Deuteronomy 5

Moïse convoqua tout Israël, et leur dit: Ecoute, Israël, les lois et les ordonnances que je vous fais entendre aujourd'hui. Apprenez-les, et mettez-les soigneusement en pratique.

And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

L'Eternel, notre Dieu, a traité avec nous une alliance à Horeb.

The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

Ce n'est point avec nos pères que l'Eternel a traité cette alliance; c'est avec nous, qui sommes ici aujourd'hui, tous vivants.

The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

L'Eternel vous parla face à face sur la montagne, du milieu du feu.

The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

Je me tins alors entre l'Eternel et vous, pour vous annoncer la parole de l'Eternel; car vous aviez peur du feu, et vous ne montâtes point sur la montagne. Il dit:

(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

Je suis l'Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.

I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux devant ma face.

Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

Tu ne te feras point d'image taillée, de représentation quelconque des choses qui sont en haut dans les cieux, qui sont en bas sur la terre, et qui sont dans les eaux plus bas que la terre.

Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles, et tu ne les serviras point; car moi, l'Eternel, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui punis l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu'à la troisième et à la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,

Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

et qui fais miséricorde jusqu'en mille générations à ceux qui m'aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Tu ne prendras point le nom de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, en vain; car l'Eternel ne laissera point impuni celui qui prendra son nom en vain.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Observe le jour du repos, pour le sanctifier, comme l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te l'a ordonné.

Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage.

Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l'Eternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton boeuf, ni ton âne, ni aucune de tes bêtes, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes, afin que ton serviteur et ta servante se reposent comme toi.

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave au pays d'Egypte, et que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, t'en a fait sortir à main forte et à bras étendu: c'est pourquoi l'Eternel, ton Dieu, t'a ordonné d'observer le jour du repos.

And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

Honore ton père et ta mère, comme l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te l'a ordonné, afin que tes jours se prolongent et que tu sois heureux dans le pays que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donne.

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Tu ne tueras point.

Thou shalt not kill.

Tu ne commettras point d'adultère.

Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

Tu ne déroberas point.

Neither shalt thou steal.

Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.

Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain; tu ne désireras point la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son boeuf, ni son âne, ni aucune chose qui appartienne à ton prochain.

Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Telles sont les paroles que prononça l'Eternel à haute voix sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, des nuées et de l'obscurité, et qu'il adressa à toute votre assemblée, sans rien ajouter. Il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre, qu'il me donna.

These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

Lorsque vous eûtes entendu la voix du milieu des ténèbres, et tandis que la montagne était toute en feu, vos chefs de tribus et vos anciens s'approchèrent tous de moi,

And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

et vous dîtes: Voici, l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous a montré sa gloire et sa grandeur, et nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu du feu; aujourd'hui, nous avons vu que Dieu a parlé à des hommes, et qu'ils sont demeurés vivants.

And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

Et maintenant pourquoi mourrions-nous? car ce grand feu nous dévorera; si nous continuons à entendre la voix de l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous mourrons.

Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

Quel est l'homme, en effet, qui ait jamais entendu, comme nous, la voix du Dieu vivant parlant du milieu du feu, et qui soit demeuré vivant?

For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

Approche, toi, et écoute tout ce que dira l'Eternel, notre Dieu; tu nous rapporteras toi-même tout ce que te dira l'Eternel, notre Dieu; nous l'écouterons, et nous le ferons.

Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

L'Eternel entendit les paroles que vous m'adressâtes. Et l'Eternel me dit: J'ai entendu les paroles que ce peuple t'a adressées: tout ce qu'ils ont dit est bien.

And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

Oh! s'ils avaient toujours ce même coeur pour me craindre et pour observer tous mes commandements, afin qu'ils fussent heureux à jamais, eux et leurs enfants!

O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

Va, dis-leur: Retournez dans vos tentes.

Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

Mais toi, reste ici avec moi, et je te dirai tous les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances, que tu leur enseigneras, afin qu'ils les mettent en pratique dans le pays dont je leur donne la possession.

But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

Vous ferez avec soin ce que l'Eternel, votre Dieu, vous a ordonné; vous ne vous en détournerez ni à droite, ni à gauche.

Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

Vous suivrez entièrement la voie que l'Eternel, votre Dieu, vous a prescrite, afin que vous viviez et que vous soyez heureux, afin que vous prolongiez vos jours dans le pays dont vous aurez la possession.

Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
