Jeremiah 26

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

جب یہویقیم بن یوسیاہ یہوداہ کے تخت پر بیٹھ گیا تو تھوڑی دیر کے بعد رب کا کلام یرمیاہ پر نازل ہوا۔

Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

رب نے فرمایا، ”اے یرمیاہ، رب کے گھر کے صحن میں کھڑا ہو کر اُن تمام لوگوں سے مخاطب ہو جو رب کے گھر میں سجدہ کرنے کے لئے یہوداہ کے دیگر شہروں سے آئے ہیں۔ اُنہیں میرا پورا پیغام سنا دے، ایک بات بھی نہ چھوڑ!

If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

شاید وہ سنیں اور ہر ایک اپنی بُری راہ سے باز آ جائے۔ اِس صورت میں مَیں پچھتا کر اُن پر وہ سزا نازل نہیں کروں گا جس کا منصوبہ مَیں نے اُن کے بُرے اعمال دیکھ کر باندھ لیا ہے۔

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

اُنہیں بتا، ’رب فرماتا ہے کہ میری سنو اور میری اُس شریعت پر عمل کرو جو مَیں نے تمہیں دی ہے۔

To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

نیز، نبیوں کے پیغامات پر دھیان دو۔ افسوس، گو مَیں اپنے خادموں کو بار بار تمہارے پاس بھیجتا رہا توبھی تم نے اُن کی نہ سنی۔

Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

اگر تم آئندہ بھی نہ سنو تو مَیں اِس گھر کو یوں تباہ کروں گا جس طرح مَیں نے سَیلا کا مقدِس تباہ کیا تھا۔ مَیں اِس شہر کو بھی یوں خاک میں ملا دوں گا کہ عبرت انگیز مثال بن جائے گا۔ دنیا کی تمام قوموں میں جب کوئی اپنے دشمن پر لعنت بھیجنا چاہے تو وہ کہے گا کہ اُس کا یروشلم کا سا انجام ہو‘۔“

So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

جب یرمیاہ نے رب کے گھر میں رب کے یہ الفاظ سنائے تو اماموں، نبیوں اور تمام باقی لوگوں نے غور سے سنا۔

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

یرمیاہ نے اُنہیں سب کچھ پیش کیا جو رب نے اُسے سنانے کو کہا تھا۔ لیکن جوں ہی وہ اختتام پر پہنچ گیا تو امام، نبی اور باقی تمام لوگ اُسے پکڑ کر چیخنے لگے، ”تجھے مرنا ہی ہے!

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

تُو رب کا نام لے کر کیوں کہہ رہا ہے کہ رب کا گھر سَیلا کی طرح تباہ ہو جائے گا، اور یروشلم ملبے کا ڈھیر بن کر غیرآباد ہو جائے گا؟“ ایسی باتیں کہہ کر تمام لوگوں نے رب کے گھر میں یرمیاہ کو گھیرے رکھا۔

When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house.

جب یہوداہ کے بزرگوں کو اِس کی خبر ملی تو وہ شاہی محل سے نکل کر رب کے گھر کے پاس پہنچے۔ وہاں وہ رب کے گھر کے صحن کے نئے دروازے میں بیٹھ گئے تاکہ یرمیاہ کی عدالت کریں۔

Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

تب اماموں اور نبیوں نے بزرگوں اور تمام لوگوں کے سامنے یرمیاہ پر الزام لگایا، ”لازم ہے کہ اِس آدمی کو سزائے موت دی جائے! کیونکہ اِس نے اِس شہر یروشلم کے خلاف نبوّت کی ہے۔ آپ نے اپنے کانوں سے یہ بات سنی ہے۔“

Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

تب یرمیاہ نے بزرگوں اور باقی تمام لوگوں سے کہا، ”رب نے خود مجھے یہاں بھیجا تاکہ مَیں رب کے گھر اور یروشلم کے خلاف اُن تمام باتوں کی پیش گوئی کروں جو آپ نے سنی ہیں۔

Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

چنانچہ اپنی راہوں اور اعمال کو درست کریں! رب اپنے خدا کی سنیں تاکہ وہ پچھتا کر آپ پر وہ سزا نازل نہ کرے جس کا اعلان اُس نے کیا ہے۔

As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.

جہاں تک میرا تعلق ہے، مَیں تو آپ کے ہاتھ میں ہوں۔ میرے ساتھ وہ سلوک کریں جو آپ کو اچھا اور مناسب لگے۔

But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

لیکن ایک بات جان لیں۔ اگر آپ مجھے سزائے موت دیں تو آپ بےقصور کے قاتل ٹھہریں گے۔ آپ اور یہ شہر اُس کے تمام باشندوں سمیت قصوروار ٹھہریں گے۔ کیونکہ رب ہی نے مجھے آپ کے پاس بھیجا تاکہ آپ کے سامنے ہی یہ باتیں کروں۔“

Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

یہ سن کر بزرگوں اور عوام کے تمام لوگوں نے اماموں اور نبیوں سے کہا، ”یہ آدمی سزائے موت کے لائق نہیں ہے! کیونکہ اُس نے رب ہمارے خدا کا نام لے کر ہم سے بات کی ہے۔“

Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

پھر ملک کے کچھ بزرگ کھڑے ہو کر پوری جماعت سے مخاطب ہوئے،

Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

”جب حِزقیاہ یہوداہ کا بادشاہ تھا تو مورشت کے رہنے والے نبی میکاہ نے نبوّت کر کے یہوداہ کے تمام باشندوں سے کہا، ’رب الافواج فرماتا ہے کہ صیون پر کھیت کی طرح ہل چلایا جائے گا، اور یروشلم ملبے کا ڈھیر بن جائے گا۔ رب کے گھر کی پہاڑی پر گنجان جنگل اُگے گا۔‘

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

کیا یہوداہ کے بادشاہ حِزقیاہ یا یہوداہ کے کسی اَور شخص نے میکاہ کو سزائے موت دی؟ ہرگز نہیں، بلکہ حِزقیاہ نے رب کا خوف مان کر اُس کا غصہ ٹھنڈا کرنے کی کوشش کی۔ نتیجے میں رب نے پچھتا کر وہ سزا اُن پر نازل نہ کی جس کا اعلان وہ کر چکا تھا۔ سنیں، اگر ہم یرمیاہ کو سزائے موت دیں تو اپنے آپ پر سخت سزا لائیں گے۔“

And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath–jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

اُن دنوں میں ایک اَور نبی بھی یرمیاہ کی طرح رب کا نام لے کر نبوّت کرتا تھا۔ اُس کا نام اُوریاہ بن سمعیاہ تھا، اور وہ قِریَت یعریم کا رہنے والا تھا۔ اُس نے بھی یروشلم اور یہوداہ کے خلاف وہی پیش گوئیاں سنائیں جو یرمیاہ سناتا تھا۔

And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

جب یہویقیم بادشاہ اور اُس کے تمام فوجی اور سرکاری افسروں نے اُس کی باتیں سنیں تو بادشاہ نے اُسے مار ڈالنے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن اُوریاہ کو اِس کی خبر ملی، اور وہ ڈر کر بھاگ گیا۔ چلتے چلتے وہ مصر پہنچ گیا۔

And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.

تب یہویقیم نے اِلناتن بن عکبور اور چند ایک آدمیوں کو وہاں بھیج دیا۔

And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

وہاں پہنچ کر وہ اُوریاہ کو پکڑ کر یہویقیم کے پاس واپس لائے۔ بادشاہ کے حکم پر اُس کا سر قلم کر دیا گیا اور اُس کی نعش کو نچلے طبقے کے لوگوں کے قبرستان میں دفنایا گیا۔

Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

لیکن یرمیاہ کی جان چھوٹ گئی۔ اُسے عوام کے حوالے نہ کیا گیا، گو وہ اُسے مار ڈالنا چاہتے تھے، کیونکہ اخی قام بن سافن اُس کے حق میں تھا۔
