II Kings 14

In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.

I Israels konge Joas', Joakas' sønns annet år blev Amasja konge; han var sønn av Judas konge Joas.

He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Han var fem og tyve år gammel da han blev konge, og regjerte ni og tyve år i Jerusalem; hans mor hette Joaddan og var fra Jerusalem.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.

Han gjorde hvad rett var i Herrens øine, men ikke som hans stamfar David; han gjorde aldeles som sin far Joas.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.

Dog blev offerhaugene ikke nedlagt; folket blev ved å ofre og brenne røkelse på haugene.

And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.

Så snart han hadde fått kongedømmet fast i sin hånd, slo han ihjel dem av sine tjenere som hadde slått ihjel hans far kongen.

But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Men mordernes barn drepte han ikke, efter det som er skrevet i Mose lovbok, hvor Herren har gitt dette bud: Foreldre skal ikke lide døden for sine barns skyld, og barn ikke lide døden for sine foreldres skyld; men enhver skal dø for sin egen synd.

He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.

Han slo Edom i Saltdalen, ti tusen mann, og inntok Sela og kalte det Jokte'el, som det heter den dag idag.

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

På den tid sendte Amasja bud til Israels konge Joas, sønn av Joakas, Jehus sønn, og lot si: Kom, la oss prøve styrke med hverandre!

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

Men Israels konge Joas sendte bud til Judas konge Amasja og svarte: Tornebusken på Libanon sendte bud til sederen på Libanon og lot si: La min sønn få din datter til hustru! Men de ville dyr på Libanon fór frem og trådte tornebusken ned.

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

Du har slått Edom, og derfor er du blitt overmodig; la dig nøie med den ære og bli hjemme! Hvorfor vil du kalle ulykken ned over dig, så du går til grunne, både du og Juda med dig?

But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth–shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

Men Amasja hørte ikke på ham. Da drog Israels konge Joas op, og han og Judas konge Amasja prøvde styrke med hverandre ved Bet-Semes, som hører til Juda.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.

Og Judas menn blev slått av Israels menn, og de flyktet hver til sitt hjem;

And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth–shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

men Judas konge Amasja, sønn av Joas, Akasjas sønn, blev tatt til fange av Israels konge Joas ved Bet-Semes. Og da de kom til Jerusalem, rev han ned et stykke av Jerusalems mur, fra Efra'im-porten til Hjørneporten, fire hundre alen.

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.

Og han tok alt det gull og sølv og alle de kar som fantes i Herrens hus og i skattkammerne i kongens hus, og dessuten gislene; sa vendte han tilbake til Samaria.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Joas, om det han gjorde, og om hans store gjerninger og hans krig med Judas konge Amasja, det er opskrevet i Israels kongers krønike.

And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

Og Joas la sig til hvile hos sine fedre og blev begravet i Samaria hos Israels konger, og hans sønn Jeroboam blev konge i hans sted.

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

Judas konge Amasja, Joas' sønn, levde femten år efterat Israels konge Joas, Joakas' sønn, var død.

Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

De gjorde en sammensvergelse mot ham i Jerusalem, og han flyktet til Lakis; men de sendte folk efter ham til Lakis og drepte ham der.

And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

Så kjørte de ham derfra med hester, og han blev begravet i Jerusalem hos sine fedre i Davids stad.

And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

Og alt Judas folk tok og gjorde Asarja, som da var seksten år gammel, til konge i hans far Amasjas sted.

He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

Han gjorde Elat til en fast by og vant det tilbake for Juda, efterat kongen hadde lagt sig til hvile hos sine fedre.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.

I Judas konge Amasjas, Joas' sønns femtende år blev Jeroboam, sønn av Israels konge Joas, konge i Samaria, og han regjerte i en og firti år.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

Han gjorde hvad ondt var i Herrens øine; han vek ikke fra nogen av de synder som Jeroboam, Nebats sønn, hadde gjort og fått Israel til å gjøre.

He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath–hepher.

Han vant tilbake Israels landemerker fra der hvor veien går til Hamat, og like til Ødemarks-havet, efter det ord som Herren, Israels Gud, hadde talt ved sin tjener profeten Jonas, Amittais sønn, fra Gat-Hefer.

For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

For Herren hadde sett at Israel var stedt i bitter nød, og det var ute både med store og små, og Israel hadde ingen hjelper.

And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

Og Herren hadde ikke sagt at han vilde utslette Israels navn under himmelen; derfor frelste han dem ved Jeroboam, Joas' sønn.

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Jeroboam, om alt det han gjorde, og om hans store gjerninger, hvilke kriger han førte, og hvorledes han vant tilbake til Israel den del av Damaskus og Hamat som før hadde tilhørt Juda, det er opskrevet i Israels kongers krønike.

And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.

Og Jeroboam la sig til hvile hos sine fedre, hos Israels konger, og hans sønn Sakarja blev konge i hans sted.
