I Timothy 3

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

یہ بات یقینی ہے کہ جو جماعت کا نگران بننا چاہتا ہے وہ ایک اچھی ذمہ داری کی آرزو رکھتا ہے۔

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

لازم ہے کہ نگران بےالزام ہو۔ اُس کی ایک ہی بیوی ہو۔ وہ ہوش مند، سمجھ دار ، شریف، مہمان نواز اور تعلیم دینے کے قابل ہو۔

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

وہ شرابی نہ ہو، نہ لڑاکا بلکہ نرم دل اور امن پسند۔ وہ پیسوں کا لالچ کرنے والا نہ ہو۔

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

لازم ہے کہ وہ اپنے خاندان کو اچھی طرح سنبھال سکے اور کہ اُس کے بچے شرافت کے ساتھ اُس کی بات مانیں۔

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

کیونکہ اگر وہ اپنا خاندان نہ سنبھال سکے تو وہ کس طرح اللہ کی جماعت کی دیکھ بھال کر سکے گا؟

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

وہ نومرید نہ ہو ورنہ خطرہ ہے کہ وہ پھول کر ابلیس کے جال میں اُلجھ جائے اور یوں اُس کی عدالت کی جائے۔

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

لازم ہے کہ جماعت سے باہر کے لوگ اُس کی اچھی گواہی دے سکیں، ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ بدنام ہو کر ابلیس کے پھندے میں پھنس جائے۔

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

اِسی طرح جماعت کے مددگار بھی شریف ہوں۔ وہ ریاکار نہ ہوں، نہ حد سے زیادہ مَے پئیں۔ وہ لالچی بھی نہ ہوں۔

Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

لازم ہے کہ وہ صاف ضمیر رکھ کر ایمان کی پُراسرار سچائیاں محفوظ رکھیں۔

And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

یہ بھی ضروری ہے کہ اُنہیں پہلے پرکھا جائے۔ اگر وہ اِس کے بعد بےالزام نکلیں تو پھر وہ خدمت کریں۔

Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

اُن کی بیویاں بھی شریف ہوں۔ وہ بہتان لگانے والی نہ ہوں بلکہ ہوش مند اور ہر بات میں وفادار۔

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

مددگار کی ایک ہی بیوی ہو۔ لازم ہے کہ وہ اپنے بچوں اور خاندان کو اچھی طرح سنبھال سکے۔

For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

جو مددگار اچھی طرح اپنی خدمت سنبھالتے ہیں اُن کی حیثیت بڑھ جائے گی اور مسیح عیسیٰ پر اُن کا ایمان اِتنا پختہ ہو جائے گا کہ وہ بڑے اعتماد کے ساتھ زندگی گزار سکیں گے۔

These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

اگرچہ مَیں جلد آپ کے پاس آنے کی اُمید رکھتا ہوں توبھی آپ کو یہ خط لکھ رہا ہوں۔

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

لیکن اگر دیر بھی لگے تو یہ پڑھ کر آپ کو معلوم ہو گا کہ اللہ کے گھرانے میں ہمارا برتاؤ کیسا ہونا چاہئے۔ اللہ کا گھرانا کیا ہے؟ زندہ خدا کی جماعت، جو سچائی کا ستون اور بنیاد ہے۔

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

یقیناً ہمارے ایمان کا بھید عظیم ہے۔ وہ جسم میں ظاہر ہوا، روح میں راست باز ٹھہرا اور فرشتوں کو دکھائی دیا۔ اُس کی غیریہودیوں میں منادی کی گئی، اُس پر دنیا میں ایمان لایا گیا اور اُسے آسمان کے جلال میں اُٹھا لیا گیا۔
