Jeremiah 7

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

رب یرمیاہ سے ہم کلام ہوا،

Stand in the gate of the LORD'S house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

”رب کے گھر کے صحن کے دروازے پر کھڑا ہو کر اعلان کر کہ اے یہوداہ کے تمام باشندو، رب کا کلام سنو! جتنے بھی رب کی پرستش کرنے کے لئے اِن دروازوں میں داخل ہوتے ہیں وہ سب توجہ دیں!

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے کہ اپنی زندگی اور چال چلن درست کرو تو مَیں آئندہ بھی تمہیں اِس مقام پر بسنے دوں گا۔

Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

اُن کے فریب دہ الفاظ پر اعتماد مت کرو جو کہتے ہیں، ’یہاں ہم محفوظ ہیں کیونکہ یہ رب کا گھر، رب کا گھر، رب کا گھر ہے۔‘

For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

سنو، شرط تو یہ ہے کہ تم اپنی زندگی اور چال چلن درست کرو اور ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ انصاف کا سلوک کرو،

If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

کہ تم پردیسی، یتیم اور بیوہ پر ظلم نہ کرو، اِس جگہ بےقصور کا خون نہ بہاؤ اور اجنبی معبودوں کے پیچھے لگ کر اپنے آپ کو نقصان نہ پہنچاؤ۔

Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

اگر تم ایسا کرو تو مَیں آئندہ بھی تمہیں اِس جگہ بسنے دوں گا، اُس ملک میں جو مَیں نے تمہارے باپ دادا کو ہمیشہ کے لئے بخش دیا تھا۔

Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

لیکن افسوس، تم فریب دہ الفاظ پر بھروسا رکھتے ہو جو فضول ہی ہیں۔

Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

تم چور، قاتل اور زناکار ہو۔ نیز تم جھوٹی قَسم کھاتے، بعل دیوتا کے حضور بخور جلاتے اور اجنبی معبودوں کے پیچھے لگ جاتے ہو، ایسے دیوتاؤں کے پیچھے جن سے تم پہلے واقف نہیں تھے۔

And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

لیکن ساتھ ساتھ تم یہاں میرے حضور بھی آتے ہو۔ جس مکان پر میرے ہی نام کا ٹھپا لگا ہے اُسی میں تم کھڑے ہو کر کہتے ہو، ’ہم محفوظ ہیں۔‘ تم رب کے گھر میں عبادت کرنے کے ساتھ ساتھ کس طرح یہ تمام گھنونی حرکتیں جاری رکھ سکتے ہو؟“

Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”کیا تمہارے نزدیک یہ مکان جس پر میرے ہی نام کا ٹھپا لگا ہے ڈاکوؤں کا اڈّا بن گیا ہے؟ خبردار! یہ سب کچھ مجھے بھی نظر آتا ہے۔

But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

سَیلا شہر کا چکر لگاؤ جہاں مَیں نے پہلے اپنا نام بسایا تھا۔ معلوم کرو کہ مَیں نے اپنی قوم اسرائیل کی بےدینی کے سبب سے اُس شہر کے ساتھ کیا کِیا۔“

And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

رب فرماتا ہے، ”تم یہ شریر حرکتیں کرتے رہے، اور مَیں بار بار تم سے ہم کلام ہوتا رہا، لیکن تم نے میری نہ سنی۔ مَیں تمہیں بُلاتا رہا، لیکن تم جواب دینے کے لئے تیار نہ ہوئے۔

Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

اِس لئے اب مَیں اِس گھر کے ساتھ وہ کچھ کروں گا جو مَیں نے سَیلا کے ساتھ کیا تھا، گو اِس پر میرے ہی نام کا ٹھپا لگا ہے، یہ وہ مکان ہے جس پر تم اعتماد رکھتے ہو اور جسے مَیں نے تمہیں اور تمہارے باپ دادا کو عطا کیا تھا۔

And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

مَیں تمہیں اپنے حضور سے نکال دوں گا، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح مَیں نے تمہارے تمام بھائیوں یعنی اسرائیل کی اولاد کو نکال دیا تھا۔

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

اے یرمیاہ، اِس قوم کے لئے دعا مت کر۔ اِس کے لئے نہ التجا کر، نہ منت۔ اِن لوگوں کی خاطر مجھے تنگ نہ کر، کیونکہ مَیں تیری نہیں سنوں گا۔

Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

کیا تجھے وہ کچھ نظر نہیں آ رہا جو یہ یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں کر رہے ہیں؟

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

اور سب اِس میں ملوث ہیں۔ بچے لکڑی چن کر ڈھیر بناتے ہیں، پھر باپ اُسے آگ لگاتے ہیں جبکہ عورتیں آٹا گوندھ گوندھ کر آگ پر آسمان کی ملکہ نامی دیوی کے لئے ٹکیاں پکاتی ہیں۔ مجھے تنگ کرنے کے لئے وہ اجنبی معبودوں کو مَے کی نذریں بھی پیش کرتے ہیں۔

Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

لیکن حقیقت میں یہ مجھے اُتنا تنگ نہیں کر رہے جتنا اپنے آپ کو۔ ایسی حرکتوں سے وہ اپنی ہی رُسوائی کر رہے ہیں۔“

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

رب قادرِ مطلق فرماتا ہے، ”میرا قہر اور غضب اِس مقام پر، انسان و حیوان پر، کھلے میدان کے درختوں پر اور زمین کی پیداوار پر نازل ہو گا۔ سب کچھ نذرِ آتش ہو جائے گا، اور کوئی اُسے بجھا نہیں سکے گا۔“

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ”بھسم ہونے والی قربانیوں کو مجھے پیش نہ کرو، بلکہ اُن کا گوشت دیگر قربانیوں سمیت خود کھا لو۔

For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

کیونکہ جس دن مَیں تمہارے باپ دادا کو مصر سے نکال لایا اُس دن مَیں نے اُنہیں بھسم ہونے والی قربانیاں اور دیگر قربانیاں چڑھانے کا حکم نہ دیا۔

But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

مَیں نے اُنہیں صرف یہ حکم دیا کہ میری سنو! تب ہی مَیں تمہارا خدا ہوں گا اور تم میری قوم ہو گے۔ پورے طور پر اُس راہ پر چلتے رہو جو مَیں تمہیں دکھاتا ہوں۔ تب ہی تمہاری خیر ہو گی۔

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

لیکن اُنہوں نے میری نہ سنی، نہ دھیان دیا بلکہ اپنے شریر دل کی ضد کے مطابق زندگی گزارنے لگے۔ اُنہوں نے میری طرف رجوع نہ کیا بلکہ اپنا منہ مجھ سے پھیر لیا۔

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

جب سے تمہارے باپ دادا مصر سے نکل آئے آج تک مَیں روز بہ روز صبح سویرے اُٹھ کر اپنے خادموں یعنی نبیوں کو تمہارے پاس بھیجتا رہا۔

Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

توبھی اُنہوں نے نہ میری سنی، نہ توجہ دی۔ وہ بضد رہے بلکہ اپنے باپ دادا کی نسبت زیادہ بُرے تھے۔

Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

اے یرمیاہ، تُو اُنہیں یہ تمام باتیں بتائے گا، لیکن وہ تیری نہیں سنیں گے۔ تُو اُنہیں بُلائے گا، لیکن وہ جواب نہیں دیں گے۔

But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

تب تُو اُنہیں بتائے گا، ’اِس قوم نے نہ رب اپنے خدا کی آواز سنی، نہ اُس کی تربیت قبول کی۔ دیانت داری ختم ہو کر اُن کے منہ سے مٹ گئی ہے۔‘

Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

اپنے بالوں کو کاٹ کر پھینک دے! جا، بنجر ٹیلوں پر ماتم کا گیت گا، کیونکہ یہ نسل رب کے غضب کا نشانہ بن گئی ہے، اور اُس نے اِسے رد کر کے چھوڑ دیا ہے۔“

For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

کیونکہ رب فرماتا ہے، ”جو کچھ یہوداہ کے باشندوں نے کیا وہ مجھے بہت بُرا لگتا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے اپنے گھنونے بُتوں کو میرے نام کے لئے مخصوص گھر میں رکھ کر اُس کی بےحرمتی کی ہے۔

And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

ساتھ ساتھ اُنہوں نے وادیِ بن ہنوم میں واقع توفت کی اونچی جگہیں تعمیر کیں تاکہ اپنے بیٹے بیٹیوں کو جلا کر قربان کریں۔ مَیں نے کبھی بھی ایسی رسم ادا کرنے کا حکم نہیں دیا بلکہ یہ خیال میرے ذہن میں آیا تک نہیں۔

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

چنانچہ رب کا کلام سنو! وہ دن آنے والے ہیں جب یہ مقام ’توفت‘ یا ’وادیِ بن ہنوم‘ نہیں کہلائے گا بلکہ ’قتل و غارت کی وادی۔‘ اُس وقت لوگ توفت میں اِتنی لاشیں دفنائیں گے کہ آخرکار خالی جگہ نہیں رہے گی۔

And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

تب اِس قوم کی لاشیں پرندوں اور جنگلی جانوروں کی خوراک بن جائیں گی، اور کوئی نہیں ہو گا جو اُنہیں بھگا دے۔

Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

مَیں یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں خوشی و شادمانی کی آوازیں ختم کر دوں گا، دُولھا دُلھن کی آوازیں بند ہو جائیں گی۔ کیونکہ ملک ویران و سنسان ہو جائے گا۔“
