I Samuel 24

And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En–gedi.

جب ساؤل فلستیوں کا تعاقب کرنے سے واپس آیا تو اُسے خبر ملی کہ داؤد عین جدی کے ریگستان میں ہے۔

Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

وہ تمام اسرائیل کے 3,000 چیدہ فوجیوں کو لے کر پہاڑی بکریوں کی چٹانوں کے لئے روانہ ہوا تاکہ داؤد کو پکڑ لے۔

And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

چلتے چلتے وہ بھیڑوں کے کچھ باڑوں سے گزرنے لگے۔ وہاں ایک غار کو دیکھ کر ساؤل اندر گیا تاکہ اپنی حاجت رفع کرے۔ اتفاق سے داؤد اور اُس کے آدمی اُسی غار کے پچھلے حصے میں چھپے بیٹھے تھے۔

And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

داؤد کے آدمیوں نے آہستہ سے اُس سے کہا، ”رب نے تو آپ سے وعدہ کیا تھا، ’مَیں تیرے دشمن کو تیرے حوالے کر دوں گا، اور تُو جو جی چاہے اُس کے ساتھ کر سکے گا۔‘ اب یہ وقت آ گیا ہے!“ داؤد رینگتے رینگتے آگے ساؤل کے قریب پہنچ گیا۔ چپکے سے اُس نے ساؤل کے لباس کے کنارے کا ٹکڑا کاٹ لیا اور پھر واپس آ گیا۔

And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

لیکن جب اپنے لوگوں کے پاس پہنچا تو اُس کا ضمیر اُسے ملامت کرنے لگا۔

And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

اُس نے اپنے آدمیوں سے کہا، ”رب نہ کرے کہ مَیں اپنے آقا کے ساتھ ایسا سلوک کر کے رب کے مسح کئے ہوئے بادشاہ کو ہاتھ لگاؤں۔ کیونکہ رب نے خود اُسے مسح کر کے چن لیا ہے۔“

So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

یہ کہہ کر داؤد نے اُن کو سمجھایا اور اُنہیں ساؤل پر حملہ کرنے سے روک دیا۔ تھوڑی دیر کے بعد ساؤل غار سے نکل کر آگے چلنے لگا۔

David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

جب وہ کچھ فاصلے پر تھا تو داؤد بھی نکلا اور پکار اُٹھا، ”اے بادشاہ سلامت، اے میرے آقا!“ ساؤل نے پیچھے دیکھا تو داؤد منہ کے بل جھک کر

And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

بولا، ”جب لوگ آپ کو بتاتے ہیں کہ داؤد آپ کو نقصان پہنچانے پر تُلا ہوا ہے تو آپ کیوں دھیان دیتے ہیں؟

Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed.

آج آپ اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھ سکتے ہیں کہ یہ جھوٹ ہی جھوٹ ہے۔ غار میں آپ اللہ کی مرضی سے میرے قبضے میں آ گئے تھے۔ میرے لوگوں نے زور دیا کہ مَیں آپ کو مار دوں، لیکن مَیں نے آپ کو نہ چھیڑا۔ مَیں بولا، ’مَیں کبھی بھی بادشاہ کو نقصان نہیں پہنچاؤں گا، کیونکہ رب نے خود اُسے مسح کر کے چن لیا ہے۔‘

Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

میرے باپ، یہ دیکھیں جو میرے ہاتھ میں ہے! آپ کے لباس کا یہ ٹکڑا مَیں کاٹ سکا، اور پھر بھی مَیں نے آپ کو ہلاک نہ کیا۔ اب جان لیں کہ نہ مَیں آپ کو نقصان پہنچانے کا ارادہ رکھتا ہوں، نہ مَیں نے آپ کا گناہ کیا ہے۔ پھر بھی آپ میرا تعاقب کرتے ہوئے مجھے مار ڈالنے کے درپَے ہیں۔

The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

رب خود فیصلہ کرے کہ کس سے غلطی ہو رہی ہے، آپ سے یا مجھ سے۔ وہی آپ سے میرا بدلہ لے۔ لیکن خود مَیں کبھی آپ پر ہاتھ نہیں اُٹھاؤں گا۔

As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

قدیم قول یہی بات بیان کرتا ہے، ’بدکاروں سے بدکاری پیدا ہوتی ہے۔‘ میری نیت تو صاف ہے، اِس لئے مَیں کبھی ایسا نہیں کروں گا۔

After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

اسرائیل کا بادشاہ کس کے خلاف نکل آیا ہے؟ جس کا تعاقب آپ کر رہے ہیں اُس کی تو کوئی حیثیت نہیں۔ وہ مُردہ کُتا یا پِسّو ہی ہے۔

The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

رب ہمارا منصف ہو۔ وہی ہم دونوں کا فیصلہ کرے۔ وہ میرے معاملے پر دھیان دے، میرے حق میں بات کرے اور مجھے بےالزام ٹھہرا کر آپ کے ہاتھ سے بچائے۔“

And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

داؤد خاموش ہوا تو ساؤل نے پوچھا، ”داؤد میرے بیٹے، کیا آپ کی آواز ہے؟“ اور وہ پھوٹ پھوٹ کر رونے لگا۔

And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

اُس نے کہا، ”آپ مجھ سے زیادہ راست باز ہیں۔ آپ نے مجھ سے اچھا سلوک کیا جبکہ مَیں آپ سے بُرا سلوک کرتا رہا ہوں۔

And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

آج آپ نے اپنا میرے ساتھ اچھا سلوک ثابت کیا ہے، کیونکہ گو رب نے مجھے آپ کے حوالے کر دیا تھا توبھی آپ نے مجھے ہلاک نہ کیا۔

For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

جب کسی کا دشمن اُس کے قبضے میں آ جاتا ہے تو وہ اُسے جانے نہیں دیتا۔ لیکن آپ نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ رب آپ کو اُس مہربانی کا اجر دے جو آپ نے آج مجھ پر کی ہے۔

And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

اب مَیں جانتا ہوں کہ آپ ضرور بادشاہ بن جائیں گے، اور کہ آپ کے ذریعے اسرائیل کی بادشاہی قائم رہے گی۔

Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

چنانچہ رب کی قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ کریں کہ نہ آپ میری اولاد کو ہلاک کریں گے، نہ میرے آبائی گھرانے میں سے میرا نام مٹا دیں گے۔“

And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.

داؤد نے قَسم کھا کر ساؤل سے وعدہ کیا۔ پھر ساؤل اپنے گھر چلا گیا جبکہ داؤد نے اپنے لوگوں کے ساتھ ایک پہاڑی قلعے میں پناہ لے لی۔
