Ruth 1

Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth–lehem–judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

اُن دنوں جب قاضی قوم کی راہنمائی کیا کرتے تھے تو اسرائیل میں کال پڑا۔ یہوداہ کے شہر بیت لحم میں ایک اِفراتی آدمی رہتا تھا جس کا نام اِلی مَلِک تھا۔ کال کی وجہ سے وہ اپنی بیوی نعومی اور اپنے دو بیٹوں محلون اور کلیون کو لے کر ملکِ موآب میں جا بسا۔

And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth–lehem–judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

اُن دنوں جب قاضی قوم کی راہنمائی کیا کرتے تھے تو اسرائیل میں کال پڑا۔ یہوداہ کے شہر بیت لحم میں ایک اِفراتی آدمی رہتا تھا جس کا نام اِلی مَلِک تھا۔ کال کی وجہ سے وہ اپنی بیوی نعومی اور اپنے دو بیٹوں محلون اور کلیون کو لے کر ملکِ موآب میں جا بسا۔

And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.

لیکن کچھ دیر کے بعد اِلی مَلِک فوت ہو گیا، اور نعومی اپنے دو بیٹوں کے ساتھ اکیلی رہ گئی۔

And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.

محلون اور کلیون نے موآب کی دو عورتوں سے شادی کر لی۔ ایک کا نام عُرفہ تھا اور دوسری کا روت۔ لیکن تقریباً دس سال کے بعد

And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.

دونوں بیٹے بھی جاں بحق ہو گئے۔ اب نعومی کا نہ شوہر اور نہ بیٹے ہی رہے تھے۔

Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.

ایک دن نعومی کو ملکِ موآب میں خبر ملی کہ رب اپنی قوم پر رحم کر کے اُسے دوبارہ اچھی فصلیں دے رہا ہے۔ تب وہ اپنے وطن یہوداہ کے لئے روانہ ہوئی۔ عُرفہ اور روت بھی ساتھ چلیں۔ جب وہ اُس راستے پر آ گئیں جو یہوداہ تک پہنچاتا ہے

Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

ایک دن نعومی کو ملکِ موآب میں خبر ملی کہ رب اپنی قوم پر رحم کر کے اُسے دوبارہ اچھی فصلیں دے رہا ہے۔ تب وہ اپنے وطن یہوداہ کے لئے روانہ ہوئی۔ عُرفہ اور روت بھی ساتھ چلیں۔ جب وہ اُس راستے پر آ گئیں جو یہوداہ تک پہنچاتا ہے

And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

تو نعومی نے اپنی بہوؤں سے کہا، ”اب اپنے ماں باپ کے گھر واپس چلی جائیں۔ رب آپ پر اُتنا رحم کرے جتنا آپ نے مرحوموں اور مجھ پر کیا ہے۔

The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.

وہ آپ کو نئے گھر اور نئے شوہر مہیا کر کے سکون دے۔“ یہ کہہ کر اُس نے اُنہیں بوسہ دیا۔ دونوں رو پڑیں

And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.

اور اعتراض کیا، ”ہرگز نہیں، ہم آپ کے ساتھ آپ کی قوم کے پاس جائیں گی۔“

And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

لیکن نعومی نے اصرار کیا، ”بیٹیو، بس کریں اور اپنے اپنے گھر واپس چلی جائیں۔ اب میرے ساتھ جانے کا کیا فائدہ؟ مجھ سے تو مزید کوئی بیٹا پیدا نہیں ہو گا جو آپ کا شوہر بن سکے۔

Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;

نہیں بیٹیو، واپس چلی جائیں۔ مَیں تو اِتنی بوڑھی ہو چکی ہوں کہ دوبارہ شادی نہیں کر سکتی۔ اور اگر اِس کی اُمید بھی ہوتی بلکہ میری شادی آج رات کو ہوتی اور میرے ہاں بیٹے پیدا ہوتے

Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.

تو کیا آپ اُن کے بالغ ہو جانے تک انتظار کر سکتیں؟ کیا آپ اُس وقت تک کسی اَور سے شادی کرنے سے انکار کرتیں؟ نہیں، بیٹیو۔ رب نے اپنا ہاتھ میرے خلاف اُٹھایا ہے، تو آپ اِس لعنت کی زد میں کیوں آئیں؟“

And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

تب عُرفہ اور روت دوبارہ رو پڑیں۔ عُرفہ نے اپنی ساس کو چوم کر الوداع کہا، لیکن روت نعومی کے ساتھ لپٹی رہی۔

And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

نعومی نے اُسے سمجھانے کی کوشش کی، ”دیکھیں، عُرفہ اپنی قوم اور اپنے دیوتاؤں کے پاس واپس چلی گئی ہے۔ اب آپ بھی ایسا ہی کریں۔“

And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

لیکن روت نے جواب دیا، ”مجھے آپ کو چھوڑ کر واپس جانے پر مجبور نہ کیجئے۔ جہاں آپ جائیں گی مَیں جاؤں گی۔ جہاں آپ رہیں گی وہاں مَیں بھی رہوں گی۔ آپ کی قوم میری قوم اور آپ کا خدا میرا خدا ہے۔

Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

جہاں آپ مریں گی وہیں مَیں مروں گی اور وہیں دفن ہو جاؤں گی۔ صرف موت ہی مجھے آپ سے الگ کر سکتی ہے۔ اگر میرا یہ وعدہ پورا نہ ہو تو اللہ مجھے سخت سزا دے!“

When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

نعومی نے جان لیا کہ روت کا ساتھ جانے کا پکا ارادہ ہے، اِس لئے وہ خاموش ہو گئی اور اُسے سمجھانے سے باز آئی۔

So they two went until they came to Beth–lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth–lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

وہ چل پڑیں اور چلتے چلتے بیت لحم پہنچ گئیں۔ جب داخل ہوئیں تو پورے شہر میں ہل چل مچ گئی۔ عورتیں کہنے لگیں، ”کیا یہ نعومی نہیں ہے؟“

And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

نعومی نے جواب دیا، ”اب مجھے نعومی مت کہنا بلکہ مارہ ، کیونکہ قادرِ مطلق نے مجھے سخت مصیبت میں ڈال دیا ہے۔

I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

یہاں سے جاتے وقت میرے ہاتھ بھرے ہوئے تھے، لیکن اب رب مجھے خالی ہاتھ واپس لے آیا ہے۔ چنانچہ مجھے نعومی مت کہنا۔ رب نے خود میرے خلاف گواہی دی ہے، قادرِ مطلق نے مجھے اِس مصیبت میں ڈالا ہے۔“

So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Beth–lehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

جب نعومی اپنی موآبی بہو کے ساتھ بیت لحم پہنچی تو جَو کی فصل کی کٹائی شروع ہو چکی تھی۔
