II Chronicles 14

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

جب ابیاہ مر کر اپنے باپ دادا سے جا ملا تو اُسے یروشلم کے اُس حصے میں دفنایا گیا جو ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے۔ پھر اُس کا بیٹا آسا تخت نشین ہوا۔ آسا کی حکومت کے تحت ملک میں 10 سال تک امن و امان قائم رہا۔

And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

آسا وہ کچھ کرتا رہا جو رب اُس کے خدا کے نزدیک اچھا اور ٹھیک تھا۔

For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

اُس نے اجنبی معبودوں کی قربان گاہوں کو اونچی جگہوں کے مندروں سمیت گرا کر دیوتاؤں کے لئے مخصوص کئے گئے ستونوں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا اور یسیرت دیوی کے کھمبے کاٹ ڈالے۔

And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے یہوداہ کے باشندوں کو ہدایت دی کہ وہ رب اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کے طالب ہوں اور اُس کے احکام کے تابع رہیں۔

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

یہوداہ کے تمام شہروں سے اُس نے بخور کی قربان گاہیں اور اونچی جگہوں کے مندر دُور کر دیئے۔ چنانچہ اُس کی حکومت کے دوران بادشاہی میں سکون رہا۔

And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

امن و امان کے اِن سالوں کے دوران آسا یہوداہ میں کئی شہروں کی قلعہ بندی کر سکا۔ جنگ کا خطرہ نہیں تھا، کیونکہ رب نے اُسے سکون مہیا کیا۔

Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

بادشاہ نے یہوداہ کے باشندوں سے کہا، ”آئیں، ہم اِن شہروں کی قلعہ بندی کریں! ہم اِن کے ارد گرد فصیلیں بنا کر اُنہیں بُرجوں، دروازوں اور کنڈوں سے مضبوط کریں۔ کیونکہ اب تک ملک ہمارے ہاتھ میں ہے۔ چونکہ ہم رب اپنے خدا کے طالب رہے ہیں اِس لئے اُس نے ہمیں چاروں طرف صلح سلامتی مہیا کی ہے۔“ چنانچہ قلعہ بندی کا کام شروع ہوا بلکہ تکمیل تک پہنچ سکا۔

And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

آسا کی فوج میں بڑی ڈھالوں اور نیزوں سے لیس یہوداہ کے 3,00,000 افراد تھے۔ اِس کے علاوہ چھوٹی ڈھالوں اور کمانوں سے مسلح بن یمین کے 2,80,000 افراد تھے۔ سب تجربہ کار فوجی تھے۔

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

ایک دن ایتھوپیا کے بادشاہ زارح نے یہوداہ پر حملہ کیا۔ اُس کے بےشمار فوجی اور 300 رتھ تھے۔ بڑھتے بڑھتے وہ مریسہ تک پہنچ گیا۔

Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

آسا اُس کا مقابلہ کرنے کے لئے نکلا۔ وادیِ صفاتہ میں دونوں فوجیں لڑنے کے لئے صف آرا ہوئیں۔

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

آسا نے رب اپنے خدا سے التماس کی، ”اے رب، صرف تُو ہی بےبسوں کو طاقت وروں کے حملوں سے محفوظ رکھ سکتا ہے۔ اے رب ہمارے خدا، ہماری مدد کر! کیونکہ ہم تجھ پر بھروسا رکھتے ہیں۔ تیرا ہی نام لے کر ہم اِس بڑی فوج کا مقابلہ کرنے کے لئے نکلے ہیں۔ اے رب، تُو ہی ہمارا خدا ہے۔ ایسا نہ ہونے دے کہ انسان تیری مرضی کی خلاف ورزی کرنے میں کامیاب ہو جائے۔“

So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

تب رب نے آسا اور یہوداہ کے دیکھتے دیکھتے دشمن کو شکست دی۔ ایتھوپیا کے فوجی فرار ہوئے،

And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

اور آسا نے اپنے فوجیوں کے ساتھ جرار تک اُن کا تعاقب کیا۔ دشمن کے اِتنے افراد ہلاک ہوئے کہ اُس کی فوج بعد میں بحال نہ ہو سکی۔ رب خود اور اُس کی فوج نے دشمن کو تباہ کر دیا تھا۔ یہوداہ کے مردوں نے بہت سا مال لُوٹ لیا۔

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

وہ جرار کے ارد گرد کے شہروں پر بھی قبضہ کرنے میں کامیاب ہوئے، کیونکہ مقامی لوگوں میں رب کی دہشت پھیل گئی تھی۔ نتیجے میں اِن شہروں سے بھی بہت سا مال چھین لیا گیا۔

They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

اِس مہم کے دوران اُنہوں نے گلہ بانوں کی خیمہ گاہوں پر بھی حملہ کیا اور اُن سے کثرت کی بھیڑبکریاں اور اونٹ لُوٹ کر اپنے ساتھ یروشلم لے آئے۔
