Joshua 4

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

جب پوری قوم نے دریائے یردن کو عبور کر لیا تو رب یشوع سے ہم کلام ہوا،

Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

”ہر قبیلے میں سے ایک ایک آدمی کو چن لے۔

And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

پھر اِن بارہ آدمیوں کو حکم دے کہ جہاں امام دریائے یردن کے درمیان کھڑے ہیں وہاں سے بارہ پتھر اُٹھا کر اُنہیں اُس جگہ رکھ دو جہاں تم آج رات ٹھہرو گے۔“

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

چنانچہ یشوع نے اُن بارہ آدمیوں کو بُلایا جنہیں اُس نے اسرائیل کے ہر قبیلے سے چن لیا تھا

And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

اور اُن سے کہا، ”رب اپنے خدا کے صندوق کے آگے آگے چل کر دریا کے درمیان تک جائیں۔ آپ میں سے ہر آدمی ایک ایک پتھر اُٹھا کر اپنے کندھے پر رکھے اور باہر لے جائے۔ کُل بارہ پتھر ہوں گے، اسرائیل کے ہر قبیلے کے لئے ایک۔

That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

یہ پتھر آپ کے درمیان ایک یادگار نشان رہیں گے۔ آئندہ جب آپ کے بچے آپ سے پوچھیں گے کہ اِن پتھروں کا کیا مطلب ہے

Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

تو اُنہیں بتانا، ’یہ ہمیں یاد دلاتے ہیں کہ دریائے یردن کا بہاؤ رُک گیا جب رب کا عہد کا صندوق اُس میں سے گزرا۔‘ یہ پتھر ابد تک اسرائیل کو یاد دلاتے رہیں گے کہ یہاں کیا کچھ ہوا تھا۔“

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

اسرائیلیوں نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ اُنہوں نے دریائے یردن کے بیچ میں سے اپنے قبیلوں کی تعداد کے مطابق بارہ پتھر اُٹھائے، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح رب نے یشوع کو فرمایا تھا۔ پھر اُنہوں نے یہ پتھر اپنے ساتھ لے کر اُس جگہ رکھ دیئے جہاں اُنہیں رات کے لئے ٹھہرنا تھا۔

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

ساتھ ساتھ یشوع نے اُس جگہ بھی بارہ پتھر کھڑے کئے جہاں عہد کا صندوق اُٹھانے والے امام دریائے یردن کے درمیان کھڑے تھے۔ یہ پتھر آج تک وہاں پڑے ہیں۔

For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

صندوق کو اُٹھانے والے امام دریا کے درمیان کھڑے رہے جب تک لوگوں نے تمام احکام جو رب نے یشوع کو دیئے تھے پورے نہ کر لئے۔ یوں سب کچھ ویسا ہی ہوا جیسا موسیٰ نے یشوع کو فرمایا تھا۔ لوگ جلدی جلدی دریا میں سے گزرے۔

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

جب سب دوسرے کنارے پر تھے تو امام بھی رب کا صندوق لے کر کنارے پر پہنچے اور دوبارہ قوم کے آگے آگے چلنے لگے۔

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

اور جس طرح موسیٰ نے فرمایا تھا، روبن، جد اور منسّی کے آدھے قبیلے کے مرد مسلح ہو کر باقی اسرائیلی قبیلوں سے پہلے دریا کے دوسرے کنارے پر پہنچ گئے تھے۔

About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

تقریباً 40,000 مسلح مرد اُس وقت رب کے سامنے یریحو کے میدان میں پہنچ گئے تاکہ وہاں جنگ کریں۔

On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

اُس دن رب نے یشوع کو پوری اسرائیلی قوم کے سامنے سرفراز کیا۔ اُس کے جیتے جی لوگ اُس کا یوں خوف مانتے رہے جس طرح پہلے موسیٰ کا۔

And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

پھر رب نے یشوع سے کہا،

Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

”عہد کا صندوق اُٹھانے والے اماموں کو دریا میں سے نکلنے کا حکم دے۔“

Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

یشوع نے ایسا ہی کیا

And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

تو جوں ہی امام کنارے پر پہنچ گئے پانی دوبارہ بہہ کر دریا کے کناروں سے باہر آنے لگا۔

And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

اسرائیلیوں نے پہلے مہینے کے دسویں دن دریائے یردن کو عبور کیا۔ اُنہوں نے اپنے خیمے یریحو کے مشرق میں واقع جِلجال میں کھڑے کئے۔

And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

وہاں یشوع نے دریا میں سے چنے ہوئے بارہ پتھروں کو کھڑا کیا۔

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

اُس نے اسرائیلیوں سے کہا، ”آئندہ جب آپ کے بچے اپنے اپنے باپ سے پوچھیں گے کہ اِن پتھروں کا کیا مطلب ہے

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

تو اُنہیں بتانا، ’یہ وہ جگہ ہے جہاں اسرائیلی قوم نے خشک زمین پر دریائے یردن کو پار کیا۔‘

For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

کیونکہ رب آپ کے خدا نے اُس وقت تک آپ کے آگے آگے دریا کا پانی خشک کر دیا جب تک آپ وہاں سے گزر نہ گئے، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح بحرِ قُلزم کے ساتھ کیا تھا جب ہم اُس میں سے گزرے۔

That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.

اُس نے یہ کام اِس لئے کیا تاکہ زمین کی تمام قومیں اللہ کی قدرت کو جان لیں اور آپ ہمیشہ رب اپنے خدا کا خوف مانیں۔“
