Joshua 5

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

یہ خبر دریائے یردن کے مغرب میں آباد تمام اموری بادشاہوں اور ساحلی علاقے میں آباد تمام کنعانی بادشاہوں تک پہنچ گئی کہ رب نے اسرائیلیوں کے سامنے دریا کو اُس وقت تک خشک کر دیا جب تک سب نے پار نہ کر لیا تھا۔ تب اُن کی ہمت ٹوٹ گئی اور اُن میں اسرائیلیوں کا سامنا کرنے کی جرٲت نہ رہی۔

At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

اُس وقت رب نے یشوع سے کہا، ”پتھر کی چھریاں بنا کر پہلے کی طرح اسرائیلیوں کا ختنہ کروا دے۔“

And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

چنانچہ یشوع نے پتھر کی چھریاں بنا کر ایک جگہ پر اسرائیلیوں کا ختنہ کروایا جس کا نام بعد میں ’ختنہ پہاڑ‘ رکھا گیا۔

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

بات یہ تھی کہ جو مرد مصر سے نکلتے وقت جنگ کرنے کے قابل تھے وہ ریگستان میں چلتے چلتے مر چکے تھے۔

Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

مصر سے روانہ ہونے والے اِن تمام مردوں کا ختنہ ہوا تھا، لیکن جتنے لڑکوں کی پیدائش ریگستان میں ہوئی تھی اُن کا ختنہ نہیں ہوا تھا۔

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

چونکہ اسرائیلی رب کے تابع نہیں رہے تھے اِس لئے اُس نے قَسم کھائی تھی کہ وہ اُس ملک کو نہیں دیکھیں گے جس میں دودھ اور شہد کی کثرت ہے اور جس کا وعدہ اُس نے قَسم کھا کر اُن کے باپ دادا سے کیا تھا۔ نتیجے میں اسرائیلی فوراً ملک میں داخل نہ ہو سکے بلکہ اُنہیں اُس وقت تک ریگستان میں پھرنا پڑا جب تک وہ تمام مرد مر نہ گئے جو مصر سے نکلتے وقت جنگ کرنے کے قابل تھے۔

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

اُن کی جگہ رب نے اُن کے بیٹوں کو کھڑا کیا تھا۔ یشوع نے اُن ہی کا ختنہ کروایا۔ اُن کا ختنہ اِس لئے ہوا کہ ریگستان میں سفر کے دوران اُن کا ختنہ نہیں کیا گیا تھا۔

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

پوری قوم کے مردوں کا ختنہ ہونے کے بعد وہ اُس وقت تک خیمہ گاہ میں رہے جب تک اُن کے زخم ٹھیک نہیں ہو گئے تھے۔

And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

اور رب نے یشوع سے کہا، ”آج مَیں نے مصر کی رُسوائی تم سے دُور کر دی ہے۔“ اِس لئے اُس جگہ کا نام آج تک جِلجال یعنی لُڑھکانا رہا ہے۔

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

جب اسرائیلی یریحو کے میدانی علاقے میں واقع جِلجال میں خیمہ زن تھے تو اُنہوں نے فسح کی عید بھی منائی۔ مہینے کا چودھواں دن تھا،

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

اور اگلے ہی دن وہ پہلی دفعہ اُس ملک کی پیداوار میں سے بےخمیری روٹی اور اناج کے بُھنے ہوئے دانے کھانے لگے۔

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

اُس کے بعد کے دن مَن کا سلسلہ ختم ہوا اور اسرائیلیوں کے لئے یہ سہولت نہ رہی۔ اُس سال وہ کنعان کی پیداوار سے کھانے لگے۔

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

ایک دن یشوع یریحو شہر کے قریب تھا۔ اچانک ایک آدمی اُس کے سامنے کھڑا نظر آیا جس کے ہاتھ میں ننگی تلوار تھی۔ یشوع نے اُس کے پاس جا کر پوچھا، ”کیا آپ ہمارے ساتھ یا ہمارے دشمنوں کے ساتھ ہیں؟“

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

آدمی نے کہا، ”نہیں، مَیں رب کے لشکر کا سردار ہوں اور ابھی ابھی تیرے پاس پہنچا ہوں۔“ یہ سن کر یشوع نے گر کر اُسے سجدہ کیا اور پوچھا، ”میرے آقا اپنے خادم کو کیا فرمانا چاہتے ہیں؟“

And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

رب کے لشکر کے سردار نے جواب میں کہا، ”اپنے جوتے اُتار دے، کیونکہ جس جگہ پر تُو کھڑا ہے وہ مُقدّس ہے۔“ یشوع نے ایسا ہی کیا۔
