А филистимците се биха срещу Израил; и израилевите мъже побягнаха пред филистимците и паднаха убити на хълма Гелвуе.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

И филистимците настигнаха Саул и синовете му и филистимците убиха Йонатан, Авинадав и Мелхисуя, синовете на Саул.

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi–shua, the sons of Saul.

И битката срещу Саул се засилваше, и стрелците го улучиха, и той беше ранен от стрелците.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

Тогава Саул каза на оръженосеца си: Изтегли меча си и ме прободи с него, за да не дойдат тези необрязани и да се гаврят с мен! Но оръженосецът му не искаше, защото много се страхуваше. Тогава Саул взе меча си и се хвърли върху него.

Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

И когато оръженосецът му видя, че Саул беше мъртъв, той също се хвърли върху меча и умря.

And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

Така умряха Саул и тримата му сина, и целият му дом умря едновременно с него.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

А когато всичките израилеви мъже, които бяха в долината, видяха, че бяха побягнали и че Саул и синовете му бяха мъртви, те напуснаха градовете си и избягаха. И филистимците дойдоха и се заселиха в тях.

And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

А на следващия ден филистимците дойдоха да съблекат убитите и намериха Саул и синовете му паднали на хълма Гелвуе.

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

И го съблякоха, взеха главата му и оръжията му, и разпратиха по цялата филистимска земя, за да разнесат вестта на идолите си и на народа.

And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

И сложиха оръжията му в дома на бога си, а главата му приковаха в дома на Дагон.

And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

А когато целият Явис-Галаад чу всичко, което филистимците направили със Саул,

And when all Jabesh–gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

всичките храбри мъже станаха и взеха тялото на Саул и телата на синовете му и ги донесоха в Явис, и погребаха костите им под дъба в Явис, и постиха седем дни.

They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

Така умря Саул за престъплението си, което беше извършил против ГОСПОДА относно ГОСПОДНОТО слово, което не спази, и още, понеже беше потърсил врачка, за да се допита,

So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

а до ГОСПОДА не се допита. Затова Той го уби и обърна царството към Давид, сина на Есей.

And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
