Isaiah 49

ای ملّتهای جزایر دوردست، و ای مردمی که در جایهای دور زندگی می‌کنید، گوش دهید! قبل از تولّدم، خداوند مرا برگزید و مرا منصوب کرد تا بندهٔ او باشم.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

او کلمات مرا مثل شمشیر تیز کرده و با دست خود از من حمایت نموده است. او مرا مثل پیکانی تیز، برای استفاده آماده ساخت.

And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

او به من گفت: «ای اسرائیل، تو بندهٔ من هستی؛ و به‌خاطر تو، مردم مرا ستایش می‌کنند.»

And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

من در پاسخ گفتم: «من سخت کوشیدم، ولی ناامیدم! با تمام نیرو سعی کردم، ولی هیچ توفیقی نداشتم.» با وجود این، من به خداوند اعتماد دارم و او از من دفاع خواهد کرد، او پاداش زحمت مرا خواهد داد.

Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.

قبل از تولّدم، خداوند مرا انتخاب کرد؛ و او مرا به عنوان بندهٔ خود مأمور ساخت که قومش را بازگردانم، و اقوام پراکندهٔ اسرائیل را به وطن خودشان برسانم. خداوند به من چنین لطف کرده است، او سرچشمهٔ قدرت من است.

And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.

خداوند به من می‌گوید: «ای بندهٔ من، برایت وظیفهٔ بزرگتری دارم. تو نه فقط عظمت قوم اسرائیل -‌آنها که زنده‌اند- را برمی‌گردانی، بلکه من تو را نور تمام ملّتهای جهان خواهم ساخت، تا اینکه تمام دنیا نجات یابد.»

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

خدای قدّوس و نجات‌دهنده اسرائیل به آن کس که شدیداً مورد نفرت است، تمام ملّتها و حکّام آنها که از او متنفّرند، چنین می‌گوید: «وقتی پادشاهان ببینند تو آزاد شده‌ای به احترام برخواهند خاست، شاهزادگان هم آن را می‌بینند و به احترام خَم شده تعظیم می‌کنند.» تمام اینها واقع خواهد شد، چون خداوند بندهٔ خود را برگزیده است. خدای قدّوس اسرائیل در وعده‌‌های خود امین است.

Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

خداوند به قوم خود می‌گوید: «وقتی زمان نجات شما فرا رسد، به شما لطف خواهم کرد، و به فریادهای شما برای کمک پاسخ خواهم داد. من حافظ و حامی تو خواهم بود، و به وسیلهٔ تو پیمانی با تمام ملّتها می‌بندم. من می‌گذارم یک‌بار دیگر در سرزمین خود که اکنون ویران است ساکن شوی.

Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

من به اسیران و به آنها که در سیاه‌چالها زندانی هستند می‌گویم 'آزاد شوید، وارد نور شوید!' آنها مانند گوسفندانی هستند که در دامنهٔ تپّه‌ها می‌چرند،

That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

آنها هیچ‌وقت گرسنه و تشنه نخواهند بود. خورشید و گرمای بیابان به آنها آزاری نمی‌رساند، چون آنها به وسیلهٔ کسی رهبری می‌شوند که آنها را دوست دارد. او آنها را در کنار چشمه‌‌های آب روان رهبری خواهد کرد.

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

«من شاهراهی در امتداد کوهستان‌ها خواهم ساخت، و راهی برای عبور قوم خودم آماده خواهم کرد.

And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.

قوم من از سرزمینهای دوردست -‌از شمال و مغرب و از آسوان در جنوب- می‌آیند.»

Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

ای آسمانها بسرایید! ای زمین فریاد شادی برآور! ای کوهها با صدای بلند بسرایید! خداوند به قوم خودش تسلّی خواهد داد، او به قوم رنجدیدهٔ خود رحم خواهد کرد.

Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

امّا مردم اورشلیم گفتند: «خداوند ما را ترک و فراموش کرده است.»

But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

پس خداوند در پاسخ می‌گوید: «آیا مادری می‌تواند کودک نوزاد خود را فراموش کند؟ و فرزندی را که خودش به دنیا آورده، دوست نداشته باشد؟ حتّی اگر یک مادر فرزند خود را فراموش کند، من هرگز تو را فراموش نخواهم کرد.

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

ای اورشلیم، هیچ‌وقت نمی‌توانم تو را فراموش کنم! من اسم تو را در کف دستهای خود نوشته‌ام.

Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

«آنها که تو را بازسازی می‌کنند، بزودی می‌آیند، و کسانی‌که تو را ویران کردند، خواهند رفت.

Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.

به اطراف نگاه کن و ببین چه چیزی در حال وقوع است! مردم تو دور هم جمع می‌شوند و به طرف خانه‌های خود می‌آیند! به حیات خودم سوگند، که تو از مردم خودت مفتخر خواهی بود، همان‌طور که یک عروس به جواهرات خود افتخار می‌کند.

Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.

«کشورت ویران و متروک شده بود، امّا اکنون گنجایش کافی برای اسکان همهٔ آنهایی که می‌آیند، نخواهد داشت. و آنها که باعث ویرانی بودند از میان تو طرد خواهند شد.

For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.

کسانی از قوم تو که در تبعید به دنیا آمده‌اند، روزی به تو خواهند گفت: 'این سرزمین بسیار کوچک است، ما جای بیشتری برای زندگی احتیاج داریم.'

The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.

آنگاه تو به خود خواهی گفت: 'چه کسی همهٔ این فرزندان را برای من به دنیا آورده‌ است؟ من فرزندانم را از دست داده بودم و دیگر نمی‌توانستم فرزندی داشته باشم. مرا به تبعید برده بودند، چه کسی این بچّه‌ها را بزرگ کرد؟ من تک و تنها بودم، این بچّه‌‌ها از کجا آمد‌ه‌اند؟'»

Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

خداوند متعال به قوم خود می‌گوید: «من به ملّتها علامتی می‌دهم و آنها فرزندان تو را به خانهٔ خود خواهند برد.

Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.

پادشاهان مثل پدر با شما رفتار خواهند کرد، و ملکه‌‌ها مثل مادر شما، خواهند بود. آنها در مقابل شما خَم می‌شوند و به شما احترام می‌گذارند، آنها با فروتنی و احترام، خودشان را به شما نشان خواهند داد. آنگاه شما خواهید دانست که من خداوند هستم، و کسی‌که در انتظار کمک من است، ناامید نخواهد شد.»

And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.

آیا می‌توانید آنچه را که یک سرباز به یغما برده، از او پس بگیرید؟ آیا می‌توانید زندانی‌ها را از چنگ یک حاکم ستمکار خلاص کنید؟

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

خداوند در جواب می‌گوید: «این است آنچه واقع خواهد شد. اسیران از دست سرباز آزاد می‌شوند، و آنچه حاکم ستمکار به یغما برده از او گرفته خواهد شد. من با کسانی‌که با شما می‌جنگند، خواهم جنگید، و فرزندان تو را رها خواهم کرد.

But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

من کسانی را که به تو ظلم کرده‌اند، وادار می‌کنم یکدیگر را بکشند، و آنها از قتل و انتقام سرمست خواهند شد. آنگاه تمام انسانها خواهند دانست که من -‌کسی‌که شما را نجات می‌دهد و آزاد می‌کند- خداوند هستم. آنها خواهند دانست که من خدای قادر اسرائیل هستم.»

And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
