Joshua 10

Now it came to pass, when Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

इस समय अदोनीसेदेक यरूशलेम का राजा था। इस राजा ने सुना कि यहोशू ने ऐ को जीता है और इसे पूरी तरह नष्ट कर दिया है। राजा को यह पता चला कि यहोशू ने यरीहो और उसके राजा के साथ भी यही किया है। राजा को यह भी जानकारी मिली कि गिबोन ने इस्राएल के साथ, शान्ति—सन्धि कर ली है और वे लोग यरूशलेम के बहुत निकट रहते थे।

That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

अत: अदोनीसेदेक और उसके लोग इन घटनाओं के कारण बहुत भयभीत थे। गिबोन ऐ की तरह छोटा नगर नहीं था। गिबोन एक शाही नगर जैसा बहुत बड़ा नगर था। और नगर के सभी पुरुष अच्छे योद्धा थे। अत: राजा भयभीत था।

Wherefore Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

यरूशलेम के राजा अदोनीसेदेक ने हेब्रोन के राजा होहाम से बातें कीं। उसने यर्मूत के राजा पिराम, लाकीश के राजा यापी, एग्लोन के राजा दबीर से भी बातचीत की। यरूशलेम के राजा ने इन व्यक्तियों से प्रार्थना की,

Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

“मेरे साथ आएं और गिबोन पर आक्रमण करने में मेरी सहायता करें। गिबोन ने यहोशू और इस्राएल के लोगों के साथ शान्ति सन्धि कर ली है।”

Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

इस प्रकार पाँच एमोरी राजाओं ने सेनाओं को मिलाया। (ये पाँचों यरूशलेम के राजा, हेब्रोन के राजा, यर्मूत के राजा, लाकीश के राजा, और एग्लोन के राजा थे।) वे सेनायें गिबोन गईं। सेनाओं ने नगर को घेर लिया और इसके विरूद्ध युद्ध करना आरम्भ किया।

And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

गिबोन नगर में रहने वाले लोगों ने गिलगाल के डेरे में यहोशू को खबर भेजी: “हम तुम्हारे सेवक हैं! हम लोगों को अकेले न छोड़ो। आओ और हमारी रक्षा करो! शीघ्रता करो! हमें बचाओ! पहाड़ी प्रदेशों के सभी एमोरी राजा अपनी सेनायें एक कर चुके हैं। वे हमारे विरुद्ध युद्ध कर रहे हैं।”

So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

इसलिए यहोशू गिलगाल से अपनी पूरी सेना के साथ युद्ध के लिये चला। यहोशू के उत्तम योद्धा उसके साथ थे।

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा, “उन सेनाओं से डरो नहीं । मैं तुम्हें उनको पराजित करने दूँगा। उन सेनाओं में से कोई भी तुमको हराने में समर्थ नहीं होगा।”

Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

यहोशू और उसकी सेना रात भर गिबोन की ओर बढ़ती रही। शत्रु को पता नहीं था कि यहोशू आ रहा है। इसलिए जब उसने आक्रमण किया तो वे चौंक पड़े।

And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth–horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

यहोवा ने उन सेनाओं को, इस्रएल की सेनाओं द्वारा आक्रमण के समय, किंकर्तव्य विमूढ़ कर दिया। इसलिये इस्रालियों ने उन्हें हरा कर भारी विजय पायी। इस्राएलियों ने पीछा करके उन्हें गिबोन से खदेड़ दिया। उन्होंने बेथोरोन तक जाने वाली सड़क तक उनका पीछा किया। इस्राएल की सेना ने अजेका और मक्केदा तक के पूरे रास्ते में पुरुषों को मारा।

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth–horon, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

इस्राएल की सेना ने बेथोरोन अजेका को जाने वाली सड़क तक शत्रुओं का पीछा किया। जब वे शत्रु का पीछा कर रहे थे तो यहोवा ने भारी ओलों की वर्षा आकाश से की। बहुत से शत्रु इन भारी ओलो से मर गए। इन ओसों से उससे अधिक शत्रु मारे गए जितने इस्राएलियों ने अपनी तलवारों से मारे थे।

Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

उस दिन यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों द्वारा एमोरी लोगों को पराजित होने दिया और उस दिन यहोशू इस्राएल के सभी लोगों के सामने खड़ा हुआ और उसने यहोवा से कहाः “हे सूर्य, गिबोन के आसमान में खड़े रह और हट नहीं। हे चन्द्र तू अय्यालोन की घाटी के ऊपर आसमान में खड़े रह और हट नहीं।”

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

सूर्य स्थिर हो गया और चन्द्रमा ने भी तब तक चलना छोड़ दिया जब तक लोगों ने अपने शत्रुओं को पराजित नहीं कर दिया। यह सचमुच हुआ, यह कथा *याशार की किताब* में लिखी है। सूर्य आसमान के मध्य रुका। यह पूरे दिन वहाँ से नहीं हटा।

And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

ऐसा उस दिन के पहले किसी भी समय कभी नहीं हुआ था और तब से अब तक कभी नहीं हुआ है। वही दिन था, जब यहोवा ने मनुष्य की प्रार्थना मानी। वास्तव में यहोवा इस्राएलियों के लिये युद्ध कर रहा था!

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

इसके बाद, यहोशू और उसकी सेना गिलगाल के डेरे में वापस हुई।

But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

युद्ध के समय पाँचों राजा भाग गए। वे मक्केदा के निकट गुफा में छिप गए।

And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

किन्तु किसी ने पाँचों राजाओं को गुफा में छिपे पाया। यहोशू को इस बारे में पता चला।

And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

यहोशू ने कहा, “गुफा को जाने वाले द्वार को बड़ी शिलाओं से ढक दो। कुछ पुरुषों को गुफा की रखवाली के लिये वहाँ रखो।

And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

किन्तु वहाँ स्वयं न रहो। शत्रु का पीछा करते रहो। उन पर पीछे से आक्रमण करते रहो। शत्रुओं को अपने नगर तक सुरक्षित न पहुँचने दो। तुम्हारे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तुम्हें उन पर विजय दी है।”

And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

इस प्रकार यहोशू और इस्राएल के लोगों ने शत्रु को मार डाला। किन्तु शत्रुओं में से जो कुछ अपने सुदृढ़ परकोटों से घिरे नगरों में पहुँच जाने में सफल हो गए और छिप गए। वे व्यक्ति नहीं मारे गए।

And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

युद्ध के बाद, यहोशू के सैनिक मक्केदा में उनके पास आए। उस प्रदेश में किसी भी जाति के लोगों में से कोई भी इतना साहसी नहीं था कि वह लोगों के विरुद्ध कुछ कह सके।

Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

यहोशू ने कहा, “गुफा के द्वार को रोकने वाली शिलाओं को हटाओ। उन पाँचों राजाओं को मेरे पास लाओ।”

And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

इसलिए यहोशू के लोग पाँचों राजाओं को गुफा से बाहर लाए। ये पाँचों यरूशलेम, हेब्रोन, यर्मूत, लाकीश और एग्लोन के राजा थे।

And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

अत: वे उन पाँचों राजाओं को यहोशू के पास लाए। यहोशू ने अपने सभी लोगों को वहाँ आने के लिये कहा। यहोशू ने सेना के अधिकारियों से कहा, “यहाँ आओ! इन राजाओं के गले पर अपने पैर रखो।” इसलिए यहोशू की सेना के अधिकारी निकट आए। उन्होंने राजाओं के गले पर अपने पैर रखे।

And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

तब यहोशू ने अपने सैनिकों से कहा, “दृढ़ और साहसी बनो! डरो नहीं! मैं दिखाऊँगा कि यहोवा उन शत्रुओं के साथ क्या करेगा, जिनसे तुम भविष्य में युद्ध करोगे।”

And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

तब यहोशू ने पाँचों राजाओं को मार डाला। उसने उनके शव पाँच पेड़ों पर लटकाये। यहोशू ने उन्हें सूरज ढलने तक वहीं लटकते छोड़े रखा।

And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.

सूरज ढले को यहोशू ने अपने लोगों से शवों को पेड़ों से उतारने को कहा। तब उन्होंने उन शवों को उस गुफा में फेंक दिया जिसमें वे छिपे थे। उन्होंने गुफा के द्वार को बड़ी शिलाओं से ढक दिया। जो आज तक वहाँ हैं।

And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

उस दिन यहोशू ने मक्केदा को हराया। यहोशू ने राजा और उस नगर के लोगों को मार डाला। वहाँ कोई व्यक्ति जीवित न छोड़ा गया। यहोशू ने मक्केदा के राजा के साथ भी वही किया जो उसने यरीहो के राजा के साथ किया था।

Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोगों ने मक्केदा से यात्रा की। वे लिब्ना गए और उस नगर पर आक्रमण किया।

And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

यहोवा ने इस्राएल के लोगों को उस नगर और उसके राजा को पराजित करने दिया। इस्राएल के लोगों ने उस नगर के हर एक व्यक्ति को मार डाला। कोई व्यक्ति जीवित नहीं छोड़ा गया और लोगों ने राजा के साथ वही किया जो उन्होंने यरीहो के राजा के साथ किया था।

And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोगों ने लिब्ना को छोड़ा और उन्होंने लाकीश तक की यात्रा की। यहोशू और उसकी सेना ने लिब्ना के चारों ओर डेरे डाले और तब उन्होंने नगर पर आक्रमण किया।

And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

यहोवा ने इस्राएल के लोगों द्वारा लाकीश नगर को पराजित करने दिया। दूसरे दिन उन्होंने उस नगर को हराया। इस्राएल के लोगों ने इस नगर के हर एक व्यक्ति को मार डाला यह वैसा ही था जैसा उसने लिब्ना में किया था।

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

इसी समय गेजेर का राजा होरोम लाकीश की सहायता करने आया। किन्तु यहोशू ने उसे और उसकी सेना को भी हराया। कोई व्यक्ति जीवित नहीं छोड़ा गया।

And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोग लाकीश से एग्लोन गए। उन्होंने एग्लोन के चारों ओर डेरे डाले और उस पर आक्रमण किया।

And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

उस दिन उन्होंने नगर पर अधिकार किया और नगर के सभी लोगों को मार डाला। यह वैसा ही किया जैसा उन्होंने लाकीश में किया था।

And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोगों ने एग्लोन से हेब्रोन की यात्रा की। उन्होंने हेब्रोन पर आक्रमण किया।

And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

उन्होंने नगर तथा हेब्रोन के निकट के सभी छोटे उपनगरों पर अधिकार कर लिया। इस्राएल के लोगों ने नगर के हर एक व्यक्ति को मार डाला। वहाँ कोई भी जीवित नहीं छोड़ा गया। यह वैसा ही था जैसा उन्होंने एग्लोन में किया था। उन्होंने नगर को नष्ट किया और उसके सभी व्यक्तियों को मार डाला।

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोग दबीर को गए और उस नगर पर आक्रमण किया।

And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

उन्होंने उस नगर, उसके राजा और दबीर के निकट के सभी उपनगरों को जीता। उन्होंने उस नगर के सभी लोगों को मार डाला वहाँ कोई जीवित नहीं छोड़ा गया। इस्राएल के लोगों ने दबीर और उसके राजा के साथ वही किया जो उन्होंने हेब्रोन और उसके राजा के साथ किया था। यह वैसा ही था जैसा उन्होंने लिब्ना और उसके राजा के साथ किया था।

So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

इस प्रकार यहोशू ने पहाड़ी प्रदेश नेगेव पश्चिमी और पूर्वी पहाड़ियों और तराई के नगरों के राजाओं को हराया। इस्राएल के परमेश्वर यहोवा ने यहोशू से सभी लोगों को मार डालने को कहा था। इसलिए यहोशू ने उन स्थानों पर किसी को जीवित नहीं छोड़ा।

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh–barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

यहोशू ने कादेशबर्ने से अज्जा तक के सभी नगरों पर अधिकार कर लिया। उसने मिस्र में गोशेन की धरती से लेकर गिबोन तक के सभी नगरों पर कब्जा कर लिया।

And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

यहोशू ने एक अभियान में उन नगरों और उनके राजाओं को जीत लिया। यहोशू ने यह इसलिए किया कि इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा इस्राएल के लिये लड़ रहा था।

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

तब यहोशू और इस्राएल के सभी लोग गिलगाल के अपने डेरे में लौट आए।
