Ezekiel 18

The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,

رب مجھ سے ہم کلام ہوا،

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?

”تم لوگ ملکِ اسرائیل کے لئے یہ کہاوت کیوں استعمال کرتے ہو، ’والدین نے کھٹے انگور کھائے، لیکن اُن کے بچوں ہی کے دانت کھٹے ہو گئے ہیں۔‘

As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

رب قادرِ مطلق فرماتا ہے کہ میری حیات کی قَسم، آئندہ تم یہ کہاوت اسرائیل میں استعمال نہیں کرو گے!

Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

ہر انسان کی جان میری ہی ہے، خواہ باپ کی ہو یا بیٹے کی۔ جس نے گناہ کیا ہے صرف اُسی کو سزائے موت ملے گی۔

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

لیکن اُس راست باز کا معاملہ فرق ہے جو راستی اور انصاف کی راہ پر چلتے ہوئے

And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,

نہ اونچی جگہوں کی ناجائز قربانیاں کھاتا، نہ اسرائیلی قوم کے بُتوں کی پوجا کرتا ہے۔ نہ وہ اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی کی بےحرمتی کرتا، نہ ماہواری کے دوران کسی عورت سے ہم بستر ہوتا ہے۔

And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

وہ کسی پر ظلم نہیں کرتا۔ اگر کوئی ضمانت دے کر اُس سے قرضہ لے تو پیسے واپس ملنے پر وہ ضمانت واپس کر دیتا ہے۔ وہ چوری نہیں کرتا بلکہ بھوکوں کو کھانا کھلاتا اور ننگوں کو کپڑے پہناتا ہے۔

He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

وہ کسی سے بھی سود نہیں لیتا۔ وہ غلط کام کرنے سے گریز کرتا اور جھگڑنے والوں کا منصفانہ فیصلہ کرتا ہے۔

Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.

وہ میرے قواعد کے مطابق زندگی گزارتا اور وفاداری سے میرے احکام پر عمل کرتا ہے۔ ایسا شخص راست باز ہے، اور وہ یقیناً زندہ رہے گا۔ یہ رب قادرِ مطلق کا فرمان ہے۔

If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,

اب فرض کرو کہ اُس کا ایک ظالم بیٹا ہے جو قاتل ہے اور وہ کچھ کرتا ہے

And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,

جس سے اُس کا باپ گریز کرتا تھا۔ وہ اونچی جگہوں کی ناجائز قربانیاں کھاتا، اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی کی بےحرمتی کرتا،

Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

غریبوں اور ضرورت مندوں پر ظلم کرتا اور چوری کرتا ہے۔ جب قرض دار قرضہ ادا کرے تو وہ اُسے ضمانت واپس نہیں دیتا۔ وہ بُتوں کی پوجا بلکہ کئی قسم کی مکروہ حرکتیں کرتا ہے۔

Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

وہ سود بھی لیتا ہے۔ کیا ایسا آدمی زندہ رہے گا؟ ہرگز نہیں! اِن تمام مکروہ حرکتوں کی بنا پر اُسے سزائے موت دی جائے گی۔ وہ خود اپنے گناہوں کا ذمہ دار ٹھہرے گا۔

Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

لیکن فرض کرو کہ اِس بیٹے کے ہاں بیٹا پیدا ہو جائے۔ گو بیٹا سب کچھ دیکھتا ہے جو اُس کے باپ سے سرزد ہوتا ہے توبھی وہ باپ کے غلط نمونے پر نہیں چلتا۔

That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,

نہ وہ اونچی جگہوں کی ناجائز قربانیاں کھاتا، نہ اسرائیلی قوم کے بُتوں کی پوجا کرتا ہے۔ وہ اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی کی بےحرمتی نہیں کرتا

Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,

اور کسی پر بھی ظلم نہیں کرتا۔ اگر کوئی ضمانت دے کر اُس سے قرضہ لے تو پیسے واپس ملنے پر وہ ضمانت لوٹا دیتا ہے۔ وہ چوری نہیں کرتا بلکہ بھوکوں کو کھانا کھلاتا اور ننگوں کو کپڑے پہناتا ہے۔

That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

وہ غلط کام کرنے سے گریز کر کے سود نہیں لیتا۔ وہ میرے قواعد کے مطابق زندگی گزارتا اور میرے احکام پر عمل کرتا ہے۔ ایسے شخص کو اپنے باپ کی سزا نہیں بھگتنی پڑے گی۔ اُسے سزائے موت نہیں ملے گی، حالانکہ اُس کے باپ نے مذکورہ گناہ کئے ہیں۔ نہیں، وہ یقیناً زندہ رہے گا۔

As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.

لیکن اُس کے باپ کو ضرور اُس کے گناہوں کی سزا ملے گی، وہ یقیناً مرے گا۔ کیونکہ اُس نے لوگوں پر ظلم کیا، اپنے بھائی سے چوری کی اور اپنی ہی قوم کے درمیان بُرا کام کیا۔

Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.

لیکن تم لوگ اعتراض کرتے ہو، ’بیٹا باپ کے قصور میں کیوں نہ شریک ہو؟ اُسے بھی باپ کی سزا بھگتنی چاہئے۔‘ جواب یہ ہے کہ بیٹا تو راست باز اور انصاف کی راہ پر چلتا رہا ہے، وہ احتیاط سے میرے تمام احکام پر عمل کرتا رہا ہے۔ اِس لئے لازم ہے کہ وہ زندہ رہے۔

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

جس سے گناہ سرزد ہوا ہے صرف اُسے ہی مرنا ہے۔ لہٰذا نہ بیٹے کو باپ کی سزا بھگتنی پڑے گی، نہ باپ کو بیٹے کی۔ راست باز اپنی راست بازی کا اجر پائے گا، اور بےدین اپنی بےدینی کا۔

But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

توبھی اگر بےدین آدمی اپنے گناہوں کو ترک کرے اور میرے تمام قواعد کے مطابق زندگی گزار کر راست بازی اور انصاف کی راہ پر چل پڑے تو وہ یقیناً زندہ رہے گا، وہ مرے گا نہیں۔

All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

جتنے بھی غلط کام اُس سے سرزد ہوئے ہیں اُن کا حساب مَیں نہیں لوں گا بلکہ اُس کے راست باز چال چلن کا لحاظ کر کے اُسے زندہ رہنے دوں گا۔

Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

رب قادرِ مطلق فرماتا ہے کہ کیا مَیں بےدین کی ہلاکت دیکھ کر خوش ہوتا ہوں؟ ہرگز نہیں، بلکہ مَیں چاہتا ہوں کہ وہ اپنی بُری راہوں کو چھوڑ کر زندہ رہے۔

But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

اِس کے برعکس کیا راست باز زندہ رہے گا اگر وہ اپنی راست باز زندگی ترک کرے اور گناہ کر کے وہی قابلِ گھن حرکتیں کرنے لگے جو بےدین کرتے ہیں؟ ہرگز نہیں! جتنا بھی اچھا کام اُس نے کیا اُس کا مَیں خیال نہیں کروں گا بلکہ اُس کی بےوفائی اور گناہوں کا۔ اُن ہی کی وجہ سے اُسے سزائے موت دی جائے گی۔

Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

لیکن تم لوگ دعویٰ کرتے ہو کہ جو کچھ رب کرتا ہے وہ ٹھیک نہیں۔ اے اسرائیلی قوم، سنو! یہ کیسی بات ہے کہ میرا عمل ٹھیک نہیں؟ اپنے ہی اعمال پر غور کرو! وہی درست نہیں۔

When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

اگر راست باز اپنی راست باز زندگی ترک کر کے گناہ کرے تو وہ اِس بنا پر مر جائے گا۔ اپنی ناراستی کی وجہ سے ہی وہ مر جائے گا۔

Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

اِس کے برعکس اگر بےدین اپنی بےدین زندگی ترک کر کے راستی اور انصاف کی راہ پر چلنے لگے تو وہ اپنی جان کو چھڑائے گا۔

Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

کیونکہ اگر وہ اپنا قصور تسلیم کر کے اپنے گناہوں سے منہ موڑ لے تو وہ مرے گا نہیں بلکہ زندہ رہے گا۔

Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

لیکن اسرائیلی قوم دعویٰ کرتی ہے کہ جو کچھ رب کرتا ہے وہ ٹھیک نہیں۔ اے اسرائیلی قوم، یہ کیسی بات ہے کہ میرا عمل ٹھیک نہیں؟ اپنے ہی اعمال پر غور کرو! وہی درست نہیں۔

Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

اِس لئے رب قادرِ مطلق فرماتا ہے کہ اے اسرائیل کی قوم، مَیں تیری عدالت کروں گا، ہر ایک کا اُس کے کاموں کے موافق فیصلہ کروں گا۔ چنانچہ خبردار! توبہ کر کے اپنی بےوفا حرکتوں سے منہ پھیرو، ورنہ تم گناہ میں پھنس کر گر جاؤ گے۔

Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

اپنے تمام غلط کام ترک کر کے نیا دل اور نئی روح اپنا لو۔ اے اسرائیلیو، تم کیوں مر جاؤ؟

For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

کیونکہ مَیں کسی کی موت سے خوش نہیں ہوتا۔ چنانچہ توبہ کرو، تب ہی تم زندہ رہو گے۔ یہ رب قادرِ مطلق کا فرمان ہے۔
