sercu waszem, nie chlubcież się, ani kłamcie przeciwko prawdzie.

This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

Nie jestci ta mądrość z góry zstępująca, ale ziemska, bydlęca, dyjabelska.

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

Bo gdzie jest zawiść i zajątrzenie, tam i rozterki, i wszelka zła sprawa.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Ale mądrość, która jest z góry, najprzódci jest czysta, potem spokojna, mierna, powolna, pełna miłosierdzia i owoców dobrych, nieposądzająca, i nieobłudna.

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Ale owoc sprawiedliwości w pokoju bywa siany tym, którzy pokój czynią.
