The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

Ausspruch über Ninive. Das Buch des Gesichtes Nahums, des Elkoschiters.

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

Ein eifernder und rächender Gott ist Jehova, ein Rächer ist Jehova und voll von Grimm; Jehova übt Rache an seinen Widersachern und trägt seinen Feinden nach.

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Jehova ist langsam zum Zorn und groß an Kraft, und er hält keineswegs für schuldlos den Schuldigen. Jehova-im Sturmwind und im Gewitter ist sein Weg, und Gewölk ist der Staub seiner Füße.

He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

Er schilt das Meer und legt es trocken, und alle Flüsse macht er versiegen; Basan und Karmel verwelken, und es verwelkt die Blüte des Libanon.

The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

Vor ihm erbeben die Berge und zerfließen die Hügel, und vor seinem Angesicht erhebt sich die Erde und der Erdkreis und alle, die darauf wohnen.

Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

Wer kann vor seinem Grimme bestehen, und wer standhalten bei der Glut seines Zornes? Sein Grimm ergießt sich wie Feuer, und die Felsen werden von ihm zerrissen.

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Jehova ist gütig, er ist eine Feste am Tage der Drangsal; und er kennt die, welche auf ihn vertrauen

But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Und mit einer überschwemmenden Flut wird er ihre Stätte gänzlich zerstören, und Finsternis wird seine Feinde verfolgen.

What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

Was sinnet ihr wider Jehova? Er wird gänzlich zerstören; die Drangsal wird nicht zweimal erstehen.

For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

Denn wären sie gar wie Dornen verflochten und von ihrem edlen Weine berauscht, sie sollen völlig verzehrt werden wie dürre Stoppeln.

There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

Von dir ist ausgegangen, der Böses sann wider Jehova, ein nichtswürdiger Ratgeber.

Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

So spricht Jehova: Wenn sie gleich unversehrt und noch so zahlreich sind, auch so sollen sie weggemäht werden; und er wird dahin sein. -Und habe ich dich auch niedergebeugt, ich werde dich nicht mehr niederbeugen;

For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

sondern ich werde nun sein Joch von dir zerbrechen und deine Bande zerreißen. -

And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

Und über dich hat Jehova geboten, daß von deinem Namen nicht mehr gesät werden soll; aus dem Hause deines Gottes werde ich das geschnitzte und das gegossene Bild ausrotten; ich werde dir ein Grab machen, denn verächtlich bist du

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

Siehe, auf den Bergen die Füße dessen, der gute Botschaft bringt, der Frieden verkündigt! Feiere, Juda, deine Feste, bezahle deine Gelübde! denn der Nichtswürdige wird fortan nicht mehr durch dich ziehen; er ist ganz ausgerottet.
