Ecclesiastes 11

Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

به دیگران نیکی کنید، زیرا نیکی کردن پاداش دارد.

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

چیزی را که می‌بخشید آن را به هفت یا هشت نفر تقسیم کنید، چون نمی‌دانید چه پیش می‌آید.

If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

وقتی ابر پر شود، باران بر زمین می‌بارد. درخت از هر طرف که بیفتد در همان‌جا که افتاده است، باقی می‌ماند.

He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

دهقانی که منتظر هوای مناسب باشد، نه چیزی می‌کارد و نه چیزی درو می‌کند.

As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

کارهای خدا را که خالق همه‌چیز است، کسی درک نکرده است. همچنین کسی نمی‌داند که باد چگونه می‌وزد و یا طفل چگونه در رحم مادر حیات می‌یابد.

In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

روز و شب به کشت و کار بپردازید، زیرا نمی‌دانید که کشت، کدام وقت ثمر می‌دهد، ممکن است همهٔ آنها ثمر بیاورند.

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:

زندگی شیرین و نور آفتاب دلپذیر است

But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

پس برای هر سالی که زندگی می‌کنید، شکرگزار باشید و از آن لذّت ببرید. بدانید که روزهای تاریکی در پیش رو خواهید داشت و سرانجام خواهید مرد و امیدی برایتان باقی نخواهد ماند.

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

ای جوان، روزهای جوانیّت را خوش بگذران و از آنها لذّت ببر. هرچه چشمت می‌بیند و دلت می‌خواهد انجام بده، امّا فراموش مکن که برای هر کاری باید به خدا جواب بدهی.

Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

غم و درد را در دلت راه مده، زیرا دوران جوانی کوتاه و زودگذر است.
