Daniel 1

شاہِ یہوداہ یہویقیم کی سلطنت کے تیسرے سال میں شاہِ بابل نبوکدنضر نے یروشلم آ کر اُس کا محاصرہ کیا۔

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

اُس وقت رب نے یہویقیم اور اللہ کے گھر کا کافی سامان نبوکدنضر کے حوالے کر دیا۔ نبوکدنضر نے یہ چیزیں ملکِ بابل میں لے جا کر اپنے دیوتا کے مندر کے خزانے میں محفوظ کر دیں۔

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

پھر اُس نے اپنے دربار کے اعلیٰ افسر اشپناز کو حکم دیا، ”یہوداہ کے شاہی خاندان اور اونچے طبقے کے خاندانوں کی تفتیش کرو۔ اُن میں سے کچھ ایسے نوجوانوں کو چن کر لے آؤ

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

جو بےعیب، خوب صورت، حکمت کے ہر لحاظ سے سمجھ دار، تعلیم یافتہ اور سمجھنے میں تیز ہوں۔ غرض یہ آدمی شاہی محل میں خدمت کرنے کے قابل ہوں۔ اُنہیں بابل کی زبان لکھنے اور بولنے کی تعلیم دو۔“

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

بادشاہ نے مقرر کیا کہ روزانہ اُنہیں شاہی باورچی خانے سے کتنا کھانا اور مَے ملنی ہے۔ تین سال کی تربیت کے بعد اُنہیں بادشاہ کی خدمت کے لئے حاضر ہونا تھا۔

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

جب اِن نوجوانوں کو چنا گیا تو چار آدمی اُن میں شامل تھے جن کے نام دانیال، حننیاہ، میسائیل اور عزریاہ تھے۔

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

دربار کے اعلیٰ افسر نے اُن کے نئے نام رکھے۔ دانیال بیل طَشَضَر میں بدل گیا، حننیاہ سدرک میں، میسائیل میسک میں اور عزریاہ عبدنجو میں۔

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego.

لیکن دانیال نے مصمم ارادہ کر لیا کہ مَیں اپنے آپ کو شاہی کھانا کھانے اور شاہی مَے پینے سے ناپاک نہیں کروں گا۔ اُس نے دربار کے اعلیٰ افسر سے اِن چیزوں سے پرہیز کرنے کی اجازت مانگی۔

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

اللہ نے پہلے سے اِس افسر کا دل نرم کر دیا تھا، اِس لئے وہ دانیال کا خاص لحاظ کرتا اور اُس پر مہربانی کرتا تھا۔

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

لیکن دانیال کی درخواست سن کر اُس نے جواب دیا، ”مجھے اپنے آقا بادشاہ سے ڈر ہے۔ اُن ہی نے متعین کیا کہ تمہیں کیا کیا کھانا اور پینا ہے۔ اگر اُنہیں پتا چلے کہ تم دوسرے نوجوانوں کی نسبت دُبلے پتلے اور کمزور لگے تو وہ میرا سر قلم کریں گے۔“

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

تب دانیال نے اُس نگران سے بات کی جسے دربار کے اعلیٰ افسر نے دانیال، حننیاہ، میسائیل اور عزریاہ پر مقرر کیا تھا۔ وہ بولا،

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

”ذرا دس دن تک اپنے خادموں کو آزمائیں۔ اِتنے میں ہمیں کھانے کے لئے صرف ساگ پات اور پینے کے لئے پانی دیجئے۔

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

اِس کے بعد ہماری صورت کا مقابلہ اُن دیگر نوجوانوں کے ساتھ کریں جو شاہی کھانا کھاتے ہیں۔ پھر اِس کے مدِ نظر فیصلہ کریں کہ آئندہ آپ اپنے خادموں کو اجازت دیں گے کہ نہیں۔“

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

نگران مان گیا۔ دس دن تک وہ اُنہیں ساگ پات کھلا کر اور پانی پلا کر آزماتا رہا۔

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

دس دن کے بعد کیا دیکھتا ہے کہ دانیال اور اُس کے تین دوست شاہی کھانا کھانے والے دیگر نوجوانوں کی نسبت کہیں زیادہ صحت مند اور موٹے تازے لگ رہے ہیں۔

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

تب نگران اُن کے لئے مقررہ شاہی کھانے اور مَے کا انتظام بند کر کے اُنہیں صرف ساگ پات کھلانے لگا۔

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

اللہ نے اِن چار آدمیوں کو ادب اور حکمت کے ہر شعبے میں علم اور سمجھ عطا کی۔ نیز، دانیال ہر قسم کی رویا اور خواب کی تعبیر کر سکتا تھا۔

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

مقررہ تین سال کے بعد دربار کے اعلیٰ افسر نے تمام نوجوانوں کو نبوکدنضر کے سامنے پیش کیا۔

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

جب بادشاہ نے اُن سے گفتگو کی تو معلوم ہوا کہ دانیال، حننیاہ، میسائیل اور عزریاہ دوسروں پر سبقت رکھتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ چاروں بادشاہ کے ملازم بن گئے۔

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

جب بھی کسی معاملے میں خاص حکمت اور سمجھ درکار ہوتی تو بادشاہ نے دیکھا کہ یہ چار نوجوان مشورہ دینے میں پوری سلطنت کے تمام قسمت کا حال بتانے والوں اور جادوگروں سے دس گُنا زیادہ قابل ہیں۔

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

دانیال خورس کی حکومت کے پہلے سال تک شاہی دربار میں خدمت کرتا رہا۔

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
