I Samuel 5

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben–ezer unto Ashdod.

فلستی اللہ کا صندوق ابن عزر سے اشدود شہر میں لے گئے۔

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

وہاں اُنہوں نے اُسے اپنے دیوتا دجون کے مندر میں بُت کے قریب رکھ دیا۔

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

اگلے دن صبح سویرے جب اشدود کے باشندے مندر میں داخل ہوئے تو کیا دیکھتے ہیں کہ دجون کا مجسمہ منہ کے بل رب کے صندوق کے سامنے ہی پڑا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے دجون کو اُٹھا کر دوبارہ اُس کی جگہ پر کھڑا کیا۔

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

لیکن اگلے دن جب صبح سویرے آئے تو دجون دوبارہ منہ کے بل رب کے صندوق کے سامنے پڑا ہوا تھا۔ لیکن اِس مرتبہ بُت کا سر اور ہاتھ ٹوٹ کر دہلیز پر پڑے تھے۔ صرف دھڑ رہ گیا تھا۔

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

یہی وجہ ہے کہ آج تک دجون کا کوئی بھی پجاری یا مہمان اشدود کے مندر کی دہلیز پر قدم نہیں رکھتا۔

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

پھر رب نے اشدود اور گرد و نواح کے دیہاتوں پر سخت دباؤ ڈال کر باشندوں کو پریشان کر دیا۔ اُن میں اچانک اذیت ناک پھوڑوں کی وبا پھیل گئی۔

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

جب اشدود کے لوگوں نے اِس کی وجہ جان لی تو وہ بولے، ”لازم ہے کہ اسرائیل کے خدا کا صندوق ہمارے پاس نہ رہے۔ کیونکہ اُس کا ہم پر اور ہمارے دیوتا دجون پر دباؤ ناقابلِ برداشت ہے۔“

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

اُنہوں نے تمام فلستی حکمرانوں کو اکٹھا کر کے پوچھا، ”ہم اسرائیل کے خدا کے صندوق کے ساتھ کیا کریں؟“ اُنہوں نے مشورہ دیا، ”اُسے جات شہر میں لے جائیں۔“

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

لیکن جب عہد کا صندوق جات میں چھوڑا گیا تو رب کا دباؤ اُس شہر پر بھی آ گیا۔ بڑی افرا تفری پیدا ہوئی، کیونکہ چھوٹوں سے لے کر بڑوں تک سب کو اذیت ناک پھوڑے نکل آئے۔

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

تب اُنہوں نے عہد کا صندوق آگے عقرون بھیج دیا۔ لیکن صندوق ابھی پہنچنے والا تھا کہ عقرون کے باشندے چیخنے لگے، ”وہ اسرائیل کے خدا کا صندوق ہمارے پاس لائے ہیں تاکہ ہمیں ہلاک کر دیں!“

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

تمام فلستی حکمرانوں کو دوبارہ بُلایا گیا، اور عقرونیوں نے تقاضا کیا کہ صندوق کو شہر سے دُور کیا جائے۔ وہ بولے، ”اِسے وہاں واپس بھیجا جائے جہاں سے آیا ہے، ورنہ یہ ہمیں بلکہ پوری قوم کو ہلاک کر ڈالے گا۔“ کیونکہ شہر پر رب کا سخت دباؤ حاوی ہو گیا تھا۔ مہلک وبا کے باعث اُس میں خوف و ہراس کی لہر دوڑ گئی۔

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

جو مرنے سے بچا اُسے کم از کم پھوڑے نکل آئے۔ چاروں طرف لوگوں کی چیخ پکار فضا میں بلند ہوئی۔
