Jeremiah 6

O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth–haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

اے بن یمین کی اولاد، یروشلم سے نکل کر کہیں اَور پناہ لو! تقوع میں نرسنگا پھونکو! بیت کرم میں بھاگنے کا ایسا اشارہ کھڑا کر جو سب کو نظر آئے! کیونکہ شمال سے آفت نازل ہو رہی ہے، سب کچھ دھڑام سے گر جائے گا۔

I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

صیون بیٹی کتنی من موہن اور نازک ہے۔ لیکن مَیں اُسے ہلاک کر دوں گا،

The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

اور چرواہے اپنے ریوڑوں کو لے کر اُس پر ٹوٹ پڑیں گے۔ وہ اپنے خیموں کو اُس کے ارد گرد لگا لیں گے، اور ہر ایک کا ریوڑ چر چر کر اپنا حصہ کھا جائے گا۔

Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

وہ کہیں گے، ’آؤ، ہم اُس سے لڑنے کے لئے تیار ہو جائیں۔ آؤ، ہم دوپہر کے وقت حملہ کریں! لیکن افسوس، دن ڈھل رہا ہے، اور شام کے سائے لمبے ہوتے جا رہے ہیں۔

Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

کوئی بات نہیں، رات کے وقت ہی ہم اُس پر چھاپہ ماریں گے، اُسی وقت ہم اُس کے بُرجوں کو گرا دیں گے‘۔“

For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ”درختوں کو کاٹو، مٹی کے ڈھیروں سے یروشلم کا گھیراؤ کرو! شہر کو سزا دینی ہے، کیونکہ اُس میں ظلم ہی ظلم پایا جاتا ہے۔

As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

جس طرح کنوئیں سے تازہ پانی نکلتا رہتا ہے اُسی طرح یروشلم کی بدی بھی تازہ تازہ اُس سے نکلتی رہتی ہے۔ ظلم و تشدد کی آوازیں اُس میں گونجتی رہتی ہیں، اُس کی بیمار حالت اور زخم لگاتار میرے سامنے رہتے ہیں۔

Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

اے یروشلم، میری تربیت کو قبول کر، ورنہ مَیں تنگ آ کر تجھ سے اپنا منہ پھیر لوں گا، مَیں تجھے تباہ کر دوں گا اور تُو غیرآباد ہو جائے گی۔“

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ”جس طرح انگور چننے کے بعد غریب لوگ تمام بچا کھچا پھل توڑ لیتے ہیں اُسی طرح اسرائیل کا بچا کھچا حصہ بھی احتیاط سے توڑ لیا جائے گا۔ چننے والے کی طرح دوبارہ اپنے ہاتھ کو انگور کی شاخوں پر سے گزرنے دے۔“

To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

اے رب، مَیں کس سے بات کروں، کس کو آگاہ کروں؟ کون سنے گا؟ دیکھ، اُن کے کان نامختون ہیں، اِس لئے وہ سن ہی نہیں سکتے۔ رب کا کلام اُنہیں مضحکہ خیز لگتا ہے، وہ اُنہیں ناپسند ہے۔

Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

اِس لئے مَیں رب کے غضب سے بھرا ہوا ہوں، مَیں اُسے برداشت کرتے کرتے اِتنا تھک گیا ہوں کہ اُسے مزید نہیں روک سکتا۔ ”اُسے گلیوں میں کھیلنے والے بچوں اور جمع شدہ نوجوانوں پر نازل کر، کیونکہ سب کو گرفتار کیا جائے گا، خواہ آدمی ہو یا عورت، بزرگ ہو یا عمر رسیدہ۔

And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

اُن کے گھروں کو کھیتوں اور بیویوں سمیت دوسروں کے حوالے کیا جائے گا، کیونکہ مَیں اپنا ہاتھ ملک کے باشندوں کے خلاف بڑھاؤں گا۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

”چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک سب غلط نفع کے پیچھے پڑے ہیں، نبی سے لے کر امام تک سب دھوکے باز ہیں۔

They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

وہ میری قوم کے زخم پر عارضی مرہم پٹی لگا کر کہتے ہیں، ’اب سب کچھ ٹھیک ہو گیا ہے، اب سلامتی کا دور آ گیا ہے‘ حالانکہ سلامتی ہے ہی نہیں۔

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

ایسا گھنونا رویہ اُن کے لئے شرم کا باعث ہونا چاہئے، لیکن وہ شرم نہیں کرتے بلکہ سراسر بےشرم ہیں۔ اِس لئے جب سب کچھ گر جائے گا تو یہ لوگ بھی گر جائیں گے۔ جب مَیں اِن پر سزا نازل کروں گا تو یہ ٹھوکر کھا کر خاک میں مل جائیں گے۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”راستوں کے پاس کھڑے ہو کر اُن کا معائنہ کرو! قدیم راہوں کی تفتیش کر کے پتا کرو کہ اُن میں سے کون سی اچھی ہے، پھر اُس پر چلو۔ تب تمہاری جان کو سکون ملے گا۔ لیکن افسوس، تم انکار کر کے کہتے ہو، ’نہیں، ہم یہ راہ اختیار نہیں کریں گے!‘

Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

دیکھو، مَیں نے تم پر پہرے دار مقرر کئے اور کہا، ’جب نرسنگا پھونکا جائے گا تو دھیان دو!‘ لیکن تم نے انکار کیا، ’نہیں، ہم توجہ نہیں دیں گے۔‘

Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

چنانچہ اے قومو، سنو! اے جماعت، جان لے کہ اُن کے ساتھ کیا کچھ کیا جائے گا۔

Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

اے زمین، دھیان دے کہ مَیں اِس قوم پر کیا آفت نازل کروں گا۔ اور یہ اُن کے اپنے منصوبوں کا پھل ہو گا، کیونکہ اُنہوں نے میری باتوں پر توجہ نہ دی بلکہ میری شریعت کو رد کر دیا۔

To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

مجھے سبا کے بخور یا دُوردراز ممالک کے قیمتی مسالوں کی کیا پروا! تمہاری بھسم ہونے والی قربانیاں مجھے پسند نہیں، تمہاری ذبح کی قربانیوں سے مَیں لطف اندوز نہیں ہوتا۔“

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”مَیں اِس قوم کے راستے میں ایسی رکاوٹیں کھڑی کر دوں گا جن سے باپ اور بیٹا ٹھوکر کھا کر گر جائیں گے۔ پڑوسی اور دوست مل کر ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔“

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”شمالی ملک سے فوج آ رہی ہے، دنیا کی انتہا سے ایک عظیم قوم کو جگایا جا رہا ہے۔

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

اُس کے ظالم اور بےرحم فوجی کمان اور شمشیر سے لیس ہیں۔ سنو اُن کا شور! متلاطم سمندر کی سی آواز سنائی دے رہی ہے۔ اے صیون بیٹی، وہ گھوڑوں پر صف آرا ہو کر تجھ پر حملہ کرنے آ رہے ہیں۔“

We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

اُن کے بارے میں اطلاع پا کر ہمارے ہاتھ ہمت ہار گئے ہیں۔ ہم پر خوف طاری ہو گیا ہے، ہمیں دردِ زہ میں مبتلا عورت کا سا درد ہو رہا ہے۔

Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

شہر سے نکل کر کھیت میں یا سڑک پر مت چلنا، کیونکہ وہاں دشمن تلوار تھامے کھڑا ہے، چاروں طرف دہشت ہی دہشت پھیل گئی ہے۔

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

اے میری قوم، ٹاٹ کا لباس پہن کر راکھ میں لوٹ پوٹ ہو جا۔ یوں ماتم کر جس طرح اکلوتا بیٹا مر گیا ہو۔ زور سے واویلا کر، کیونکہ اچانک ہی ہلاکو ہم پر چھاپہ مارے گا۔

I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

رب مجھ سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”مَیں نے تجھے دھاتوں کو جانچنے کی ذمہ داری دی ہے، اور میری قوم وہ دھات ہے جس کا چال چلن تجھے معلوم کر کے پرکھنا ہے۔“

They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

اے رب، یہ تمام لوگ بدترین قسم کے سرکش ہیں۔ تہمت لگانا اِن کی روزی بن گیا ہے۔ یہ پیتل اور لوہا ہی ہیں، سب کے سب تباہی کا باعث ہیں۔

The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

دھونکنی خوب ہَوا دے رہی ہے تاکہ سیسہ آگ میں پگھل کر چاندی سے الگ ہو جائے۔ لیکن افسوس، ساری محنت رائیگاں ہے۔ سیسہ یعنی بےدینوں کو الگ نہیں کیا جا سکتا، خالص چاندی باقی نہیں رہتی۔

Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

چنانچہ اُنہیں ’ردی چاندی‘ قرار دیا جاتا ہے، کیونکہ رب نے اُنہیں رد کر دیا ہے۔
