Nahum 3

Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

 Ve dig, du blodstad,      alltigenom så full av lögn och våld,  du som aldrig upphör att röva!Hes. 24,6, 9.

The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

 Hör, piskor smälla!      Hör, vagnshjul dåna!  Hästar jaga fram,      och vagnar rulla åstad.

The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

 Ryttare komma i fyrsprång;      svärden ljunga,      och spjuten blixtra.  Slagna ser man i mängd      och lik i stora hopar;  igen ände är på döda,      man stupar över döda.

Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

 Allt detta för den myckna otukt hon bedrev,  hon, den fagra och trollkunniga skökan,  som prisgav folkslag genom sin otukt  och folkstammar genom sina trolldomskonster.

Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

 Se, jag skall vända mig mot dig,  säger HERREN Sebaot;  jag skall lyfta upp ditt mantelsläp över ditt ansikte  och låta folkslag se din blygd  och konungariken din skam.Jes. 47,2 f. Jer. 13,22, 26. Hes. 16,37. Hab. 2,16.

And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

 Och jag skall kasta på dig vad styggeligt är,  jag skall låta dig bliva föraktad, ja, göra dig till ett skådespel.

And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

 Var och en som ser dig skall sky dig  och skall säga: »Nineve är ödelagt, men vem kan ömka det?»  Ja, var finner man någon som vill trösta dig?

Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?

 Är du då bättre än No-Amon,      hon som tronade vid Nilens strömmar,      omsluten av vatten --  ett havets fäste,      som hade ett hav till mur?Jer. 16,25.

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

 Etiopier i mängd      och egyptier utan ände,  putéer och libyer  voro dig till hjälp.2 Krön. 12,3. 14,9. Jer. 46,9.

Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

 Också hon måste ju      gå i landsflykt och fångenskap,  också hennes barn blevo krossade      i alla gathörn;  om hennes ädlingar      kastade man lott,  och alla hennes stormän      blevo fängslade med kedjor

Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

 Så skall ock du bliva drucken      och sjunka i vanmakt;  också du skall få leta      efter något värn mot fienden.

All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

 Alla dina fästen      likna fikonträd med brådmogen frukt:  vid minsta skakning      falla de i munnen på den som vill äta dem.

Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

 Se, ditt manskap      är hos dig såsom kvinnor;  ditt lands portar stå vidöppna      för dina fiender;  eld förtär dina bommar.Jer. 50,37. 51,30.

Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

 Hämta dig vatten      till förråd under belägringen,      förstärk dina fästen.  Stig ned i leran      och trampa i murbruket;      grip till tegelformen.

There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

 Bäst du står där, skall elden förtära dig      och svärdet utrota dig.  Ja, såsom av gräsmaskar skall du bliva uppfrätt,      om du ock själv samlar skaror så talrika som gräsmaskar,  skaror så talrika som gräshoppor.

Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.

 Om du ock har krämare      flera än himmelens stjärnor,  så vet: gräsmaskarna fälla sina vingars höljen      och flyga bort.

Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

 Ja, dina furstar äro såsom gräshoppor      och dina hövdingar såsom gräshoppssvärmar:  de stanna inom murarna,      så länge det är svalt,  men när solen kommer fram,      då fly de bort,  och sedan vet ingen      var de finnas.

Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

 Dina herdar hava slumrat in,      du Assurs konung;      dina väldige ligga i ro.  Ditt folk är förstrött      uppe på bergen,      och ingen församlar det.4 Mos. 27,17. 1 Kon. 22,17. Ps. 76,6. Jer. 23,2. 25,34.

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

 Det finnes ingen bot för din skada      oläkligt är ditt sår.  Alla som höra vad som har hänt dig      klappa i händerna över dig.  Ty över vem gick ej      din ondska beständigt?Jer. 30,12,
