I Corinthians 13

Wenn ich mit den Sprachen der Menschen und der Engel rede, aber nicht Liebe habe, so bin ich ein tönendes Erz geworden oder eine schallende Zimbel.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Und wenn ich Prophezeiung habe und alle Geheimnisse und alle Erkenntnis weiß, und wenn ich allen Glauben habe, so daß ich Berge versetze, aber nicht Liebe habe, so bin ich nichts.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Und wenn ich alle meine Habe zur Speisung der Armen austeilen werde, und wenn ich meinen Leib hingebe, auf daß ich verbrannt werde, aber nicht Liebe habe, so ist es mir nichts nütze.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Die Liebe ist langmütig, ist gütig; die Liebe neidet nicht; die Liebe tut nicht groß, sie bläht sich nicht auf,

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

sie gebärdet sich nicht unanständig, sie sucht nicht das Ihrige, sie läßt sich nicht erbittern, sie rechnet Böses nicht zu,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

sie freut sich nicht der Ungerechtigkeit, sondern sie freut sich mit der Wahrheit,

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

sie erträgt alles, sie glaubt alles, sie hofft alles, sie erduldet alles.

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Die Liebe vergeht nimmer; seien es aber Prophezeiungen, sie werden weggetan werden; seien es Sprachen, sie werden aufhören; sei es Erkenntnis, sie wird weggetan werden.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Denn wir erkennen stückweise, und wir prophezeien stückweise;

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

wenn aber das Vollkommene gekommen sein wird, so wird das, was stückweise ist, weggetan werden.

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Als ich ein Kind war, redete ich wie ein Kind, dachte wie ein Kind, urteilte wie ein Kind; als ich ein Mann wurde, tat ich weg, was kindisch war.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Denn wir sehen jetzt durch einen Spiegel, undeutlich, dann aber von Angesicht zu Angesicht. Jetzt erkenne ich stückweise, dann aber werde ich erkennen gleichwie auch ich erkannt worden bin.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Nun aber bleibt Glaube, Hoffnung, Liebe, diese drei; die größte aber von diesen ist die Liebe.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
